ATTENTION: Tarantino fanboys. No one cares if you are black and you "didnt mind" Congrats, you dont find senseless slurs every 5 minutes problematic. "He's being historically accurate" when the movie itself is a historical retelling like many of Quentin's films. This movie is not about slavery, slavery is merely the aesthetic of the film and the only actual significant character (to Djangos arc) in the film who is a slave (Kerry Washington) is just a plot device with no character or agency of her own. She exists for the main character to romanticize. We dont have an issue with the 'N' word being said in the film. In fact this is the only film in which the director should've been using that word...The problem is the excessive use of the word. As Cyrus stated, there were other words racists used when referring to black people. The 'N' word in this film is used as an adjective. It is used in places it doesnt belong. If they had used the word more sparingly, it would have given the word more weight and made it more impactful when it was said. This would've illustrated the true harshness of the word. There is no rhyme or reason that the word should have been said over 100 times. Compare this film to '12 Years A Slave" a film that was actually about slavery. That film uses the 'N' word but its used appropriately. Its used alongside other derogatory terms that were said back then and are still used today by racists. No one cares if YOU think rapid fire slurs is cool and fun and hip. Not a single one of you defending the words use actually found it uncomfortable which is why its so easy for you to shrug it off. If it was actually about being accurate then Quentin wouldn't have used the word in his other films, films that starred predominantly WHITE casts. But he did, because he just wants to use the word to use it. He gets mad at the slightest bit of criticism and decides "you dont like that I use this slur? I'll use it thrice as much!" its childish and honestly reminds me of all the racists and tapdancing blacks in these comments. You are to blame for him having the mentality that this is ok. And for anyone who is familiar with Korey, you know good and well his stance on the 'N' word. He truly doesnt care about other people using it (a viewpoint I disagree with heavily) so for him to be annoyed. that should tell you something. Honestly if you're a non black Spill listener and you're mad that 2 black men dont like this movie that only goes to show that you view Korey and Martin as nothing but jesters and monkeys for your entertainment. Regardless if you are white or black you do not get to police the feelings and opinions of other black people. You dont get to minimize our critiques of this film and disregard them as being "triggered". A nonblack calling a black person triggered for a word thats never been directed towards them is disgusting, arrogant and pretentious. A black person calling another black person triggered just because you enjoy sitting in a theater full of whites laughing at the use of a slur directed towards your own people is laughably coonish. If you enjoy this slop, then enjoy it but keep it cute and dont speak on others.

I think the use of all the n-words was to establish that most of the white people in this movie should be seen as horrible people and to an extent Steven (Samuel L. Jackson) uses the n-word as much to show that to people of our generation. Then when Django does on his killing spree near the end Tarantino gets to condemn the horrors that white peoples ancestors committed in a sort of solidarity with black people. Got to say I think the spill guys let emotion get in the way of understanding this movie. I think Tarantino was using this genre film to condemn racism in his own style because I don't think Tarantino could even possibly make a period piece.

I had no idea y'all disliked the movie; you have some really good points. Everything from the past is translated. Deadwood ran right into that and handled it brilliantly, Tarantino ran into in and did not. People just plain didn't talk the way we do, at all, in any way, and picking one word and saying "well they said it" is never gonna fool anybody. They also said "Confound it," and "By George!" and they read entire poems out loud to each other over dinner. You can't just pick one part, either do it or admit you're not. The Germans really were very closely associated with abolitionism in the pre-war South. To the point where the Texans got so scared in 1860 that they lynched every German in the state that they could catch -- they laid siege to Fredericksburg for five years straight. I agree with the general aims of the film, that slavery is needing of revenge and that it is often worth it to offend the audience. However, doing that is all in how you do it, and it doesn't seem like it was done well here. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's obvious that Tarantino wants black people to have a parade and declare him The Good White Guy, and nobody seems to be inclining that direction here. I'll say one thing that I liked about the movie -- they make no apologies for slavery at all. There is no mercy shown to slavers, not even the women, not even the black ones, not even the cool Australian ones who ain't so bad deep down. Compare that to Inglourious Basterds, where every opportunity was taken to show that the Nazis, except for their weird fuck-up leaders, were good guys with honor, courage in the face of death, loyalty, new kids, senses of humor, fun drinking games, etc etc. In Django the entire South is rotten and must be yanked like a tooth. That's the whole point of the Tarantino cameo -- that you can be a good guy, that you can do everything right, that you can be interesting and fun and have a neat accent but if you're a participant in the slave system then all that buys you is a cool death. Now I'm curious what you thought of Jackson's big speech in Hateful Eight. Guess I'll find that one next.
