There was an old storage building right next to our house for as long as I can remember, had lush vines growing all over it, belonging to a restaurant that neighbours us. A couple of years back, they decided they'll build some apartment rooms there instead of it, since the inside was just rotting away, when they actually started demolishing it we even stumbled upon some oooold newspapers from like 80+ years ago, I hear the storage building was around 100 years old. A couple of days after it was demolished and they were clearing out the rubble, they found a bomb(think it was from a bomber plane) underneath it, bomb squad showed up and everything. It never detonated, was still active. Looking back at how the guy in the digger was basically on top of it as all the rubble was being thrown about... I'm so god damn glad it didn't budge then. Yeah.. there's a ton of stuff left from the world wars in a lot of parts of Europe. You can never know, even if it's not somewhere 'off the trail'. I live in a city.

In my town we had two unexploded bombs from ww2 that were discovered because of archeological digs. In the middle of the city. People had to evacuate for a day so the police and specialized teams could go and pick them up (it was two different bombs, two different sites and two different years, it didn't happen at the same time). But yeah, Europe was a battlefield, unexploded bomb are everywhere and I can immagine it's even worse in other countries with more recent wars.

Here in France it happens that when they dug for new constructions they still find some bombs or explosives that haven't exploded yet, mainly allies bomb. I lived right by a train station and the church was near a railroad bridge and the church was hit by an english bomb and recently they found a bomb that had failed to detonate near this railroad while doing some digging for a new building...

How did that bomb remain unnoticed for as long as it did? I mean, I know it is in the wilderness in Ukraine, a fairly young nation, but the fact that nobody ever encountered it before it detonated surprises me because of the amount of action that land has probably seen since the bomb ended up there.

I live in Poland we have many those things from ww1 and ww2, ouer unit who specialize in dealing with those have lot of experience but it's extremely difficult to locate them, they are mostly discoverd by accident when somone dig them up or some guy with mettal detector looks for old coins, and thos guys don't check camp sites.

I live in germany, and we regurarly have evacuations in our town because bombs from WW1 and especially from WW2 get discovered at like contruction sites or roadworks and they have to defuse it and stuff. its insane. i wonder if i will blow up one day by a freak accident. i just hope it will end me instantly.

With all due respect to the military, I'd say that being a journalist in battlezones is probably more dangerous solely because of the fact that journalists aren't usually trained combatants, and if there were an ambush or attack, the reporter would have very little they could do to protect themselves and the camera operator would be a sitting duck because of the size of those cameras.
