@@mrbarrylewis I think the Marilyn Monroe one might be one of those "poverty foods becoming a staple" type things. Because when I mentioned that drink to my grandfather, he wasn't weirded out by it at all. It was a staving off starvation drink that people just got used to drinking back then.

I agree! If you add sugar and vanilla you got ice cream (well technically ice milk). I think the salmonella wasn’t a huge deal in the 50’s because it was only outside the shell but it’s migrated to be inside the shell too. I think that’s what some countries can eat raw egg and not get sick,

The less air in a cereal bag, the higher % of cereal dust at the bottom by the time it makes it to the consumer. What I take issue with is when the weight of the bag and its contents will shrink unannounced, yet the price will stay the same
@rolfs2165Ай бұрын
There's a box around it! I can get crisp bags being inflated so they don't get crumbed, but cereal literally comes in a protective box.
@AltimaNEOАй бұрын
@@rolfs2165you understand everything gets shipped in a box, though? Even crisps come in a bigger box. The problem isn't the product sitting on store shelves, it's the trips from manufacturer to distributor to the grocery store, and being handled along the way. Workers aren't being particularly careful to handle the boxes like delicate foods. Not too mention they're stacked with heavy stuff on top of pallets sometimes. Not trying to justify shrinkflation, just saying why there's so much air.
@MelissaThompson432Ай бұрын
@@rolfs2165put your cereal in a zip bag so you can squeeze the air out. Then throw it around the kitchen for awhile. If you want to double-blind it, do another zip bag with air in, and an original package, unopened. Whatever the outcome is, you will definitely know for sure.

Trim, salt, pepper, roll up, wet the paper towel, microwave for ~5 minutes or until desired doneness is achieved. ymmv as every microwave is different, but it's my favorite way to do it (although wrapping in prosciutto, or wrapping in bacon and roasting are both runners up!)

It really depends on where you get your eggs to how safe they are to eat raw. Here in America (Where I am from) we don't have as many health regulations to make sure that the eggs are going to be safe without cooking them. 8 times out of 10 you can eat raw eggs here without problem if they are pretty fresh and you got them from the store. It's that roll of the dice that makes people not want to try it. In places like Japan (And probably the UK) there are even stricter regulations set up to make sure that they are safe. Not sure about other places.

Barry, Raw eggs in drinks are actually pretty common. There's quite a few recipes (mostly alcoholic drinks although there are soft drinks as well!) I know that have it in it, for example, the most popular and well-known is traditional Egg Nog but there's also the "Egg Creme", "Tom and Jerry" (though that one is served warm), "Prairie Oyster" (more of a hangover cure but someone like it as regular drink...) and "Syllabub". Done right it's not dangerous or even gross tasting as the egg is usually beaten up to fluff up and it provides a nice frothy creaminess to it while the other ingredients make sure the eggy-ness isn't too pronounced. But if you are still worried about potential food poisoning, there are ways to self-pasteurize the eggs without cooking them via Sous-vide them at certain temp for a certain amount of time. While it does change the egg texture/taste slightly, but for the peace of mind for some, it's 100% worth it. i heard about this particular technique in someone was preparing "Sukiyaki" a traditional Japanese dish where you dip grilled meat in a raw egg dip to cool it down and add a tasty creaminess to each bite, but were worried about the safety of American eggs so they used that tech to make sure it was all good. It's one of those things where at first thought it was kinda gross (the egg dipping part) and couldn't really understand what it could've added to the dish...But then I tried and pretty much instantly loved it and was completely converted.

I love homemade jelly and we used my mom‘s recipe that came out of sure gel box from years ago unbeknownst to us. The company change the amount of powder inside the packets and we were using the old recipe. We didn’t realize that they changed it until the next day, and our jelly wasn’t jelled. So my mom read the box after she dug it out the trash, and the recipe booklet that came with it and we were so mad. I had screwed with the recipe because we had a number of juices already measured out for the exact amount of the old recipe. We ended up having to add a whole another box of sugar gel, and cook the jelly again for the turn out all right. I just wish companies would quit messing with their products as in taking away the amount of that product, and still charging the same price or going up on it.
