I like chocolate chip cookies in my ham and cheese sandwich ☺ (white bread, mayo, ham, sliced cheese and chocolate chip cookies). Another awesome variation is subbing cheesy potato chips for the cookies. Oh yeah, my other fav is French fries dipped in a chocolate shake 😋

I'm rather old (70+). We had very little money growing up. We were fine, but sometimes mom had to be creative at the end of the month to provide sack lunches for five kids. One of the things she fell back on if we were out of the usual choices for sandwiches was brown sugar sandwiches: just butter (usually margarine) and brown sugar pressed together between bread slices. She did it because she didn't have much in the larder, we thought of it as a treat. Not very healthy, but yummy. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I was born in 1991 and we also grew up fairly poor. My mom was a single parent and she would also resort to sugar sandwiches if there was nothing else for me and my sister for our school lunches. I still make it from time to time to pay homage to my mom and her will to make sure we had food everyday. May she Rest In Peace

I had sugar butties when I was young. Once the gas meter was emptied, Nan would buy jam. I don't know how she managed to feed me but she was the most amazing cook. The only thing I wasn't allowed to try was tripe and onions that she made for her partner as a treat.

Some of these combos definitely sounds quite normal depending on your region. Melon and cured ham is quite common in Spain so a grape and salami is not that different. On the other hand, some people might find some British food combos, for example a chip butty, to be quite odd.

At the start of the video you mentioned a form for us to put our fav combo into. I thought to myself "I wonder if I will see my fav childhood sandwich" and you kinda showed it. When I was a kid I told people I loved Peanut Butter and Mayo sandwiches. As I got a little older (still a kid) I was at a friends house and we made some but it tasted nothing like what I made at home. I went home and talked to my mom and realized that we almost always had "Miracle Whip" and that I may have been confusing that w/ mayo. So I made it and that day learned the difference between Miracle Whip and Mayo. We used to put bananas on them too so try it again but w/ Miracle Whip. The sweet tangy Miracle Whip and PB is AMAZING!!!!!! I still love it to this day and I'm now in my 40's

A favourite snack for my sister and I when we were young was to peel a large orange and slice it into discs picking out any seeds as we cut through the flesh. The slices of orange were kept with any juices in a dining bowl and then we would cover the slices of orange in a thick layer of granulated white sugar and then consumed with gusto, finally we would mop up any remaining orange and sugar with a slice of lightly buttered white bread. Another favourite snack was medium sliced white bread, spread with salted butter then we would take and peel and core a large Apple and slice it into fairly thick pieces of apple and use the sliced apple to fill a sandwich. Eat and smile.

3:35 I think toasting the bread so the butter melts and the sugar glazes on the bread would make that even better. I have a "hack" where I have toast with those little mini powdered donuts, and I set the donuts on top of the toast so that the powdered sugar glazes the toast, while also giving the donuts a nice buttery flavor as well.

@@mrbarrylewisit was lol. Certainly better than the chicken gujouns version lol. Fun times. Rarely ever get the fountain out these days. I live in my own bungalow flat now but not far from her house. Any tips on where to get cooking trays for a 9L Quest mini oven?. (Only have a flat tray and a cooling rack that came with it). Also would be fun to see a video testing one out. Interested on your opinion. Thanks mate. Oh and found some brill gloves that makes you not burn yourself when carry or pulling stuff out the oven. They are also good for the BBQ aswell. Let me know and i'll send you the link to test them. I love them. My older sister uses them aswell. Hope you, family & the doggos have a fab weekend. 🙂👍🇬🇧 . Leon. xx

As a kid, I used to have sugar sandwiches regularly at my nans, but a literal sandwich though, bread, butter, white sugar, and another slice of buttered bread. I can't imagine having it now though like 30 years later! Another thing I used to have a lot as a kid was banana sandwiches, dipped in a bowl of bananas and custard, so the bread would get custard on it too, a few people I've mentioned that too said it was wierd. On the pancake day/crepe subject, you said you'd never heard of it savoury, I was opposite, until I met my wife 11 years ago I'd never heard of sweet pancakes, at my house we had our pancakes/crepes with gravy or a stew, even now at 35 my favourite way to have pancakes is with gravy... Though this year I did have them with biscoff spread instead

Honestly, while the chocolate bacon seemed like one of the weirder ones, I totally get it working, since it's the salted caramel effect. As for the sugar and butter on bread, I'm pretty sure you did that with Stuart and Anna back in the early days of Barshens (same with the gherkin and Oreo). That said, I reckon that it'd be even better after being grilled, and then left to cool so that you don't turn your mouth into Pompeii.

Elvis' favorite sandwich was Fried Peanut Butter and Banana. Now if you did the peanut butter, banana with the chocolate bacon, I wonder what that would taste like

When I was much younger about 53 - 55 years ago, my grandparents didn’t have much money so they would give us kids a sugar sandwich because jam was too expensive A couple of suggestions for food combinations are A cheese and jam sandwich (usually known as a miner’s piece) A tomato sauce sandwich (served with or without crisps either on or off the sandwich) And finally a sandwich of 2 half coated digestive biscuits with a lee’s snowball in between

I would skip the mayonnaise on the peanut butter, banana sandwich, and use marshmallow fluff.

I left one combo on the form. But it only let me do it once, so here’s my other fave. Slice washed strawberries and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Just before eating, toss with balsamic vinegar. It is delicious!

So I love ketchup on rice with breakfast. Great when you have bacon and eggs. Skip the mayo on the sandwich and add honey instead! For the sugar bread, toast it and add soft butter so it melts, then sprinkle cinnamon sugar on the top and dust it off. Soon much better.

Bacon goes with almost everything. Sugar sandwiches? I remember those. They were for when you weren't feeling well, or the day before the grocery trip. And we used butter instead of mayo in the banana sandwiches. Alternatives for the banana sandwich? If the fruit was slightly under-ripe, we would just use butter, banana, and a sprinkle of sugar on the soft white bread. Very bland, but tasty (as a kid).
