Try the electric juicer again but cut your oranges correctly, through the center like East to West, not North to South or from the stem to the bottom. You need to cut through the belly of the orange in order to be able to break through all the juice membranes. 😁 no length ways cuts!!

I'm so glad you did a review of that sushi maker. I got one some years ago in a box of odds and bobs from a flea market. Until just now, I had no idea what it was and for the last four years I've been using bits of it as a drying rack for cutlery. It works very well for that purpose, so I don't think I'll hunt out the rest of it and try to make sushi. But it's one of life's mysteries solved - so thank you very much.
@lynnleigha5802 жыл бұрын
Sounds like something I'd do. I remember the first time I seen an egg slicer, it was an old vintage metal one, I found in my mom's drawer and she didn't know what it was either and I was sure it was some sort of onion slicer, I brought it home to show my husband and he laughed at me, and said that it was not an onion slicer, it was an egg slicer, lol, I was so upset

Hi Barry I had to tell you about that piping pen. I worked in a retail bakery as a cake decorator for 3 years. At some point corporate decided everyone in the bakery/ deli area needed to learn to write on cakes and those exact pens were their "solution". They sent us 4 of them that never got used and sat in a drawer. We were meant to put no more than 2 ounces of icing and were only meant for writing. They were just as cheaply made.
@dorryfrost39152 жыл бұрын
I have the pen thing and thought it would help with my arthritic hands… complete waste of time due to the fact I spent more time filling the piping bag with the smallest amount of icing… still have it, hoping it’ll come in handy some day for something.

Those juicers are popular in Germany. In my family we always had freshly pressed juice in the winter, now my parents have juice everyday. When I lived at home but got up much later and everyone had breakfasted, I hardly ever made myself juice and my mother would moan at me I did not have my vitamins. The time, water and effort it took to clean the damn thing was just not worth making a glass of juice. Btw, you cut the orange the wrong way. It juices better if you cut the other way, so that the flower bit is you top or bottom you press on. And how much juice you get depends on the variety of orange. Some are better for eating, some for juicing.
@strayiggytv2 жыл бұрын
This is 100% correct. I was actually impressed by the amount of juice he got out since most of the oranges sold in grocery stores are for eating not juicing.
@hillpeople32 жыл бұрын
Yes, to juice citrus more effectively, cut along the 'equator', not 'pole to pole'.

In the netherlands as well. Had it since as long as I can remember. My mom made fresh orange juice a lot when we were kids. She still has the same one, I think its about 20 years old now and still works perfectly. There are also newer ones where you dont need to hold the orange yourself anymore, but it has a handle to hold it and push it down.
@AlmightyAphrodite2 жыл бұрын
@@strayiggytv in the netherlands we always have seperate versions at the supermarkets, but I often buy the ones that are labeled for eating, because I noticed the juice from those is sweeter than the ones for juicing.

I gotta go dig in her cabinet and see if she still has it cuz I have an urge to make sushi hearts now. 😀 Edit: little tip- put more rice in, use more then u think ull need. So that way when u press, they compact more and they will keep their shape better. Also make sure when u make ur rice, to put a tiny bit of white vinegar and white suger into it. It will help the rice become really sticky.

Hi Barry! Sushi makers can be great! One hint...if you toast the seaweed (nori) before you make the sushi, it will work better. It's not hard to do. You can find videos that show you how to do it, but basically you hold it over the stove burner briefly (maybe 5-10 seconds). It makes the seaweed more crispy, and it helps the sushi taste better and hold together better in the final product. There are so many good fillings for sushi when you make it at home, too. One of my favorites is avocado with cucumber - the two together are really delicious! Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for all of your wonderful videos.

A sharp pizza cutter may be good for thick meats but i use a plastic cutter by Joseph&Joseph that works very well too. It's just a piece of plastic with a thin rounded edge. No scratches, easy to clean and no gunk build up between the handle and the blade. But it doesn't slice as easily of course.
@epowell42112 жыл бұрын
That pepper grinder reminds me of the "Bunny ears" style grinders I got around 2000 - I had the full size and a pair of smaller ones that had magnets in them. The handles were close enough you could easily squeeze them to operate with one hand, not awkwardly far apart like those. They were great, until you needed to clean them. I don't like pizza cutters of any type: always hard to clean bits, tend to drag the cheese around instead of cutting, and dangerous in your drawer. We just use an Ulu knife - much neater cuts, easy to clean and store safely. I got the impression that the icing tool was meant for much thinner icing (like royal icing or gel glaze), and just to add decoration, not to properly ice the whole thing.

Easy way to sharpen your pizza cutting wheel, or just about any kitchen blade, take any ceramic or stoneware mug and invert it to reveal the unglazed rim and then draw the edge of the blade across the unglazed strip. With practice you will very quickly learn how to angle the two surfaces to achieve the required results. Personally I prefer to use a herb cutting “half-moon blade” to slice my pizza, it is much more controlable and less likely to skid across the platter.

I think the piping pen thing failed due to user error. The tip didn't sit properly into the hole because of the coupler you were using, Barry (aka, the white plastic collar you were using to hold the tip in the bag). If you had just put the tip in the bag on its own, I think it would've worked better. Either way, the gadget itself did seem pretty cheap and useless.
