If they’re scarred on camera for extra pay then it’s okay. If they’re still a teenager and a high school student then it’s okay. If they’re mostly on drugs and were sexually abused then it’s still an empowerment and a liberation…. Yet when it’s not on camera it’s a crime in most of the country. Everyone knew what it really took to be a Playboy bunny in the Hefner era, yet it was still part of the movement. What is the average age of consent in the most conservative states in the country? 16. Americans claim to care but don’t. Les Wexner still owns his lingerie company that traffics in a steady supply of very young and relatively cheap American models. I genuinely believe any billionaire would give away $80 million manhattan mansions for tax advice to known pedophiles. This wouldn’t have happened if she were a legal sex worker. America wants to forget about sex workers, lest they won’t be able to use and abuse them the way they so choose.
@sourgreendolly7685 Жыл бұрын
@@zachdave2994Point of clarification- most states with the age of consent at 16 have what are called Romeo and Juliet laws. They can consent within a small age range basically because there's no reason to charge an 18 year old with statutory just because of a single birthday. This also isn't uncommon in none-conservative states like my own (MA) I agree that they don't care, just addressing that misunderstanding of those laws as it's a common one.
@zachdave2994 Жыл бұрын
@@sourgreendolly7685 Point of further clarification. The age range is typically four years. Making college juniors and high-school juniors part of the same dating group. We wonder why SA is so high. In many states it’s up to the parents discretion. In some states the age of consent is lower if the child is married. Child-marriages are perfectly legal in some parts of the U.S. so long as the parents consent, then the age of consent lowers to 16. I hope this American experiment experimentation stops at some point and we can all come together on some basic human rights. Maybe then there won’t be cartels running multi-billion dollar slave-run marijuana companies in each state it’s recreationally or medically legalized. Oops. I doubt anyone in the DEA would “discourage” the attorney generals to keep it a schedule one substance so they can skim their own billions in seizures every year.

If the story about Lizzo bringing out nude performers without warning is true, she’s in the wrong. The rest could be what a difference in perception. @dismurrart6648 Жыл бұрын
It's not just sex stuff. There's a laundry list of issues here
@alliew31 Жыл бұрын
@@dismurrart6648 There are but a lot of them aren’t explicit and she could claim she didn’t mean it like that (which could or could not be truthful) She could say she never meant for anyone to feel like they couldn’t take a break or couldn’t go to therapy (“I offered to pay for it so I wouldn’t have fired her”) That’s just the one that has no way of being “ok” (ie the accusers placing their biases from the industry on the environment)
@dismurrart6648 Жыл бұрын
@alliew31 she can claim it but that doesn't make it true. If you look at everything laid out, half of that is not normal even in dance. Like I've worked productions. Not big name but still larger productions at places you might even know the names of. Sometimes dancers gain weight. That can be an issue but there's ways to handle it that are professional. Either way, she made a show where in one episode someone was rejected for being too small iirc. She has probably dozens of videos where she rants about how no one should talk to you about your size or body. That in and of itself can be used to make the case she both wants the dancers big, and believes it's wrong to interrogate someone's size. "Size discrimination" is completely legal especially in the entertainment industry but it can be used to show that she was harassing the person because her publicly espoused morals are that no one should ever talk about your size. She also put the person in a position where they felt they had to disclose mental health info and that their continued employment was tied to if they recieved treatment or not which is really illegal and honestly the part that will get her as bad as the sexual harassment. Plus making people pee themselves while working to punish them. There's so much here that is really vile and if it goes to trial, her social media is gonna be huge fodder in court
@alliew31 Жыл бұрын
@@dismurrart6648 I don’t know anything about her show, but with the dancer who peed themselves unless there was someone else who asked for a bathroom break and got fired I think it’d be easy for Lizzo to claim the dancer would have been given one (not saying she would have just that would be the defense). Even if a dancer asked for another type of break and was told to leave unless someone has gotten fired for a bathroom break “feeling” like that was the case probably isn’t substantial enough. Similar with the dancer with the binge eating issue. Yes it’s illegal, but it says that she felt that she had to do that. It would be hard to prove that she had to do that or even that the conversation was because of weight gain and not less enthusiasm during practice or something. You’d need to prove the defenses intent. The sexual parties are easier to prove because there would be financial records of planning the party which would show Lizzo wanted to have it with her dancers. There would also likely be some evidence (or lack of evidence) to show if the dancers knew what kind of party it would be. And, there is an expectation to stay at a work party even if you’re uncomfortable. Even without proof of Lizzo coercing the dancers into grabbing the performers or things from their whohas she’d already be found guilty of sexual harassment especially if there’s evidence of someone informing her that it made some of them uncomfortable (Assuming these parties happened since no evidence available yet) None of these things should happen but if the parties did she’s guilty without all the “he said, she said” that I’m sure will happen. That’s what I meant be wrong
@mellbell360 Жыл бұрын
I wish I could believe Lizzo, but the fact that more of her past employees have come out in support of the people suing her and claiming similar work experiences makes me doubt her even more. Plus she claims the peope suing her were behaving inappropriately on tour but isnt aware of her choreographer behaving inappropriately? Or doesnt think bringing her employees to a nude bar and having them eat fruit out of preformers body parts isnt inappropriate??
@StreakyBaconMan Жыл бұрын
To me the fact she accused people of trying to turn her sexuality against her and make her out to be something she's not rather than saying "I did not put employees in sexual situations without their knowledge and consent prior" is the most telling thing of all. Regarding the last story of the heat wave, it is miserable here in Kentucky. Between the heat index being in the 100s and the humidity from regular storms, it’s difficult to go outside let alone do anything. I can barely keep the inside of my duplex below 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with the AC blasting at 50 all day. I keep telling people if they aren’t afraid and ready to take action, if they aren’t preparing for the effects that are coming, they aren’t paying attention and will inevitably suffer for it. I’m a college student, major is Environmental, Sustainability, and Geographical Studies. I make no claims of expertise and I can only go off what I’m learning but the very materials I’m learning is the most up to date information of the scientific community. From what we’ve discussed in classes and read, we’re already past the preventative stage for a lot of the issues we are about to face, the best we can do is mitigate damage. However, we are at a critical point for other issues and our actions going forward will determine just how severe we allow this to get. The more I learn, the more terrified I get. And those of us, country wise, who are the most at fault for climate change we be the last to feel the full ramifications of it. It’s those in the “third world”, the exploited and impoverished nations, the war torn and unstable, the countries people look down upon, who will experience the most devastating effects first. Been watching Phil for a decade or so now and I catch almost every episode...but you shouldn't be using him as your main source, tbh. In the last 3 years (I think since the Jan 6th insurrection) he made an effort (he made a video describing this) to lean into his biases instead of trying to be balanced, and even within the past few months he's outright supported falsehoods about controversial issues on the channel that are debunkable in 30 seconds. I still watch because OVERALL the quality is good and pretty balanced, but you should be careful in using it for your main source because it definitely isn't perfect. Also, when you rely on a consciously biased source as your main news, you walk away with serious confirmation bias yourself when you read the comments section and the like.

Having it be illegal means it needs to operate in the shadows of that law. So reaching out for support, or even care, is a risk that might incriminate yourself for punishment worse than whatever your dealing with otherwise. It's why pimping and sex trafficking are so prolific. Workers get taken advantage of, because they can't turn to the government for help or safety. It also doesn't help that women are treated less than, and sex workers in general are treated sub human. The combination often leaves female sex workers being treated with disgust more often than empathy.

The Lizzo allegations are all over the place. The employee framing a comment about their performance as being about weight, then saying the time off Lizzo offered was a trap to fire her strikes me as a no-win situation for Lizzo. On the other hand, the strip club stuff is extremely outrageous for an employer to do, way over the line if proven true.
@whitneysmith944 Жыл бұрын
I can see the comments about weight gain then offering time off as a bullying tactic/trap. Yeah it’s a no-win to Lizzo because in that interpretation that isn’t the point, it’s to belittle and more of a power move. It’s the vibe of, ‘you, my employee, are gaining weight and clearly not keeping up with dancing-your job-so oh sure, TAKE time off. Others don’t need to and it’s not like this is a competitive industry, but YOU go ahead…’ - kind of thing. I’m not saying it’s true or that it happened or maybe she means it differently- but I can see how that could come about situationally in a toxic work environment. But yeah, it all looks like a total mess and the allegations ARE pretty wild, so Ill be interested to see what’s proven.

When something written sounds innocuous or even caring, but the tone and/or body language is the complete opposite. I wasn't there, I have no idea what was said or how it was said. She could've been completely true and honest about letting her get the time off she needed to deal with her issues, no strings attached. She could've been that way and just not been able to make that come across without threatening. She could've meant it in exactly the way that you're saying. I'll wait to pass judgement until it all shakes out. As the saying goes "There's three sides to every story. Yours, mine, and the truth." @@whitneysmith944 I get how it could be used maliciously, but also if you have an employee who is truly slacking in their job and you point it out, I could also see the situation being totally out of context - then they open up and you think you're doing a nice thing to give them time and space, and they throw it all back at you. My point is, I don't think it's clear that it's indicative of anything one way or the other. The other accusations carry a much heavier weight than a potentially snide remark that's a 50/50 chance of being out of context.

Microsoft has been "backdooring" OS's since the 90's. Back in the day, they denied it, but it was the worst kept secret in tech'... I was used to disabling everything automatic in the machine by the 2K's, and with WinX's dubious decision to automatically initiate downloading no matter what you (user) did, I jumped to linux... did a little distro-hopping to figure myself out with Bash and find some useful support/help... AND I haven't looked back. You CAN encrypt your own hard-drive. You CAN get reliable and decent software. You CAN even participate on Steam... AND with some 80 million tech-savvy users and volunteers munching away at code and beta-testing and pen-testing with Kali, all to build their name and get rewards and bonuses from dev's for exposing bad code, dirty compiles, and vulnerabilities, you can even largely trust all the freeware... There are some rules, but they're not difficult to deal with. AND while I HATED (even violently) how Windows so ineptly ran the updating process... consistently losing data and progress, locking me out of the machine, and otherwise genuinely f*cking me up with their BS... I'm religious about setting the time to check on updates and then downloading and installing them on my system, just because there's a cute little orange dot on a certain two-tone gray shield in the corner of my screen, right next to my clock... It's eating at me as I type, now... I know it's got updates that I should install... BUT it doesn't piss me off. It showed up yesterday, too... AND on the time I set for myself (the EASIEST habit to make, btw) I DID follow through and install them all... It's weird how that happens... BUT thankfully, the emergency (ies) that keep popping up around Microstupid are no longer any of my list of issues. ;o)

Regarding the BAMF of the week I think the big miss here is emphasizing how important it was that she de-escalated the situation and recognized how his need was hunger and then could call for additional help. I don't know that area but I grew up in an area that had a lot of hard drug users and people that were basically falling from lower middle class to deep poverty due to job loss or other financial reasons. In this area I've known an unfortunate number of kids and young teens who have had parent(s) that basically fail to feed their children. It was a fairly conservative (socially) area and most neighbors would just shun the kids instead of help them. As a result I know multiple instances where one of these extremely hungry kids have done exactly this: breaking into a neighbors house and try to steal either food or money. In one instance a young teen did something almost identical where they only had access to alcohol and after consuming that they went next door to steal beat up the neighbors over food leading them to be sent to jail for years and missing out on all of highschool. I've seen this person since who is now a working member of society but it's obvious that they will end up in the same cycle as their parents because the felony record will never escape them. tl;dr She's a BAMF, but for identifying him as a kid in need and not just escalating this situation. It seems this woman understands that a child in that state is doing so as a result of external factors. I hope he gets the help he needs and that she hasn't suffered any long term images. Would love to see them settle this and make it a teaching moment not a life ending felony moment.

"Gregg Abbott is killing people" has been true for YEARS. He's one of those people who's name will likely come up in history lessons as a sick and evil man who was for no explainable reason allowed to do anything he wanted and never get punished. The fact that people need to physically bump into a corpse to go "Oh this guy seems like a villain" would be a hilarious level of blindness if it wasn't so horribly depressing. It should never have needed this much death for the obvious to finally be noticed. I said it before and I'll say it again, anyone who can remove Gregg from power would be a hero.

Lizzo didn't respond to the allegations of her forcing employees to get into sexualized situation that they found uncomfortable. She simply stated she is free with her own sexuality. That doesn't address the situation.
@averyeml Жыл бұрын
When the Lizzo thing dropped I played armchair lawyer (note: I have zero legal expertise or knowledge) and assumed the stuff about the vague and indirect body shaming would be quickly tossed out or argued away by lawyers, but that the gross stuff like the 🍌🐱 would be a lot harder to refute. And sure enough, Lizzo’s notes app apology addresses the body shaming stuff because that’s easy to go after, but the closest she gets to talking about the sexual stuff is mentioning that she’s open with hers. If they have proof of those incidents happening, that’s an easy lawsuit. I am openly asexual in all facets of my life, including not hiding pride stickers/pins on my bags at work (I am a teacher), but I do NOT bring it in to work in any active way. Like, if you’re open in your sexuality and wanna eat a banana out of another woman’s junk, great. Do it on your own time without inviting your dancers on a seemingly work-related outing and making THEM do it. HER sexuality wasn’t being “weaponized,” what she had other people do as a result of it might be though.
