There are many months where I wouldn't have been able to make my rent without those days of working as an extra. Even with the AMPTP's 'clarification' that a scan would only be used for one project, that's then one day of work per project, which is still incredibly limited. And please know, background for union members pays roughly 200$ a day which if we worked all the time would be a decent paycheck, but we don't. I often only work a few days per season of a show or per a movie because they don't want people to see background actors repeated. If I was then limited to 1 day PER PROJECT? I would never be able to make rent. I should not have to struggle or get a different job just because I'm not a famous actor. Income inequality, shrinking upward mobility, skyrocketing costs of living, lack of basic healthcare/housing/transportation for people who work full time, and so on. @@1995pieterCapitalism is a tool. Nothing more. A tool is not inherently evil. How people choose to use the tool is what can qualify as evil. In your defense, a capitalistic system can be structured to function in an evil manner. We have seen this and regrettably experience this. But, that’s not the fault of Capitalism as a concept, that’s the fault of the implementation and execution of the concept. The same issue of implementation and execution applied to communism in the USSR along with Socialism in Venezuela. Ultimately, the problem is the people, not the concept. The only way to a better world is for everyone to stop selling each other out for personal gain. It really is that simple. As a kindergartner (I’m not joking), I recognized that the need to be successful in our society comes at a cost to another. I understood that for a system to exist, the people must allow it through their own actions and decisions. And I knew at that young age that unless the people changed, regardless of the system in place, their would always be winners who sold everyone out and losers who suffer the consequences for others. And I knew this because I listened to the words people spoke and I watched what they did. I tested people. And most importantly, I listened but I didn’t obey what I didn’t agree with without a good explanation. I was hated. But I didn’t care as I was learning how people think. But back to what started this. Capitalism is a tool, nothing more. People misuse tools to benefit themselves. A better world requires better people. If Capitalism isn’t working for you then a different tool won’t either. Learn and adapt to the system or change the people, those are your only options. Good luck.

People who support any AI use in movies/tv shows and believe studios wouldn't abuse it are insane. We already see studios doing it with deceased actors without approval or to some controversy. The same will happen to writing obviously. It's interesting to suggest but I wouldn't be surprised if actor guilds are going to have to require actors to copyright their face so it can't be used without permission. Writers are in a much, much stickier situation because you can't protect your writing. Once your script goes around Hollywood, it's fairly easy to rip it off...it's happened many many times. People are also looking at mega stars as the basis for the SAG...They're the ones who have the most influential voice and need to back the strike, but the strike IS for all the other actors who nobody knows. They're the ones who work 20 hour days, and sometimes with no credit at all. And they're the ones constantly chasing jobs. And the worst part is...if it's allowed then actors like RDJ can used as iron man forever. Which, imo, would be terrible.

Oh it absolutely has with a number of deaging effects for actors for long clips (rdj, Robert deniro, Johnny Depp, many others), for deceased actors (Chris reeves, Peter Cushing from rogue 1 is probably most notable, many others for extended clips). The flash showed off modern double screen effects for the same actor sharing the same screen. And I would argue that it would be easier and cheaper for performance /motion capture to overlay and existing actor who's every movement could be digitized from prior works vs creating an animated hulk or Thanos. I think it's an absolute myth that vfx is expensive because by design studios make it fit their budgets, not the other way around. It's not a matter of if but when. And imo. It's already here. It's only a matter of time before some avant garde shitty Director makes a movie with an actor from the 1930s and calls it "a revival of a lost performance". US Navy Sailor here, there is an effect called the Bernoulli effect which causes ships to collide if too close together. When a ship is sinking it creates a void of air beneath it, causing ship buoyancy to collapse. Had the other ship had stayed where they were or gotten any closer the ship would've rushed into the pocket of air, having lost its buoyancy, and collided with the other ship, potentially endangering both crews as well as killing anyone the ship hit (which would've been dozens). It is for this reason that the ship would've been forced to move back when the ship capsized. I understand that tensions are high and ignorant minds prevail in this case, but I would like to ask everyone to remain skeptical of any information they get while information is still fresh.

Reducing background actors to just one day is also gonna impact other departments such a crowd makeup, costume etc. these negotiations are going to have a massive impact on more than just the actors so I really appreciate what they are doing.

Our refusal to accept help caused the deaths of 600+ people, let’s blame the people who tried to help us. Makes sense to me, what’s your problem?

I think everyone is overestimating the ability of AI cloning. Even a company as big as Disney struggled to remake young Luke at the end of the Mandalorian. Printing a digital over a face of a real one makes this weird ghost mask effect and it took so much longer to render than just hiring an actor to play the part

True, but this technology is improving so fast. How long until it is easier?
@RobertoArboleda Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but remember that in the technology world, every day is the worst the technology is ever going to be. And the improvements are always exponential.

it's nice to watch phil's videos every morning and not have to put the speed on 1.25x - 1.5x because he actually talks fast enough for my brain

I read a comment on another video about the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, and they pointed out the conflicting ideologies at stake in this standoff. Filmmaking and creative writing are not inherently supposed to be formulaic or designed to maximize profits, but the industry in which they are used is structured to squeeze as much money out of their projects as possible. As soon as a new technology came along that has some serious implications for cutting production costs and reducing the size of a film's credited cast and crew, everything boiled over because it strips people of their creative autonomy and pushes for artificially-replicated stories and visual arts. The whole point of AI was to be the assistant to our work so that we all have more time for leisurely pursuits, such as the arts, and not for it to supplant people from their livelihoods and incomes. There needs to be a formal AI Commission, much like when the US began it's nuclear weapons and testing back in the 1940s. These decisions to implement and rollout a technology that is exclusively operated, monitored, maintained, and studied by private companies is a recipe for disaster, and the average person should be aware of how it's being used and where, and how its prevalence and core functions can impact our lives. Like the EU blocked the use of AI in overseeing critical infrastructure, such as transportation, energy systems and power grids, or managing government programs such as unemployment benefits, and even in the hiring processes for bureaucratic jobs. It shouldn't be up to private interest to decide where this technology has the most value for them, as it can irreparably harm our economic prospects, our privacy, and our health. Having a commission that brings citizens, industry insiders, government officials, and private interests to the same table can help set some needed boundaries to ensure we don't have this run away from us before we fully understand the capabilities and implications of AI. We're already aware of what it can do to copyright infringement and manipulating other intellectual property and how it can be deployed by the wrong hands (using AI in courts to determine innocence/guilty verdicts in civil cases, for example). Also, that last story is a "no shit, Sherlock" moment. Of COURSE the Dems take more dark money in. They have gained so much in the time since Citizens United passed, and it's why they aren't rushing to sign legislation curbing spending or preventing bribes from lobbyists. Plus, they have more registered voters than Republicans, so I would have been shocked if the fundraising numbers were reversed. It also solidifies the centrist block to prevent the party from enacting any progressive legislation, thus slowing the ability to mitigate climate change, pass debt relief for student loans, expand the social safety net, strengthen protections for housing and pensions, and clamp down on runaway medical costs and insurance. Can't really take money from oil and gas, ivy league academics, land developers, or pharmaceutical companies and then turn around and regulate those donors to the benefit of the voters.

Studios want to use AI to cut costs with writers / animation etc. But literally look at some of the biggest movies of the past year. Spiderman, Top Gun, Everything Everywhere All at once. AI cant make or write these things, top gun was all live action. It takes incredible creative collaboration. Walt Disney understood that. Whats happens when quality drops? Pendulum swings and people want something amazing. If I were studios Id be pumping resources into getting the best talent while all these other guys are gonna drop in quality.

AI can definitely write all of those. the other day i spent 2 hours using an online AI bot to write my own star wars story. the AI is advanced enough to make an entire script that would only need a director or editor to make it work
