The voices in the woods are dialogue that a couple said during a secret love affair while living in Annesburg. They went into the woods one night and the man got killed by ghosts from the revolutionary war (red coats) and the woman made it back alive but was accused of his murder and burned at the stake. There is a movie in game that you can watch at a theater about it, but I cant remember which theater. The dialogue as to what they said while watching said movie is the same as you can hear in the woods.

One of the first things I did the game when you get to move around freely. I played some 'Westworld', which means just taking off in some direction and seeing what happens. Along the way I got some fire flasks, throwing knives and dynamite sticks. Gladly emptied out that cave.

I did just that, I did it for revenge. First time I met them I was exploring, just walking around when they started appearing out of nowhere, killed me almost instantly. I went to their hideout but they ended up killing me there too. I understood I needed more and better guns to take them out so came back much later in the game. I killed every last one damn Murfree i could possibly found. Felt good.

I think the reason Roanoke Ridge is so weird, is because in the real world, an island by the name of Roanoke had over 100 people living there, but when the leader of the island made a round trip to England for supplies, he returned only to discover that the entire settlement vanished without a trace, and there are many theories that try to,explain the mystery, some even stating that some paranormal stuff happened. My guess is Rockstar made Roanoke Ridge as a reference to the real life Roanoke Island

I think my least favorite thing about Roanoke ridge is the fact that just completely out of nowhere a cougar can run out of the woods, spook you off your horse and eat you. It’s terrifying just seeing a red dot appear on your map and start running towards you not knowing what it is

Honestly, Roanoke ridge is probably my favorite place in the game. It is great for hunting (despite the murfree broods), it has your heart pumping because you dont know when a murfree will see you, you don’t get bored because there is still some people to fight *cough cough* murfrees, and the place is creepy, yet beautiful.

Roanoke is famous for being the site of the sudden and mysterious disappearance of an entire settlement in the 17th century. I know what the voices are supposed to be, and it's far more dark and depressing than you may realize. (Sorry for the super long comment.....) The settlers of the Roanoke Colony (given the nickname the Lost Colony) were some of the first few settlers in the new world when Britain first sent people over to America in the late 1500s. In fact, I think they were the absolute first attempt at Britain colonization in the new world. They had a camp on the real-life equivalent of Roanoke Ridge. (The game designers may have named it Roanoke Ridge specifically for this reason) The supplies they were originally sent to the new land with ran out about half-way through their first winter there. Cold, alone, afraid, and hungry, they began using whatever they could as food. Random animals near camp, their horses, their pets, even their recently deceased camp-mates. They were unable to send out a help letter to Great Britain, since they weren't expecting another ship to arrive until mid spring. Now, here's where it gets interesting. When the next ship did come in the spring, they went to the camp. No people were found there, no bones or other remains. The camp was there, all possessions were there, even the bones from the horses and other animals were there. Nothing was burnt down or torn apart, the people were just *gone*. In fact, If I remember correctly, one of the first few to play a detective role and attempt to learn what happened to the Lost Colony was John Smith, the "dream boat" guy featured in the Pocahontas movie. My guess is that the voices were supposed to be hinting at that Lost Colony, which was in fact near the top of what would be real-life's Roanoke Ridge. My reasoning to that is what I heard some of the voices saying. "Must be a sick calf looking for it's momma, they've been known to bawl like that..." "You shouldn't have shamed yourself, Eugine Hutton" "I need to get back home..... /i need to get back home/....." "What's that terrible noise?" "There is no noise....." And a few more things I couldn't quite make out. But that's the gist of what I heard and the back-story behind Roanoke Ridge and the Roanoke

i drove through the forest at rianoke ridge and stumbled on a dead man hanging on a tree. suddenly those creepy gang members accused me of killing the hanging man and started chasing me. killed ‘em all and started to get curious what would happen if i cut the hanging man loose so i went back to him. i didn’t see him anymore (i even cleared the whole path and the surrounding area out but there was no sign of him).

Thought I’d mention it but for those listening to the background while he was talking to the gang heard a howling/whistling. That sound is unique and indicates there’s a dead body nearby to investigate. You can tell your going the right way cause the sound will happen if your going in the right direction and get louder til you reach it. Still I think it’s really creepy hearing that at night

Yeah im pretty sure its a guaranty for it to happen when passing through,but if you go above the path were the murphry brood are standing they wont spawn. I have done this multiple times and nothing happened there(i have only taken the right side of the path to bypass the ambush)

I went searching around when I heard the voices... it wasnt too long before I found some people that had been killed in a campsite. I think it was what they were saying right before they were attacked. I believe they did the 'voices of the past' similar to the voices of the gang members heard at the different campsites after Arthur had passed away.
