Pokemon Character Study: Volkner

In today's Character Study I talk about one of the most popular Gym Leaders out there: Volkner! A lot of people might just know him as "that guy that was bored with battles", but there's actually a lot more too him than that! In this video we'll be diving into all details surrounding him and his Manga, Anime, and Game versions!

My favorite gym leader. I think he was the first sign of gamefreak trying to do more with the gym leaders beyond just being bosses that fully fleshes out in gen 5. Can't wait to challenge him in the Sinnoh remakes, whenever they happen.

Mini Update Alright, and here's the re-upload. Previous upload of this had some weird glitches and errors in it (and this one unfortunately has some too), so I tried to fix them as best as I could! There's probably a few audio errors and glitches too, as I got new recording equipment but I'm still learning how to use it ;~; As for other update-type things, I'm hoping to upload every week next month! I have a rough schedule worked out (with another Character Study, Brand New What-If Regional Video, and Top 10), and I'm really going to try and stick to it!

i didnt watch much of the anime nor read the manga (i’m more into playing the video games) but i still do remember brock just giving ash a badge even though he didn’t win the battle. its kinda funny how many battles ash has lost in the anime. he’s so weak. did he ever even become pokemon champion? and if he did, did he actually beat the elite 4 and the champion fairly?

@@saklee1777 Leagues don't work like that in the anime, mostly leagues in the anime are a tournament between trainers that beat the 8 gyms and got the badges, and the winner is crowned champion, and yes Ash did become the Alola leaugue's champion. Ash does mention there is a second tournament known as the champion league, where facing the elite 4 is necessary but it's never mentioned again.

really good video! volkner and flint have always been two of my favorite characters. i think a cyrus character study video would be very cool to see, considering he's got a lot of noticeable differences depending on his appearances, especially with the anime and dp adventures.

A character study on Catlin would be interesting since you haven't covered any elite four members yet. Not to mention that Catlin showed up in two regions (Sinnoh and Unova), so there's a lot to analyze about her character.

If/when gamefreak makes Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum remakes, I would love it if Volkner became a member of Elite 4. It would be cool to show a progression in his character for going to weaker than his best friend Flint, to being an equal. Maybe Bertha could retire, and/or Lucian could leave. Arron should stay and maybe another character could join the ranks.

With all his appearances, I want to see an in depth analysis on Looker. He first appears in the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games and has appeared in the new generations following it, Black/White, X/Y, briefly in Ruby/Sapphire, and in the (Ultra) Sun/Moon games. It's weird because he doesn't stand out as much as the characters around him, but he's played some interesting roles.

I think the excuse in diamond and pearl for volkner's team was that each of his pokemon had one electric type move as opposed to being electric type themselves, which is kinda interesting.

Volkner's technically my 3rd/2nd favorite gym leader. He's just barely beaten by Candice and Maylene, both also from Gen IV, because: A) Lucario is awesome. B) Froslass is also awesome. C) Ice type gym leader is a bubbly enthusiastic girl who is quite tough to beat without a good fire type. D) They were so adorably crushing on each other, to the point where even 8-year-old me could see it. I was shipping those two before I even knew what shipping was.

I definitely want to do a Gen 7 Character (Lusamine/Lillie/Guzma are my 3 first picks tbh), but I feel like most gen 7 characters are probably going to be in another Gen 7 game, so I sort of want to wait until they've been in more stuff before doing a study on them. That being said, I might just go all in and do a Lusamine study before that happens though (because she's by far one of my favorite Team Leaders!).
