Great vid! This process is used a lot by knife makers but I didn’t know it would work with aluminium. Turned out fantastic! Keep up the great videos.
@BuffsVintageBikes2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it actually works better on Alu than metal 👍🏼

Great video, I’ve just used this technique to put the Bianchi logo on a seat post. Car battery, jump leads, dishwasher salt and a small piece of copper pipe did the job. I used electrical tape for masking, you can pull it really tight and the water doesn’t affect it

That’s a fantastic result. I wondered if using a grease or wax to protect the bare surfaces rather than masking tape might be a solution. I read that’s how they protect areas during a re-chroming process by using a special wax. Anyhow, congratulations on your efforts. 👍🏻

Thanks Ian 👍🏼 Someone else also suggested I should try liquid wax on my next attempt 👍🏼

Hey, really cool. Didn't expect an outcome like that, very professional looking. Just an idea on how to mask the parts you don't want to etch: Apply a coat of liquid wax, will go into every crack and is easy to apply. Also easy to remove, just melt it off or peel when cold.
@BuffsVintageBikes4 жыл бұрын
I was considering something like Vaseline but liquid wax is a great idea, thanks for that 👍🏼

Great video and good description of the process. I like the solution you used. I saw a mermaid when I was out drinking with my friends so I know where to get one of the ingredients.

Great result. I might try this on a quill stem for my vintage Colnago. How do you prevent the bare metal stem from oxidising / tarnishing, now that you have removed the anodised layer?
@BuffsVintageBikes3 жыл бұрын
It takes ages to start tarnishing and when it does you can just give it a quick polish again 👍🏼

Brilliant work mate - fantastic result. Would this work on steel / other metals? Keep up the great vids, been following for a while now, always a great watch.
@BuffsVintageBikes4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 👍🏼 I can’t see why not, the process might just take a lot longer with harder material and you might need to experiment with anode materials.
I used 9v battery, didn't work very well.. maybe 12v is better??

Cool. I like this. The polishing needs work. Mother's polish is better than Autosol and should only be used when the surface is smooth, flat, and without tiny nicks which I can see here. BUT I like this!
