This video will be a surprise to many of you as I've not released a video for the better part of 2 years... But here we are again! Thank you all for your support, I apologize for the complete crap editing job here, my computer was struggling to handle the large files which made editing a nightmare. I will be using my phone for future videos as it takes 10x better video and audio. In the mean time, enjoy my blabbing away for 20 minutes about what happened to the '89 Supra project....

I really appreciate the fact that you dared to be different, stuck with the ol 7M dispite a few failures and shared your experiences. I will be ordering a oil drive shaft bearing retainer because of this. Cant wait to see the 2jz build. Cant wait to see the some of the drag builds. And interested in the wiring harness, ecu, and intake. Keep posting videos!

Sad to hear of your struggles but great of you to upload and share for the benefit of others. My 7mgte goes in for a forged rebuild in a couple of weeks and included in some of the parts coming are new oil squirter banjo fittings / check valves from Driftmotion and most importantly a needle bearing thrust auxiliary shaft retaining plate made by Technico Racing in Victoria Australia, I'm not affiliated with them but so glad I discovered their website and products, can't believe no one else has manufactured this because of the issues you speak of, there are some basic but inherent problems with the 7M but once addressed it can be a great engine as many others would attest to.

Ive owned an '89 Supra since it was a year old but life intervened and put my planned 500 hp build on hold for the last 15 years so im sad that you're giving up on the 7M. You do such a good job of explaining things and i was looking forward to a schooling on how to do it right. However the tips you did give were excellent and should help keep me out of trouble.

Taylor this is just my 2 cents of advice i had my ylinder head cryogenically treated by Ian at HTA in Campbellfield Victoria. The hardness rating went from a pretty soft 68 Brinell hardness to 105! I realise 2J’s are meant to be the go but maybe worth considering? and looking forward to more videos they are fantastic. Cheers Andrew

Hello. Glad you are Back. I am pretty much doing the same build that you did to your 7M. I was wondering what type of parts, if any do you have left over from your set up ?
@lockjawjak
@lockjawjak 3 жыл бұрын
I deleted the stock oil filter relief housing and put an NA stud on it have the filter screw strait to the block. I got an oil cooler and anelectic VDO pump which is controlled via my Haltech ECU. The pump sucks from the sump and through the filter then back into the sump and is activated when the ECU reads a set oil temperature. Its a great system as it has no effect on oil pressure and does not have high pressure oil pumped outside the engine bay where it is at risk of damage and leaks.

Good talk about the 7M, proves that we need to fix the kinks for them to still be reliable and powerful, but still not a whole lot to fix IMO. I just lost interest when you talked about the 2jz. Curious what turbo you where running and what is the ECU ?

Other than the oil shaft bearing plate, none of the other issues are atypical to the niggles you may experience from a complete engine rebuild of any engine. What standalone ems? Why no implementation of the regular engine safeties: Oil pressure & temperature Fuel pressure & temperature Coolant pressure & temperature Etc. ? These could have saved the engine twice already
@mrctuned2844
@mrctuned2844 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, and I expected niggles to which I have no problem with. I was running a Megasquirt 3 and had multiple safeties setup. It still didn't save the engine. Coolant temp readings didn't increase until much after it was too late, and my oil pressure warning went off after it was too late. You don't need to drop all oil pressure to spin a rod bearing, air getting into the system can be just as detrimental, without tripping an alarm. Alarms are great, but aren't a be all end all.
@howardhutchinson
@howardhutchinson 4 жыл бұрын
I've seen oil pressure and coolant pressures feedback save engines from catastrophic failures. Tantamount are the detection and failure response settings in the system, and the quality of the sensors. Coolant pressure is a more slow developing crisis situation. There should be lots of time for the EMS to shut the engine down if any critical state is detected.
