Got there late, struggled to find space for the tent, moaned about being too old for festivals, wanted to go to bed- then dragged down to watch this set. 26 years later still not too old for festivals. Probably one of the best festival sets I've seen. Brilliant to relive it on KZbin.

I saw them at Roskilde in '93 or '94. Best concert ever. We proceeded using the trash containers as bongos with tree trunks afterwards. Unforgettable.

My friend and I had just finished a year of studying in Dundee when we went to this multi-day mad miracle. From the US, we liked them but we didn't fully appreciate the size of the crowd that'd come out for this show. We were fully enjoying fungal fruits of our tent neighbor, and found a small patch of land behind a camera stand, to catch our breath. Fun stuff. Thanks for posting.

thank you for posting this, i was there. 15 years old, my first glastonbury and i'd just finished my GCSEs. great performance, great band.

You studied all year for GSCE's to be programmed and then The Levellers taught you more in one night. Hey hey, there's nothing that you can call free.

Was there really 300.000 people there watching this? Fuuuuuu#k
@revol148 Жыл бұрын
@COLIN TOOK although it seems like a lot in fact there was probably less than 90,000 - the crowd capacity 30 years ago was a fraction it is today
@BenjamminJamesSmallAxe10 ай бұрын
The fences were like holey cheese. No one really knows how many were there other than those who went and saw and guessed. Numbers were gurt and way beyond any ticket sales as no one really needed a ticket to get in... those were the daze.
@West4eaАй бұрын
300,000 in the festival and that was an estimate as so many got in through the fence no one really knows.
@gordy111673 жыл бұрын
Saw them in Bristol a few years back and also an ANL protest gig at Brockwell park in SE London in 91 (I think) when they ere supported by the manics incl Richie and incognito. Always felt sorry for them being avid jazz legends being sandwiched between those 2. Great day though

YE there's fuck all here that you can call free ...when they stopped Stonehenge that year it was all about money an monopolising not stones ..an Glastonbury and others has just as much blame for the death of the free festivals ..it was free once upon a time I was told ..but money talks and in wet mud we walk...I had been took to Stonehenge the year before ( as a twelve year old do what I want kid) to see hawkwind for first time ..first any band in fact .....it was a life changing experience . The year of 85 I was in kids home hoping it was going to happen again ...because it was looking doubtful it would ( on t.v anyway) ready to sneak out that window and head down again with the same gang of older hawk heads I hung with back then ....but sadly I had to see the pictures on the news and the news papers instead..the death of the dream right there ...cos I wasn't coming back this time ...like I said know it all do whatever kid ...

@TERRY CASEY mr1470 Glastonbury....death of free festivals Who's going to pay for the generators, security, first aid tent, infrastructure, electricity - all powered by love eh? Hawkwind at the over fondly remembered Stonehenge festival? - my idea of hell.
