The footage shown is truly the best of British Engineering. Dare i say that I miss the halcyon days of the diesel /diesel electric /diesel hydraulic locomotives. Wonderful and stirring images from a bygone age, (😢). I now wonder more so about people who lived through the demise /end of steam, (🤔). I love the friendly blare of horns of the HST driver.❤.(18:16/18:22). Thank you for the upload. Delboy.

Yes, you dare say that, and I wouldn't disagree - these days it's getting harder and harder to find locos of interest.

Lovely memories, grew up in Desborough and was a keen spotter late 70s and 80s. We used to bike to glendon junction to catch freights coming off the manton line, remember the signal used to be raised ages before the freight finally appeared around the curve, you could hear it's thrash coming for ages. All those summer holidays spent on East midland rovers, sadly long departed memories and childhood friends and adventures

Fantastic video, and memories. I started my train spotting days at Glendon Junction with 45108 being my first spot. Have been searching the net for video of the DH 25's brick train which used to run northbound daily at just after 3pm.

marvellous, wonderful stuff, such variety of traction. Great shots and sounds from the locomotives - awesome 56 coming off the curve into view making really light work of the loaded Redland train

It's interesting you can see the beginnings of the track rationalisation in the background and that they haven't re-instated the 3rd & 4th line that ran for a short distance north of the turnout to Corby where the signal box used to be. You can see the track has been taken out in this video

I'm on Glendon road bridge looking south at Kettering. As you're looking at that shot the two lines to the left are the slow lines, with the left(former up slow)line just made bi-directional and the adjacent former down slow now disconnected awaiting lifting. The up and down main lines are to the right, and the crossover(Kettering North Junction)between these and the bi-di slow(cutting the old down slow in two)had just been installed to replace Glendon North Junction which had been removed.

Thanks a lot. The bubble car was on Kettering to Corby shuttles. The parcel DMU's were about a bit in the late 80's and early 90's - forerunners to 325's in a way! The combos on the parcels trains were quite regular and used to get locos down to London for later parcel workings without the need for a light engine move.

Thanks a lot. Yes, a bit more like, but we are approaching the end of the Peaks running - however the final selection still to come includes some footage riding behind with some nice thrash, and the final ever passenger working for a Peak on the Midland.

AMAZING video mate...The Middy in its former glory, just how it used to be...!!! ~ so many different variations of Passenger traffic here..obviously this being the beginning of the HST era, but still with 45 's which ruled these tracks...& yet to my suprise, so many 47 's..always thought these to be quite Rare on passenger..on the Midland..?? ...Talking of 47 's..very nice indeed to see 2 of my favorite freight formations here..." 47 's on Roundie 's "...very cool indeed..love ' em !!!....., so nice to see 31 's as well ~ Jeese be god. if only the Midland was still like this..!!! :)

Really good to see this. We used to spend every summer evening we could down there or BL or Wellingborough shed in the 70's and early 80's. I can remember green 20's. My earliest memory is watching an Ivatt up the Cranford branch and there are pictures somewhere of me watching a 8f at Glendon bridge but I was 3. Main memories are early diesels, peaks and more peaks! I walk the dog there now, there's these tram things that go by now and again and the occasional steam special.

Well I was born in nearby Rushton and spent most of my life there, so i'm very familiar with Glendon. Steam finished just before I was born though, so my earliest memories are of 20's, 25's, 45's, and 47's before the HST's and then 56's and 58's arrived. There's quite a bit of footage on my channel from Glendon Junction in the late 1980's, and if you walk the dog up there now you've probably seen my Dad and his dog!

Wonderful video Darren. As Ian has commented on, the soundtrack to this video is a real delight to listen to. It's good to know that at least the 31's are still a fairly regular sight and sound to see on the MML, even if they are only on the odd test train. I have only ever tried one spot to the immediate north of Kettering and that was at Braybrooke in 2011. I have seen on google maps your spot pointing towards Kettering. Will have to try that area soon.

Great days. Used to go there in 70's and 80's on our bikes. Any train with an engine on the front always had loads of idiots hanging out the windows, one was usually me. Walked the dog there today in fact.

Thanks Hayden. Yes, we've been a bit spoilt for Class 31's on the MML lately, almost like to good old days! Locos certainly sounded better back then too, none of the yinging 66's of today. Some of these spots are still ok for shots today, and Rushton worth visiting soon as two of the bridges are being taken down and replaced anytime now.

Proper! Great peak action. Grid! Stupid question but what's the run for the Bubble cars? Class 114 Parcel Units, unusual. A couple of combos, 47/45 + 47/31 - failures or double headers? Grid! Great stuff, great shots.

45115 'Apollo', I remember her well! I've still got some footage to come from some of the final Peak runs, and the last ever Peak hauled passenger - maybe you might appear somewhere in a clip? Not sure on the NSE 47, but it 'might' have been 47582.

I enjoy watching your new stuff and noticed this in your back catalogue. Enjoyed very much. I have recently uploaded a slide show of the Midland Mainline in the 1970s which includes some shots of Kettering. The quality of the images is not so good but you might find it interesting.

Arguments For and Against that I guess, a bit like the TOC's being privatised too maybe? Difficult to say where we would be now if the railways were all in government hands - would we have so many new trains, stations, and lines opening - who can say for sure though..........?
