I did not know about the left hand set of buttons for setting letter from lower case to capital, deleting and moving L to R. The new keyboard option helps, but this really helps too

Hi David, Firstly, I'm not the developer of ETHOS. The main developer is a guy called Bertrand Songis, who was the main developer of OpenTX. At the moment, flight modes are pretty basic in ETHOS. But, the one think it has got is the option to have the trim independent for each flight mode. This could actually be done in OpenTX, and with far more flexible options than are currently available in ETHOS. But hopefully the flight modes and how trims relate will be fleshed out more in the future. With regards to OpenTX and your glider setups. Have you tried the eSoar transmitter models? I found these to be fantastic for gliders. There are quite a few modes for different setups on OpenTX (rc-soar.com/opentx/) and 2 setups currently for ETHOS (rc-soar.com/ethos/). If' you've not checked them out, I would recommend them. The setup is a little complicated. But the results are well worth the agro. ---- Same, but in uppercase for David's benefit --- HI DAVID, FIRSTLY, I'M NOT THE DEVELOPER OF ETHOS. In my 45 years of programming transmitters, I never got used to the Futaba and Hitec programming. OpenTX is for me soo natural and powerful to use. BUT only with Companion because it is easy to compare different planes and create a new plane by copying parts from older planes. Companion gives me a much better overview of all options and personal standards. Ethos without PC software like Companion is for me a no go. So my near future is still OpenTX and EdgeTX.

OPENTX is easy with the companion not so much when at the field want to make changes without a laptop be cool if companion worked on an iPad. Haven't tried EdgeTX yet I want to right now I have horus x12s I can go with a IXJT transmitter card so I can use the newer FrSky receivers for $54 or sell and buy a newer FrSky receiver.

Ok, Darren. Sell the Tandem X20HD and Ethos to me (a TX16S owner running EdgeTX with 4-in-1 module and 915mhz ELRS module). I don't want all my old DSM receivers, ACCST receivers, or ELRS receivers to stop working. I'd happily make the jump if I am able to use all of these receivers without having too much work to do in firmware, or too much to buy (and also carry with me) for extra hardware.

It’s not my place to sell anything. I can only share my thoughts and information. Its up to you if it suits your needs or not. As for the receivers. ACCST D16 receivers will work with the X20. They will need to be flashed with ACCST v2. But they will work. Your DSM and non-D16 ACCST receivers will need a multi-protocol module to work with the X20. This is just the module that’s inside the TX16S, as an external unit. They’re pretty small and would fit in the transmitter case. I believe most people use the iRangeX iRX4 Lite module. ELRS would need an external ELRS transmitter. You’re probably already using one of those with your TX16S. Depending on which transmitter you’re using now, you may still be able to use it. For example the RadioMaster Ranger had 2 backplates. One for the full size JR bay, one for the Lite JR bay. If you have a full size JR bay only transmitter. You’d either need to get a Lite JR bay ELRS transmitter or 3D print an adapter Basically, it would all work with one extra external multi protocol module. After using EdgeTX. ETHOS is much better to me. I also think that OpenTX is still better than EdgeTX. The fat finger UI is terrible. ETHOS is touch screen, but the UI is much cleaner, touch works well, and you still get to see more information on screen. It’s similar enough that the learning curve is pretty shallow. As for the HD. Personally, I’d just get the standard X20S. If you want HDZero, the VRx + X20S would be a better option. Just attach it to your goggles and enjoy. If you’re not specifically looking at HDZero, you also have more options for HD systems. One may suit you better. Quality wise, the X20 is a big step above the TX16S.

@@MrD my apologies for making it seem like a sales pitch. 😅 I'm very interested in the X20S or X20 HD. I use 915mhz ELRS, so I'd need to get an adapter if I wanted to use my JR bay module. An external 4-in-1 would be pretty simple to get as long as I can find one that is meant for a mini bay. I have 3 sets of fpv goggles right now. One is set up for Walksnail. One is set up for 2.4ghz analog. One is set up for 5.8ghz analog. I like the idea of HDZero tinywhoops, though, and being able to use my transmitter screen as an FPV display when I try to get other people into FPV could be useful. I don't like the way HDZero breaks up, and would never dedicate it to anything special. Walksnail is my favorite HD system because it has smoother breakup image quality and is capable of better range. I do fly 915mhz to avoid interference with my long-range 2.4 ghz video system and have incredible range capabilities. Can I disable the 2.4 ghz TX frequencies if I want to do that and use FRSKY 915mhz receivers? What are the options there?

@Mr.D - Falling with style - Would really help if you shared your view here. My Futaba T8FG has just gone bust and while I could get it repaired im in the market for a new radio. I'm torn between the FrSkt X18/20 or the Radiomaster TX16S MK2 with AG01 Gimbals. 1. I currently have only FASST receivers so im guessing neither f the 2 will support them 2. looking for the widest possible coverage with the 4in1 MPM 3. The tandem 900 & 2.4 connectivity seems very tempting when I'm flying Fixed wing 4. Would you consider either of these at par with Futaba Quality? I loved my T8FGand its form factor.. OPTION1: X18/20 with 2 Addon Modules (i: ELRS & ii: 4in1) OPTION2: TX16S MK2 AG01 4in1 one Addon Module (i: ELRS) Which one would you advise. How much better in quality is the X18/20

Sorry to hear about your Futaba. But to answer your questions: 1. No, neither transmitter support FASST. 2. This will give you a lot more scope. However, I did have a quick look. And I don't believe the Multi Protocol Module supports FASST. The only Futaba protocol I could see in the list was SFHSS. 3. Tandem is great for redundancy. Having both frequencies in one transmitter makes the link extremely strong. The TANDEM line-up of receivers keeps growing too. Of course, the 2.4GHz and 900Mz sides can be used individually too. Giving even more options. 4. If you are looking for quality, you won't be happy with the TX16S. A friend of mine has one, which I have used. Plus, my friend Marc Hoffmann, also has one. He has had to replace the entire case of his radio, due to poor quality materials being used. It is a great radio for the features. But it is a much cheaper build quality. With the increased price of the TX16S, it makes less sense now, than when it first came out. The X18 and X20 by comparison, are a much better build quality. I have had feedback from people on the channel and through email, who have come from Futaba. They say that their new radio is at least on par with Futaba, Though to get the best possible feel, go for the S model with the full CNC machined gimbals. There is a definite improvement with them. Between the two the X20 is a bit better in build quality. But, the X18 has nicer ergonomics. The screen on the X20 is bigger, so a bit easier to use, especially if you're getting older, like me 😆 Both radios can pretty much do the same. There are a couple of small differences, with regards to one having extra trims, and the other having an extra slider. But both perform well. Hope this helps.

Though it's quite expensive in India (nearly as much as the Futaba 14SG). Could you let me know which are the compatible 4in1 and ELRS modules?

Currently there is no ELRS support. That will come in a future firmware release. As for Multiprotocol modules. I haven’t tried aby myself. But modules that fit the lite JR bay should be ok. I’ve had an email from someone successfully using the IrangeX IRX4 lite module.

Hi Darren. Could do with some help with ethos, can you change sensor Id with x20 or do you need channel changer. Want to use two lipo sensors for twelve cell set up. Can't seem to find second sensor.

You would usually need to use a FrSky tool or LUA script (like this github.com/yaapu/change_id_frsky) to do this. I had a look on ETHOS and couldn't see anything in the device config that would configure SmartPort devices. I think that's something that could be very useful. So I'll raise a feature request.

The X20 has got a wired trainer port, so it should be possible. I have not tested this though.

I have a question. I got the x20s and it's been working great. one thing I cannot seem to figure out or find anywhere online is how to adjust the gimbal travel from 60 degrees to 45 degrees. have you tried messing with that at all?

Hi Daren. Have made huge progress into the programming of the tx. I figured out how to add channels 11 through 20 onto the redundant receiver. The problem I have is that I don't have the "original" system audio files" that you are describing in this video. Is that file available ? Thank You

Hi Frank. I’m glad you’ve made progress. I don’t think using the redundant receiver for PWM is the best idea. If they’re only for unessential functions, it will be fine. Just be aware that it will only be as good as that receiver on it’s own. Also, unless the SBUS OUT of the redundant receiver and SBUS IN of the master receiver are on the main servo plugs block; I would look at a different way to power the redundant receiver, rather than using the SBUS cable. Especially if you have servos or other components that can draw a fair bit of current on the redundant receiver. The system sound files are downloaded with the ETHOS SD card contents. So the TANDEM_SD.zip file in your case.

No idea how you’ve come to that conclusion. It’s pretty much as flexible as OpenTX, and much simpler to use. Still, each to their own.
