I went hiking around Granite Mountain near Prescott Arizona yesterday, the APack I had was "Vegetable Stew with Beef" - all the components were packed around mid-2011, so it's four and half years old and this MRE has been traveling in my vehicle for over two years AND then it went five miles in the thigh-pocket of my pants. No leakage. Besides the entree the Components were their FRH with salt water packet, osmotic raisons, plain MRE crackers, peanut butter, cinnamon & brown-sugar "pop tart", chocolate chip cookie, lemon drink powder, white spoon and wet nap. The FRH worked great, no problems with age, enough energy to also warm the pop tart after the the stew got hot. Entree tasted good - several 1 cm sized cubes of beef, identifiable whole peas, diced carrot and celery, tiny potato dices, sauce was just the right consistency and the portion was excellent - I would have liked some salt and pepper but as noted by Kiwi Dude that's not included. The lemon drink was good, tangy. The raisons (and I agree they're only semi-sweet) were still separate and very moist , from the glycerin I suppose, they do smell "funny" compared to normal fresh boxed or bagged raisons but they work to get you iron ! The well intact plain crackers were no thrill to me but after a good kneading the peanut butter was excellent, and I had thought to bring some extra Saltines so with that my interest in salt was met. I actually skipped the pop tart as I don't enjoy that flavor but I expect my wife may get to it soon, or next month - it is an MRE toaster pastry after all. The cookie was big and fat, and good. Overall very satisfying, and nearly five years old, kudos to Ameriqual !

The a pack came from Arkansas to california then to canada then to new zealand it faired pretty decent for going like 8,000 miles. Better luck with the other one. Which came from a different place on the same street. I believe both originated in Clarksville Arkansas if I remember right. The soak is from ammo can man. You can find him on ebay and amazon for those wondering.

It looks like ur tray broke pretty cleanly. Would you consider trying to fix it? I had a ceramic mug that broke once, I was able to purchase a silicone based adhesive that put it back together and made it water proof again. You could say that the tray now has a "battle scar."
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын

I'm gonna miss that tray. Do you think that adding salt water to a regular heater would make it hotter?
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan. The new tray is arriving in a couple of days, and should be a big improvement. I think putting a little salt to the water before adding to a normal U.S. FRH may increase the speed and intensity of the reaction, but the overall heat generated may be similar as it would not last as long (I'm just guessing here, would be interesting to try it).
@Hysteralix10 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would make it hotter, it would either do as Kiwi Dude said and increase the reaction speed, or it could actually impact the performance of the heater. They put a specific amount of salt into the FRH's and into the salt water provided in packs such as the ones from this video, so perhaps adding too much may overpower and dwarf the reaction. This is just an educated guess, maybe it wouldn't increase or decrease the speed at all.

Kiwidude i'm sorry your tray got destroyed, I had ordered a tray by the way and it came to me today, it's metalic and beautiful, i wanted to review it . I'm thinking about doing MRE videos and you were my inspiration for it. However i got some small questions before starting the journey. 1. What kind of camera do you use? would a good cellphone camera film as good? 2. What kind of stand for the camera do you use? it's cool that yo have the stand infront of you which makes it look like the camera is straped to your head lol. 3. which video editing program do you use and do you know if there are some free programs on the internet? Thank you for taking your time to read this.
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Yasser black It's funny how much losing (breaking) a tray can affect your Mojo. When you're so used to setting things up a certain way, something just feels odd. The new tray is only a couple of days away. Can't wait to break it in.As for your questions, I use a Panasonic Full HD camcorder, recording on to SD for the reviews, and a GoPro Hero 3 Black for any aerial stuff. A modern HD cellphone camera will work fine for quality, but you'll probably find yourself wanting a camera with optical zoom (the higher the better) and a remote. A tripod is essential to prevent your viewers getting sea-sick too.I use a cheap tripod to film the reviews, with all the legs stowed, so it sits about 1.5 feet off the table in front of me (about head height).I use Cyberlink PowerDirector 12 to edit the video. I did quite a bit of research before settling on PD and have been very happy with it. I'm starting to play around with Adobe Premiere Pro to see if it can bring anything extra to the videos (I haven't published anything using it though). As for free software, there's the built-in stuff like Windows Movie Maker, or even the editor within KZbin. If you want something really powerful, go for Lightworks, but it will take a while to learn.Best of luck. Let me know when you get a video up.

what does osmotic mean?
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
In relation to Osmotic Raisins, I found this: Osmotic raisins are dried using a sugar solution to draw the water out of the cells in the grapes by osmosis. The water in the cells flows from a lower concentration of sugar in solution inside the cells to the higher concentration of sugar in solution outside the cells.

(plays "Taps" for the tray) Sooo...how'd it happen, exactly? 'Enquiring minds, and all that ;) . Of the MRE retailers I've seen, A-Pack has to be about the chintziest. There's not really a lot in 'em, and some of the ingredients aren't even mil-spec even terms of shelf-life/packaging :( . If a real soldier had to eat these, he'd starve in no time. I do like the heater with supplied water, though. This doesn't require the soldier to dip into his precious water supply just to eat. I am kind of skeptical about the heating sleeve/pouch's performance compared to a regular MRE box. 'Not sure if it is as efficient at maintaining heat.
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Jaybird196 Nobody admitted to foul play on the tray, so it's a cold case until someone spills ;-) I was glad I got to experience both the Sure-Pak and this A-Pack meal. They both seem to battle it out on a layer beneath the likes of XMRE and Meal Kit Supply in cost. I've only tried one from each, so can't really consider it a big sample, but at this stage it's Sure-Pak taking the honours. As for the heater, I usually lean towards adding a little more than recommended, so this pouched seemed awfully small. Not too bad though.
@Jaybird19610 жыл бұрын
Kiwi Dude Personally, I suspect jealousy (dramatic music begins to play). Someone saw you with "her". Someone you know very "intimately". I'm sure it started out innocent enough. Drinks. Dinner. You began to grow close, not realizing you were drifting apart from...someone else in your life. And, she saw it, too. Uh-huh. She saw "her" everyday, silently, smugly,..mocking her. One day, she confronted you. 'Told you it was over if you didn't stop. Guilty, you tried to break it off. Things got heated. And, passions enflamed, there was a struggle. And, then, IT happened. You panicked, hid the body, knowing no one would suspect you, of all people. You came up with a cockamamie story, in case anyone came snooping around. CONFESS (points finger)!* *;)

Melt the tray with heating units
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
ExtreamPotatoGaming It's a ceramic tray though, so could be a little difficult to melt. I was thinking of dropping it from the multirotor to send it off with a bang? Either way, it's probably not the last you'll see of 'old faithful'.

Kiwi Dude just get like 25 heating units and set the tray on it and see if you can melt it and if you cant do some thing cool Also thanks for making all the great videos i really watching you eat wow that sound pretty creepy your daughter really cute

ExtreamPotatoGaming Lol.. thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. The old tray was made of the same stuff dinner plates are, so I guess with enough heat it may crack up. I don't know about melting though. The plan I have in mind for the tray is to send it off with a bang, Watch this space ;-)

The A-packs are the worst of the bunch. They have very little content, their stingy with protiens (meats) and very unfilling overall. I also hated those toaster pastries which are way too sweet and are made of High Fructose Corn Syrup. IWO these MRE are garbage in comparison to other "packs".
