In some cases the powder or 'aging' on the nuts is often a preservative added to them to help them stay hard last longer. Supposedly it also adds to the nutritional value of the nut mix. Awesome video btw keep up the great work!
@michaelpetros54298 жыл бұрын
The powder on the nut raisin mix is corn protein. It's acts as a preservative.

Great job as usual Kiwi Dude! I've always wondered why they put that "Table Syrup" in there, when there really doesn't seem to be anything obvious to put it on! It can certainly enhance both the Muffin Top and the Sausage, but they're both quite sweet already. This is definitely one for the soldier with a sweet-tooth! Speaking of which, what an unfortunate one for The Boss to miss. i was really looking forward to her take on the sweetness of this one! Oh well.

Kiwi Dude!! A video again!!! I've had this particular MRE (Though I cannot remember if it came with crackers and cheese). When I ate it I was instructed by the individual next to me (contractor) that crumbling up the maple muffin top a bit into the bag with the sausage patty and then drenching both with the syrup was the way to go - and I remember agreeing with delight. It was about 5 in the afternoon, but we were happy to have a flavorful meal (warmed by the heat of our vehicle's engine compartment).

Looking at the standard US MRE heater, I think that it can be torn into sections, so that if you have a main, side, and coffee, you can heat them all effectively, in stead of having the food insulate the coffee and such.
@KuroiNoOu8 жыл бұрын
I think the syrup is for the patty; at least in my family, we often either put syrup over pork links or dip the links in the syrup left on the plate after we eat the pancakes/waffles. But my parents are from Michigan and we were raised in Virginia, so it might be regional.

iron, magnesium, and salt combine with water and its a chemical reaction to make the heat. Similar to Thermite where the reaction is self oxygenating, the water vapor keeps the reaction going until it is all evaporated away.

Thanks Kiwi Dude...that would have been a nice breakfast in the field. Would you say that FRH was as active as the Japanese FRH ? It was neat to see the Boss out takes haha. I am sure Sgt Poshtosh got a good laugh. I don't know if you noticed but after a long hiatus we got a new MRE review from No East Too Far a few weeks ago. You know he is studying in Australia now. I believe he said he did not have a source there for more MRE to do reviews of. Do you ever get over to Australia to visit? It would be neat to see a joint video. Perhaps you could help him find some MRE to make new videos with.
@KiwiDudeMRE9 жыл бұрын
+Bill23799 I would say the MealSpec heater is very close in performance to the Japanese heater, though the latter seemed to have a more sustained reaction, with an entertaining second wind. Unfortunately, I don't get across to Aussie much at all. The last time I was there was around 2001. It's 3 hours by plane and airfares are pretty cheap, but I just haven't had much of a reason to hop over the ditch. I'll have to check in with No East Too Far :-)

do heater packs kinda work like a steamer? and does that ever kind of effect the taste of certain meals?
@Blin2409 жыл бұрын
Yea the heater packs pretty much work as a hearing system to get some meals warm but I rarely see any difference in taste when I use them.
@KiwiDudeMRE9 жыл бұрын
+TheHumpjbear The bigger heaters seem to use the steam effect more so than the U.S. MRE heaters, which typically just use the water to create the reaction within the pads. Everything you put in those heaters is generally sealed in a bag/pouch/can, so I've never noticed any taste issues.
