Good to see this back up. A really well made mini-doc. Great access, well edited, good unseen info. A great nostalgia trip back to something that's not around anymore.

I went to Chessington recently and it's so saddening to ride the Gruffalo knowing what the ride used to be. This magical experience which just captured the essence of fun, atmosphere and originality. The smells, music and visuals will always be greatly missed. I think it would've been a smart move by Chessington if instead of the Gruffalo, they opted (and invested money) for re-imaging Prof. Burp's factory for a new generation with a grand opening of his new Bubbleworks with upgraded technology, animatronics and bringing the strobe effect for the grand finale. The magical fun experience the Bubbleworks brought to Chessington has been forever lost.

I think it was rumored to become Hotel Transylvania instead of the Gruffalo (Which would've been Awesome IMO) At least the fountains are still there.

I completely agree. I remember when it became sponsored by Imperial Leather and had their logo plastered all over the place which completely took away the magic.

I’ve watched all the re-uploaded documentaries this evening and, though they are all amazing, this one may be my favourite. There was just so much joy and magic in this dark ride, and so much effort put into it. Sometimes I forget how truly wonderful this ride was but it was just something so special that I don’t think will ever be bettered, at least in this country. I loved seeing all of Andrew Offiler’s sketches and the close-ups of the Professor Burp animatronics. Just amazing. Wish I could go back to my childhood and ride it again!

Another great ride at Chessington. Went on this at least 15 times on many occasions. The funky fart music and strobe part with the fountains at the end... and unforgettably the ride controller saying "KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF THE WATER"

It's not just bubble works, the whole 90s/ early 2000s Chessington was dripping in magic - dragon falls, the original vamp, the whole wild west area, terror tomb, rameses revenge it just captured something so special X

While I was sad to see Bubbleworks going especially when I went to Chessington to go on it the day before it was closed. To be honest, I was more devastated by the re-theme of Bubbleworks back in 2006. Going on the original Professor Burp's Bubbleworks in 2004 and 2005 changed my life. Especially when you get to the Fountains Finale sequence, it felt magical as was listening to the incredible ride music by Graham Smart. I was scared shitless by that Pressure Room scene. The ride was pure cinematic magic. When I got to ride the Imperial Leather version, it was like watching everything I loved about Bubbleworks completely crumbing away each second I was actually in tears. Coasterkingdom sums it up perfectly. "Go to *Universal Studios*, and you can ride the movies. Go to Chessington World of Adventures, and you can ride the adverts." Back to The Gruffalo ride, before it opened I felt it would had been better if The Gruffalo was in a different area of the park and planned as it's own land. However, when POV's of it came out, my god, the people who worked on it have actually done a bloody good job for what they were given with. When I finally got to ride it I came out of the ride smiling. The theming was extremely well done and it respected the material damn well. Also the fountains were still here. ❤️ While it can't never in a million years replace my favourite dark ride of all time Professor Burp's Bubbleworks, the team who worked on it did a great job and I will greatly take it over the Imperial Leather Sponsorship Monstrosity anyday of the week.

i dont really have many memories of this ride unfortunately, but friends of mine did. from what i heard, despite its success, the ride often broke down (which is probably what resulted in its eventual closure). i remember going on a school trip to chessington some time around when this video was made and although we never got a chance to ride it ourselves (as it broke down while we were standing in line lol), i vividly remember the queue to the ride itself being SUPER long people adored this ride, and for good reason. seeing how much hard work and passion went into this project is incredible and even watching videos of the ride online, you really get a feel of the kind of magical atmosphere it had. i only wish id had a chance to experience it myself

This and terror tomb were my favorite rides as a kid. I saw a video of the Imperial Leather theme burps got turned into and was very dissappointed. We ended up going to Chessington a year or so after I made that discovery. We rode on the Laser Tomb. It was shit, bring back old Terror Tomb. Then when we went to where Burps was, my sister wanted to go on it, thinking it was still classic Burp but I didn't want to go on it, as I told my family about the update and that put them off.

I remember going to this ride in the early days, the smells were initially amazing but as the years went by the smells got weaker and weaker... Budget cuts and penny pinching no doubt. Huge shame Chessington fell down towards the end of 90's. Dont think Merlin know what to do with it still

I'll always have fond memories of bubbleworks if only because it's the only ride I've ever had break down while I was riding. sadly my raft wasn't anywhere interesting, just in a dark bit.

British Theme Park Archive it did actually totally break down! we were halfway up the lift when it stopped and ended up chatting to the other people we could see bunch up behind us until a staff member came to lead us out an emergency exit! it took almost until staff appearing to realise something had actually gone wrong though, since someone stuck at the bottom mentioned short pauses there on their previous rides.

looking for a chessington ride i went on in the 1990s it was dark inside. kinda like an old castle. with a dummy sitting behind a window. it was like about an evil mannequin/dummy who like goes to hell or something and at the end there is like skeletons playing guitars like a band. the whole ride was really dark inside. i cant remember if you travel through a train or if you walk. i think a train goes through it. i think there was like a giant monster pig that the skeletons were standing on. thank you!
