Francis lost a golden opportunity for some trolling. Picture this: "Aaaand we're back, with some more ONI. And today, today we are going to build a rocket silo, right here." Silo built, and credits rolled.

When you started talking about nosh beans I got exited. Yeah I agree, why are the beans so expensive? Beans are cool and very ONI.

Don't take me back to the fertilizer synth meta days. We only got 2 cool steam vents, that was it. Back when the roof was Neutronium.

I kept a boatload of gulp fish in my liquid mercury tank. Was really easy, truth be told. Made Fish Tacos very practical... bottleneck for much of my run was water for sleet wheat.

pemmican never goes off at room temp/atmo. easily the best added food since you can just chuck it in an unpowered fridge and stockpile forever

10:59 Pemmican. Why do I feel like eating my meals at a table all of a sudden? 16:02 "Why don't I just flood the sommnium synthesizer?" So that's how psychic emanators are made. 21:14 Slaughter animals. Totally not muffalo noises. 21:45 17 invisible psycasters are constantly casting Waterskip into the boiler. 25:05 "Crisps. Chips." To go with the scone-sconces? 32:22 "I can't remember the last time I used fertilizer or if I ever did." because the crops on this colony are fertilized by the blood of our enemies. 37:57 "I, uh, hope you have a good weekend and good luck!"

I had a few fertilizer powered bases in the super early game. It was a good way to make more power than you could ever use back then

Don't forget to mop up the mercury next to your silo - it keeps touching the superheated bunker tiles and is spreading that heat into the resources you're getting. Also, instead of having the two rocket output lines merge, you can probably give them separate dropoffs to make unloading a bit faster, they seem to be getting blocked at the merge.

Fertilizer is worth using, it saves an enormous amount of the normal plant resource cost per unit of food across all food types.

It's funny you should rant about nosh beans. I'm doing my first spicy tofu playthrough, just because, and it's crazy. It's not the nosh beans or the pincha pepperplants that are the headache. It's the fact that you also have to ranch pips and dreckos to make it all work. As I switch away from hatches I actually have to do more ranching to make the dirt and phosphorite needed, and that's in addition to the new farms and the extra cook to run the microbe musher. The labor requirements go up dramatically. For a 100% sustainable colony it would have been far easier to go with a regolith melter to feed the hatches.

You could make extra ceramic by cooking up some clay at about 930°C. Those rocket exhausts might do the trick ;)

I had a thought: maybe it would be cool if objects with space exposure gradually had heat added to them at day and removed at night, to simulate sunlight and black body radiation

I wonder if the steam room is getting too cold at 22:35 and the steam generator is not running, giving you that steam pressure.

Why do insulated pipes in vacuum? Isnt it counterproductive? Regular pipes have way less thermal capacity, so they will chill faster, and, since they are in vacuum, they will stay cold forever. Isnt it?
@buttons3947

Good question tbh
@BrownsheepBF
@BrownsheepBF 10 сағат бұрын
AFAIK, it's less about the thermal capacity and more about the transfer rate. Insulated pipes exchange barely any heat with the contents which keeps the oxygen liquified in the pipes. If you used regular pipes, the heat transfer would cause the oxygen to turn to a gas again which could damage the pipes. In Francis' setup it would lead to CONSTANT repairs.

After watching for a bit it seems the steam is generated from the rocket @Felinarc
@Felinaro
@Felinaro 10 сағат бұрын
@@BrownsheepBF it would be necessary to pre-chill pipes by limiting the flow by liquid valve, but after they will be chilled (and that would be quite fast), they will stay that way. Forever and ever. But insulated pipes take 4 times more resources to build, and, since they exchange barely any heat, they will draw the coldness from fluid for a long-long time, until they cool themselves. P.S.: insulated pipes in the rocket silo area are perfectly reasonable, since they are out of vacuum on rocket launches.
@deredware9442
@deredware9442 9 сағат бұрын
If you can guarantee that it will always be in a vacuum, radiant pipes that you pre-chill/heat with 1kg packets are the most resource efficient imo. They reach the appropriate temperature faster. I've done this with magma with much success before, but you have to make absolutely sure it will never not be in vacuum.
