Your commitment to overkill never ceases to amaze me. Thank you for the whole series-it was amazing from beginning to end.

so we've reached this games natural conclusion. Watching this series got me to start playing again, but I too never finished my dyson sphere. My laptop just couldn't take it. It was fun while it lasted though...

Thanks for finishing off the playthrough. Good to have some diversity on the games played. Look forward to a factorio pyanadons run! (Maybe just a live stream vs clean edits...)

I don't know what has been under more stress in this playthrough. Francis' brain trying to come up with better black boxes or Francis' computer.

I absolutely loved this series, your way of always pushing just one step further and then a few more is exactly why I have a blast watching anything you make. Thank you for bringing this one to the end, no literally the end of your computer xD. I tip my hat to you Francis "Overkill" John.

Awesome, thank you for seeing it through almost 250 hours is a crazy amount of time! Sad the Dyson sphere didn't get finished, but then again not much point at the current stage of the game. Would love a "lessons learned"/"what i would do differently" video! Also thank you for sharing the save file, it looks like my own save with some work and finishing the dyson sphere has a bit of stretch left!. At 1:1 setting I'm getting 18 fps/ups on average (without the dyson sphere showing), that being said I only get 4 UPS extra going 1:5. Would be interesting to see what newer CPU's would be able to do but looks like just running the game skews tot he same. Got a game crash on deleting the sphere though :D

Lovely run, thank you for going so far with it.
@mikeyvee128Ай бұрын
Love your "black boxes", but I would have a few "stand alones". One being carbon nanotubes from stalagmite. Much less demand on warpers and transport ships, if you refining it on the water world. It's a 3 to 1, meaning 3 ships of ore for 1 ship of nanotubes. I'm gaining back much UPS modifying my current game this way. Also, solar panels are a hugh hit on UPS.
@vulkandrache1928Ай бұрын
I did the same. Every build gets put on planet that allow the most used ressource to be pulled localy. And once i had a consistent production of AMFuel i tore down anything but geothermal plants. At the moment i can make 15SPM while staying at 12/60 FPS/UPS.
@Lodestone8Ай бұрын
Also for some things like copper it's best to refine on site since there's only use for it in plates and it can save some room on science planets and the like.

Congrats on finish this playthrough, it was quite interesting to watch. To be honest, end game felt a little too calm for me but it seems like you liked it so that's no big deal. Can't wait to see what your next game will be!
@BWSC81Ай бұрын
Will be interesting to see a future run of this game with an eye on the performance panel from day 0, and the improved resource management (assume we ever get there in 3 years). I suspect the science rate limits could be increased now that Francis has a better understanding of these tools. So often I find paying attention at the start helps me understand the fundamentals which aids in scaling long term.
@BWSC81Ай бұрын
Who know, maybe a max difficulty run would also help get this before 3 years out :P (Though I think it would mostly hamper early game, eventually one gets OP. Bots can't upgrade, though maybe they should add that feature.)
@BWSC81Ай бұрын
Duno if it would be worth it but it might be worth building the "what I would have done" version of the science while it's still fresh. Then save the blueprint for next time.
@williamhuhn9221Ай бұрын
FJ, you never really upgraded your Logistics Carrier Engine level: saw it was only at Level 15. Your Drones and Vessels all travel so SLOWLY! So much of your throughput problems would be solved with some faster ships!
@graspienjo2850Ай бұрын
Always good to see people playing DSP. Thank you :) Techtonica next? Would love to see you play that
@MerogieАй бұрын
Thanks Francis, excellent run! I agree that black box design, particularly those that fit in the pizza slice exactly are the biggest value gain to scalability. Im wondering if you will create some ready blueprints and share them on DSB? Particularly those that are super robust (ie anti-failure) and multi function. Would love to see you take a stab at optimizing your black box designs for maximum compression and functionality whilst maintaining proper "legal" beltwork. I think a few blackbox designs aside from the fuelrods one which might be good to consider include proliferated graviton lens for people who use loads for power production. And also probably a black box mall from raw, for either buildings, ammunition or both. Thanks again for the excellent run and inspirations! P.s. playing this game made me feel like playing starsector for some reason, had an excellent run of that too using invictus capital, eradicators and your LP Brawler meta! Haha
@sovietsupporter3828Ай бұрын
Wouldn't it be 600 billion? as 60 million x10000 is 600 billion (that works out to 30,000 hours btw). I assume you did 6000000x0.011? that calcuates at 1.1% loss as its a percent, you should multiply by 0.00011 to get 0.011%
@davidebdon6891Ай бұрын
Was about to come in and make the same-ish comment. Greatly enjoyed the video series! Looking forward to the next craziness.
@DroCaMk3Ай бұрын
You're right, but you have one 0 too many in your final multiplier. It should be 0.01 * 0.011 = 0.00011. (or add 2 more zeroes to the percentage value)
@sovietsupporter3828Ай бұрын
@DroCaMk3 just checked again, thanks you werer correct
@TheMalT75Ай бұрын
Thank you, that really has been a ton of fun! Maybe when a couple of update have changed the game again, you revisit? From the announcement of the upcoming revamping of space combat, it looks like Dyson Sphere Program will integrate elements of Cosmoteer/Avorion (or Space Engineers, wink, wink!)... I have integrated proliferate and antimatter fuel rod production in my current research pizza slice (cramming 900 per minute white cubes into it, but importing nanotubes and particle containers instead of stalagmite and unipolar magnets). Not 100% happy: sometimes proliferate does not reach the furthest sprayer, so that blackbox "only" outputs 810 per minute on average and needs a little bit of tweeking.

In your overview episode you should try dropping into the middle of a dark fog base and clearing it out, then speed up the footage to see what things would look like at the base 60ups if the game weren't struggling.
@YardiffАй бұрын
I grabbed your save and loaded it, very interesting. For me it has a consistent 16/32 fps/ups while orbiting Big Blue One (from game load). Looking at the sphere, or the planet, or off elsewhere. My system is an Intel I9-14900 with 64GB RAM, the display adapter is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (16GB RAM).

DSP takes you back to old-school gaming, where you outplay the game until it breaks. Except then, the games got faster and faster; now, DSP just gets slower and slower until it's unplayable.

In game universe, producing power was the whole point if you rememeber. So making the dyson sphere so big was not overkill as your job was to produce as much power as possible 😉 Although yeah, your computer was seriously struggling there. I bet it will be relieved not to have to play that game any more 😛

There are 2 mods called "Darkfog unleashed" and "They come from the Void". The first lets you set the initial enemy stats much higher and the second adds a few things like levelup skillpoints. If you ever get back to this game i would like to see how you handle the first few hours of ubermax difficulty settings. The first time i tried it took me almost 10 hours just to clear the starting planet.
