I love eggnog but it has to be homemade. I also make the non alcoholic version for my grandchildren. I loved how happy Princess H looked when she was given the vanilla eggnog. That was so cute. She is getting so big. It seems like only a few months since you showed her ultrasound picture. Time flies and you have to spend as much time as possible with your children because if you blink you will miss it. Merry Christmas Family H.

@@markhamstra1083 I’m not. And yes, Capt Morgan’s isn’t top shelf but you’re pouring it into a bowl of eggs, sugar etc., which you would never do with a top shelf of anything. Yup. Egg nog is a staple in the U.S. for Christmas. You can make your own, you can buy the nog in milk cartons in the grocery store around Christmas and add or not add your own booze, or you can buy it pre-made with the alcohol in bottles, in the liquor store. Rich, sweet, and with a kick. Very indulgent. Great stuff. I prefer mine with mostly or all dark, spiced rum, but that's a persona l choice.

We use fresh nutmeg on top of our nog at Christmas. We have a little wooden eggnog grinder, for the purpose, and the little nut (yes it is a nut) goes inside. Then when you serve it up you grind it fresh on top of each nog. It smells heavenly. We have a family recipe we've made for years and it's made 2 weeks ahead of time and left to stand, as it improves the flavor. We put whiskey as well into ours. We do, sometimes, buy storebought whish is NOT alcohol, (you're meant to just add what you want) but we only use that for say making latte or flavor our coffee. I had a feeling it was originally English as I live in New England and we have many things that I know came over with our ancestors back in the 1600's. We even make plum pudding in our house for Christmas which most Americans probably don't We also have brown bread as well (which is a steamed pudding/bread) that came over with the puritans. I live in Massachusetts, the state you have trouble pronouncing haha.

In a large bowl, beat milk and pudding mix on low speed for two minutes. 2. Beat in the sugar, nutmeg, vanilla and salt. 3. In a different bowl, beat cream until thickened (about 3 minutes). Stir the cream into the pudding mixture. 4. Refrigerate until serving. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg, if desired.

Before the industrial revolution, eggnog was always prepared with alcohol to "cook" the raw eggs, and make it safe to consume. Also, only really fancy recipes call for mixing the alcohol before it is complete. It changes the texture/consistency a little. But the flavor will be the same if you simply add it at the end. Plus, making it without the alcohol means it's safe for children, and the adults can tweak the amounts of liqueur to their own, personal preference.

I make this mostly from scratch basically like your recipe you used. We have a local Dairy company that makes a really good store bought version for a quick treat. I personally make the Alcoholic version for the adults but I always have to make some regular for the kids also. You can experiment with different alcohols and one of my favorites is Jamesons and Baileys.

Bravo to you for making homemade eggnog, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic! I never had the alcoholic version before always has some store brand version of it. Since then, we moved and I had this coworker telling me about the dairy she goes to for her chocolate milk when she's in the mood for it, then I learned they also sell eggnog during the holidays so that is where we go to now. We go to BROGUIERE'S DAIRY locally in Montebello, CA. We buy their eggnog during the holiday season, and they sell it in glass bottles which makes it taste so good. (Non-alcoholic) During the year we can get regular milk and chocolate milk from them too and sold in glass bottles. Some supermarkets here will sell the BROGUIERE'S bottles, too, but those sell out quickly because it is in a supermarket. i enjoyed watching this video! Enjoy your holidays! Peace. ☮

I tried it as a young man with rum and didn't particularly like it. Fast-forward 20 years and had some non-alcoholic eggnog, milk, and vanilla ice cream and I've been hooked on eggnog ever since. Every maker of store bought eggnog makes it differently so it takes a little trial and error to find the one that perfectly suits your taste buds.

We have Eggnog each year at Christmas. Have made, but usually buy store made at Christmas. We don't put alcohol in whole pitcher, everyone puts some in their glass. It's a seasonal drink. If you wanted it after Christmas, you'd have to make your own. A friend makes it serveal times a year, keeps in refrigerate and has a glass every now and then. Enjoy your video's. Have a Merry Christmas and that the new year brings you what you need

I love eggnog, I do not put alcohol in it but when you make it, you always put it in last because you cook the alcohol out otherwise. you heat up milk un whipped cream, cinnamon stick nutmeg for a minute you slowly add it to your sugar and egg mix so it does not scramble the egg occurred. You put it back on the stove once everything‘s mixed continuously stir until it thickens and has a deep yellow color served hot or cold.

We are not drinkers in our home, so for us it is always non-alcohol eggnog. I don't mind purchasing it already made from the supermarket....they are generally all the same. I also ALWAYS sprinkle nutmeg on top of mine and as far as vanilla, it comes with vanilla already added, so yes and yes! Our family traditional drink however is wassail. We again make it non-alcohol, but use 1 gal of apple cider, 1 size 6 can of pineapple juice, 1 small can frozen concentrated OJ and one small can frozen concentrate lemonade. We mix all these together in a crock pot, add several sticks of cinnamon a sprinkle of allspice and about 15 whole cloves. We cook our wassail all day long until it reduced by at least 25%.....the longer you cook it the more concentrated it becomes and the tastier it is! I have taken jars around to my neighbors for Christmas and they all said not only was it amazing, but they used it in several of their alcoholic holiday drinks! You cannot beat the smell of wassail that has been cooking all day long! It is Christmas to the nose.

I personally find that non-alcoholic eggnog is rather cloyingly sweet, and that adding a moderate amount of spiced rum or whiskey makes it far more drinkable and complex without being too powerfully booze.

My mother was Italian raised in Manchester and came to Texas and every Christmas eve after midnight mass , we'd come home and parents would pour us kids a small glass of egg nog with a touch of brandy and nutmeg. Yum! But, i found an egg nog made with almond milk and the cinnamon and nutmeg in it. The brand is SoDelicious. It's thick and creamy like regular egg nog. Merry Christmas! 🎄

Good job Mrs. H! You are a wonderful cook. I have always bought eggnog in the supermarkets. They always have a few different one's in the dairy section, before Christmas(they seem to all be equally good). I had a relative make his from scratch when I was a young boy, and it was very good, probably like yours. (Bourbon, or rum, are my alcohols for eggnog.) I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas! ❤

In my area Hartzler is the best (IMHO) eggnog. It's made by the Hartzler Dairy farm. Thick and creamy it makes the large corporate versions seem weak & bland by comparison. Where I live I can only get it seasonally. It's non-alcoholic so you can add your favorite liquor to it as desired.

Eggnog done right is great. My Step Father had an old English recipe that I’ve yet to see anyone top. It was the Only eggnog I would drink. It was very strong and delicious. When the weather turns cold and the heat comes on indoors, my throat gets so dry that maybe once or twice during the season of joy and merriment I pick up a quart of the non-alky nog. The cool, custardy smoothness bestows gentle relief. I always hope the store will have that assertively-cinnamon-flavored "Fireball"-branded nog, but I found none this year. 🔥 I have a simple Christmas Eve dinner, like stew in a sourdough bowl or chili and cornbread, salad with homemade lemon mustard herb vinaigrette (this year it was tiny tomatoes and steamed-and-chilled green beans atop baby greens - depends what the produce market has on clearance), with a traditional dessert (mincmeat pie or gingerbread cake), and lots of vanilla caramel black tea. Meanwhile a DVD of Bing Crosby's final Christmas special plays. Although I do not deck much hall, I DO leave my little tabletop Christmas tree up and decorated all year. 🎄 And Mr. H: you don't HAVE to have Marty Moose mugs if you want to celebrate a Christmas Vacation movie nog-sipping, but you DO have to wear a black turtleneck dickey under a white sweater that's thin enough and tight enough for the dickey flaps to show through. 😆
