It's been a couple of years since my last Ito video, so it seemed about time to make an update, and I made sure to go all out for this one. Once again we're covering every Ito release we have in English, but then more excitingly (to me, at least) we're going to cover all of his work not yet released in English, including exactly what Story Collection hardcovers remain and what they will contain. UPDATE: STITCHES has been announced. This book by Hirokatsu Kihara with illustrations by Ito contains nine prose chapters about true unsolved cases, and the tenth and final chapter is presented as a manga with full art from Junji Ito. This book will be released in Spring of 2024.

UGH thank you for explaining Shiver! It was a book I skipped because I've read some of their stories already. Was too confused about the whole release, but now I realize it's a must have lol. Here in Poland we've got so far entire japanese masterpiece collection translated, including Tomie split into two volumes. Additionally Yon&Mu, Remina, Black Paradox, Gyo and Uzumaki. I am curious as to when we'll get, if at all, Sensor, Liminal Zone and Fragments of horror, though.

Sure I made it this far, the whole video into the end. We thank you so so much for such q great video. Here in Brazil Ito’s work is a bit divided among three publishers, but Pipoca & Nanquim is like his house and does the best work. They also are responsible for the Junji Ito Collection as it was released in Japan. But, as they decided for TPB with dust jacket, I still get the hardcover editions from Viz. I hope Viz collects all Ito’s work in these hardcover volumes. I really want to read his version for Snow White. Thanks from the ♥️ !

In 2020 with the 'Plague', I decided to try something new, so started reading Manga & watching Anime. I started with Berserk & Uzumaki, so the best lol XD I've now read several of Ito's works, & have just ordered Frankenstein and looking forward to working my way through the rest! We are a bit behind schedule in the UK (Tombs is coming out this week on the 11th May, and the Soichi collection is not scheduled for release until August), but it has been good to know what is remaining. So far in Germany we have 7 of Itos works released here as HC (Uzumaki, Gyo, Shiver, Tomie, Lovesickness, Sensor and Frankenstein) with Remina releasing at the end of this month. What's confirmed is that we're also getting Tombs (Tomb Town will be the official name here), Fragments of Horror and Groaning Drain. They're all released/being released by the german publisher Carlsen. Me personally I really hope that we get Deserter, the Soichi Collection and Cat Diaries

Uzumaki first appeared in Pulp, the seinen-ish anthology put out by Viz. Later many collected works that were most popular in the anthologies including Pulp, Manga Vizion, and Animerica Extra were collected as trade paperback volumes. This is very similar to Japan where popular series in anthologies such as Shonen Jump are later collected into volumes. So the original Uzumaki trades were full US comic book size.

The graphic novels weren’t the trim of a western comic; they were the same page trim as the current hardcover. The pulp magazine is roughly the size of an issue of a western comic (but not exactly the same trim; I own every issue of Pulp). The notable part of the original graphic novels were that they include color pages not in later editions.

Junji Ito is brilliant! I have every of his comic books I could find in my country, quite a nice collection. He is very popular in Serbia. But his stories don't translate well on movies, at least, not so far. It's just best to buy comic books and read them.

Oh, also, i personally think Shiver is one of the best of Ito's story collections for introducing someone to Ito's work if ur not gonna go for one of his single story/narrative like Tomie or Uzumaki and are gonna go for a collection of his one offs. I was surprised with how many of his one shot's are more.. hauntingly melancholic, more so than horror. Like a gentle goodbye. That one isnt even scary at all. Just sad. Where for the most part, Shiver is straight up horror. I love smashed, but if i wasnt already aware of Ito's style and prose of his writing, i would of been disappointed in it if i went in blind and just knew he was a highly regarded horror manga-kun. Just my $0.02
