MRI Exam Procedure

The MRI is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner.
We can observe almost every part of the body from head to foot and from every angel with this imaging device, particularly the internal organs. And if we have a clear idea of what we are looking for we can attain great results.
This scanner does not use X-rays but a powerful magnetic field, like a giant magnet.
We will use various settings to highlight details in black... or grey... or white. It all depends on what we are looking for.

Had one a few hours ago. The sounds were really different in tone, amplitude, and occurrence. Some of the sounds you will feel will vibrate you. Think of a bad sc-fi movie with bad sound effects. They weren't uncomfortable, just freaking strange.

Hello and thank you for your question. MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. In the simplest terms, MRI machines use extremely powerful magnets combined with electromagnetic fields, and coils which produce radio waves, to produce detailed images of organs and tissues in your body. MRI machines do not use radiation and are non-invasive. They are, however, noisy. Noise is created when magnetic fields are cycled on and off, and when magnets exert an opposing force to each other. (There are several magnets in each MRI machine.) The noise is not harmful, but some people may find it alarming or annoying. Please do not hesitate to ask the staff for ear-plugs or for something to help you relax. Best regards.

I had an MRI this morning. I was not given a bell or object to call for something, therefore I screamed near twenty seven minutes in there "get me out of here," several times. Why? Because for the last ten or eleven minutes the click click click went on that long without stopping. I felt abandoned. The technician did not inform me that the last ten m8nutes would have an ongoing click, click, click. It scared me terribly; for I felt abandoned; panic & very closed in. I know how to count for each second into sixty minutes. Etc. This MRI took about thirty to thirty two minutes of my right shoulder involving the Caracoid & Acromion process; Humeral head areas. Terrible experience. Should I not have been given a bell to call for help if needed?

However, do not hesitate to speak about your fears and anguish to the medical staff, who will surely be able to give you strategies to help you get through it. I had a panic attack, but managed to get through the procedure by closing my eyes for the duration of it and keeping my mind busy. Make sure to close your eyes before they secure the mask and do not open them until out of the machine. I'm getting ready for two more and am going to be doing it that way again.

Had an MRI done on my pelvis yesterday. I had a panic attack as i entered the machine and i had to be taken out for a few minutes. I then re-entered with a black blindfold and completed the procedure which lasted 35mins. Altough i had on headphones with music the noise was still too loud. My ear is presently hurting i cant listen to the tv or radio this morning. I have cotton in my ears. The puppet talking about little noise. He lie!!! This was a scary experience for me. Like im buried alive in a coffin.

An MRI scan can be used when your organ shape or blood vessels are in question, whereas PET scans will be used to see your body's function.
