Just set up a routine of checking flies, depth changing etc and trust me it'll improve your catch rate very fast plus the game changer of tying your own flies ....might do a few salmon fly tying videos in the future.Tight lines.

Thanks again Paul great stuff , your great at explaining . It can’t be easy talking to the camera I know I couldn’t do it so thanks for your effort. Much appreciated. Is there ever a time you’ve caught on a hitch fly there say in low water for instance? Thanks again Paul love watching all your videos. Thanks 🙏

Hi Paul, great tips. I fish a spate river and I am never 100% sure what size of fly to use as the water level changes ever so slightly. I normally fish a 12 in low water and mostly a 10 in most other conditions unless its very high I will use a tube. Also is it a good or bad idea to chop and change flies from dull patterns to bright patterns or is there a rule of thumb I should follow depending on the conditions? Thanks
@MrKingfisher3
@MrKingfisher3 11 ай бұрын
That's an easy answer, fish your most productive pattern in size 14 or 15 in low water then maybe 10 in higher coloured water also the tube is good for high water but I'll let you into a secret I fish 15 all the time just brighter in early season dulling down in late season or very low water / old fish. Tight lines don't forget to sub.

Hey Paul, great video and really informative. Quick question, if you are using a a full sinking shooting lead like a intermediate, sink 3 or sink 5, what leader set up would you use? Richie
@MrKingfisher3
@MrKingfisher3 11 ай бұрын
Any tippet on a sinking line has to be 3ft because if its any longer it's not staying down at the depth you want to achieve, now if you want the fly higher up then go with a longer leader. If I'm using anything deeper than 2ins per second sink polyleader /versileader etc then it's 3ft 20lb trilene or 15lb G3 fluorocarbon because if I want to go deeper again I'll swap the fly for a small bullet tube and I'll need the stronger fluorocarbon for turnover of the tube. Tight lines. Don't forget to sub.

Hi Paul, i'm just a beginner Fly Fisher, but for a good trouts on 5wt road, and got a kitty alike few days ago with trout streamer, which was amazing experience, I jus have a question for you, as I never hooked up a Salmon before, I'm up to do so, do you think that the staff I have will be enough for a salmon, considering that I use to fish on Maigue River in Limerick County, Ireland?
@MrKingfisher3
@MrKingfisher3 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, its a bit light for salmon but its ok for grilse or small salmon. If you're using a single hand rod for salmon a 7/8 wt would be way better for the bigger fish as you have more control and backbone to put plenty of pressure on the fish, remember you will be using heavy 12lb tippet or cast as minimum for salmon fly fishing i.e bigger flies,probably sink tips etc. it'll also be a very good streamer rod for big trout. Great big trout video coming soon . Tight lines.

Hi Paul, thanks for the tips! Haven't had any success this season on the Lee, fortunate to have a brown tag, hoping I'll get one before the season ends, any advice for fishing the weir? Why is the prawn/shrimp technique so dominant there? has it being a good season on the Lee? I think the numbers of fish in 2020/21 seem to be much greater. Always enjoy your vids, cheers mate!
