Spannendendes Video XD Jetzt ist der Unterschied zwischen Wechselpräpositionen mit Akkusativ und Dativ mir Klarer. Also der Punkt ist nicht, ob es Bewegung hat oder nicht, sonder eher, ob es eine Veränderung der Position gibt oder nicht. Diese sind vielleicht Feinheiten, aber sie sind nützlich, grammatische Fälle von einander zu unterscheiden.

Well done, Herr Antrim. I can't wait to see you tackle the Subjunctive next. You may need more than one video for it, especially for Romance speakers for whom the Subjunctive behaves entirely differently than it does in German!

@@MrLAntrim Nah, Flynner is right, the falling takes place on the table and not towards the table. So the falling starts on the table and ends on the table.

I am struggling to remember and apply all of this when speaking. :( Writing is easier because I have time to think about all of the rules and implications. What do you do if you want to speak without stumbling over all of this?
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 5 жыл бұрын
Just speak. Correct errors as you find them and adjust for the future. Errors are part of the learning process. The goal is to limit them with the end goal of eliminating them. Write more so you can have that time to think about it and the more you write the more natural the rules will become. The same is true of input. Read, watch and listen to as much German as possible and the rules will become more natural.

thhhaaaaannnkkkkssss. Ich möchte wissen, ob ich den Satz übersetzen kann als - anstatt to show it is intransitive? Will it be the same tense? It would be easier to understand if it were 🙃
@fremejoker
@fremejoker Жыл бұрын
A tense cannot show off transitiveness, the usage of an accusative object or the inability to use one can. The usage of two way prepositions doesnt tell you when in time something happened, it only tells you if the action takes place in place A or transitioned to place A originating from place B.

German seems to be very motion sensitive, does this apply to only the motions of actual things or to abstract ideas too?
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 3 жыл бұрын
It applies to abstract ideas, too. Ich denke an dich. - I am thinking about you. This uses the accusative, because you are casting your thoughts towards that person, i.e. motion/movement.

I'm struggling to understand why it is: Das Buch hat im Regal gestanden. Shouldn't it be: Das Buch ist (instead of hat) im Regal gestanden? My confusing is arising from a sentence I came across: Ich bin um 7uhr aufgestanden. Doesn't gestanden use sein?
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 4 жыл бұрын
AUFgestanden uses sein, but gestanden uses haben. The "auf" indicates a change of location. Therefore we need sein.

@@MrLAntrim I think it works the other way around, since you are not waiting on the top of the elevator the accusative acts as fall back case, since there is no other case to use. I think it's easier to make a reality check with the dative, whether it is just ridiculous, and if it is, you use accusative as a fall back option.

You are sort of placing the writing into the drawing. The writing wasn't in that place before, but now it is, therefore there is a change in place, which requires the accusative case.

I didn't know that SWIMMING is a motional verb. Exatly i thought that SWIMMING is an except word please! Ok, not problem. N now, "i'm going to the gim"! But before that, i must 2 say something in german. Of course, if u find mistakes, u can control it! Bin recht Lewi? I am not able to understand why in the below sentences accusative is used with Wechselpräpositionen. Das Buch ist in einfachen und kurzen Saetzen gescriben. Er glaubt an eine bessere Zukunft. Both are not related to motion at all, how to do decide in this case. I remember that if there is a state change, then dative should be used.
@MrLAntrim
@MrLAntrim 4 жыл бұрын
The first example sentence is not written in the accusative case. That is dative. Sätze is plural, which requires the -en endings you see on einfach and kurz. In your second example you are using the verb glauben - to believe. When you use this verb with the preposition an, you are casting your belief in the direction of the object, in this case the future. This requires the accusative case. it is a bit more difficult to understand these more abstract uses of these prepositions, which is why many teachers will teach these as verbs with fixed prepositions instead. They just say "you have to memorize that it uses accusative with that phrase".

@@NaaJeevitham500 Everything mentioned in the prepositional phrase is a thing. This thing stays locational or something stays locational in that thing with dative, or is moved from A to B or something is being moved there from A to b when we use accusative. In your first sentence, if we use accusative then the book is written into "simple and short sentences". Quite illogical right? In your second sentence, if we use dative for "eine bessere Zukunft" instead, it becomes "einer besseren Zukunft" and the sentence would mean, that the believing takes place at "einer besseren Zukunft", thus becoming an illogical place/location. Quite a mind twisting thought experiment :D
