The first line gives it away..." He said I'll love you till I die". No matter what happens after that he kept his word. In the end it's about true love, even if it might be one sided.

There will NEVER be another George Jones. His powerful voice has influenced so many people for decades upon decades. The greatest singers acknowledge him as the best. Even Frank Sinatra gave him props. Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings both put him above all the rest. He is a legend among legends.

George and Tammy were married at one time. George didn't want to record this song. He said this is the saddest damn song I ever heard. No one wants to hear this. It went to #1. George kept showing up to the recording studio drunk. So they pieced together all his sessions and it turned out great❤

Its been said that when George Jones sings, the audience cries, I cry and the house starts leaking. Waylon Jennings said "If we all could sing like we wanted, we'd all sound like George Jones". I agree. Great reaction.

George released this song in 1980 - was a monster hit for him late in his life. To everyone's surprise he released a song in 1985 called Whose gonna fill their shoes. Seeing how country music had moved almost completely out of the traditional realm - the song hit home. You still had those greats like George Strait and Alan Jackson who kept true to the traditional country sound - and as you see they have lasted many many years. Another great reaction. Thanks!

‘He said I’ll love you til I die’ is the opening lyric and says it all. Then, “They hung a wreath upon his door’ is another clue that he had died. Hanging a black wreath on someone’s door was a sign to all who saw it that this household was in mourning. This was tradition for hundreds of years and brought to the New World by immigrants. This is still practiced in the south and small towns across America. I used to own a flower shop and we had one we gave the family if they used us for their funeral florals. I come from a Central California town. I grew up on old school country. There’s so much truth in the lyrics!💞

This is largely considered the greatest country song of all time. For more upbeat ones of his try "The Race is On" and "White Lightnin", other great story songs but heart rending are "The Grand Tour " "A Picture of Me Without You" and a duet with Tammy Wynett "Golden Ring ".

George had a LOT of sad songs, Things Have Gone to Pieces, Window Up Above, The Grand Tour and A Picture of Me Without You come to mind immediately, but this song was even too sad for George. Initially, he did not want to record it because it said it was so sad that no one would ever want to listen to it. It turned out to be his biggest hit! Actually, everyone who is married or who was ever married has made this same vow, "He said I'll love you till I die" because isn't that what the line, "till death us do part" in the marriage vows is saying? Sadly, millions of people do not take that vow seriously. The guy in this song said, "I'll love you till I die" and that's exactly what he did, he loved her until he died.

BRO, My friends and I saw George Jones right after 9 - 11. Minnesota has a Native American Casino on our western border. Mr Jones performed to an overflow crowd that night, singing many of his epic songs. Because it was so close to the Twin Tower tragedy in New York city, he incorporated more patriotic songs into his program. And a year or so later, by popular demand he come back to our same Casino for another date. We also were privileged enough to attend that concert. His voice has so much soul, people were literally crying. I'll never forget George or his music!

@MrLboydReacts the song was George Jones's true life story with Tammy Wynette. He wrote the song in 1980 after their tumultuous relationship and divorce and were married two separate people. They still saying and did shows together occasionally. Even though both were married to other people they never lost what they had for each other. The whole story is chronicled in a Showtime special one season documentary basically of their lives together. At the time in 1980 when he wrote this song he was still struggling with alcohol and drugs addiction that tore them apart. Therefore you can see why he would always imagined himself dying for Tammy Wynette. Sadly she passed away in the early 90s at only 55 years old. She was already a good bit younger than him. But sadly, he lived until 2013 at the age of 81 he finally got to join her! The Showtime one season story titled George & Tammy explains it all. It's inspirational yet heartbreaking all at the same same time! You should definitely spend the time to watch it if you truly want to know the story behind the song. Which I think is going on that we should all learn because you never know when they're going to go for the person you love is going to go so good lesson in life that don't take anything for granted. 😢😢 I love that you're interested in the story behind it I think it's great! So much meaning behind so many songs in any genre and it only makes us better to understand the true meaning behind all genres are not familiar with. They usually have good life lessons in them we just don't know the story behind them if they're not hard music necessarily. BTW if you get the chance to check out the Showtime story that tells this chilling story, I'll warn you now! Get a big box if tissues or just bring in the big pack of Charmin TP. You'll go from laughing to cry your heart for a month! It was well worth it for me! Good luck!
