For real. I'm amazed at how good this reaction is. They way you pause real quick and give the reference is really, really enjoyable. Some reactors keep pausing it but don't have anything worthwhile to say when they keep stopping it. Great reaction.

He wrote on his community KZbin page earlier today, "I expected a split reception on masochist, I'm glad I got it I wrote the song on a day in 2021 I felt particularly bitter about living in a sick body for most my life, about anger at the greed in the music industry. Killing everything you know, even your support systems is also about rebirth, some people will have caught the Samsara line and see a man cursing the gods for the hands hes been dealt, others will see it as a track thats just being vulgar and dark for the sake of it. It's all of those things."

Second, third, forth, et cetera everyone else who loves when you react to Ren! You're the only one except maybe Knox who actually gets (like really GET) down in all the pockets and folders that is Ren's extreme knowledge of what's commonly are known as popular culture, be it dated 1920 or 2020. Thank you! 🖤 You've just gotten me as a subscriber, with everything or anything that could bring. xoxo From STHLM, Sweden

On Twitch, Ren said when he wrote Masochist he'd just come out of a "f'kn sh!t situation with the last people I was working with in the music business, so I was angry at everything and I thought I'd write that song (Masochist) and it made me feel better. Obviously it's not literal, I thought that maybe some people who were more religiously inclined might get upset about it but it's all sort of metaphors and it's all like my own journey and my own wrestling with spirituality when your body's been hurting for so many years, so that's where it comes from. It's not like being offensive to be offensive, it comes from a place of doubting your purpose if your in pain all the time. So that verse comes from there, cause I know some people will probably take it literally, as a face value: 'kill your mother, kill your father'; all that sort of stuff - it's just kind of cursing existing basically cursing the sheer act of beling alive, so in case anyone was wondering, that's why."

I love your reactions because you get it! People are not understanding the references and metaphors in this song. They’re getting offended by the literal meaning of the words but fail to understand words have figurative meanings as well. Loved this! ❤

I discovered ren when hi ren had abuot 500000 clicks after barely two months since then I have been deeply immersed in his universe that is now repeatedly referred to by the reactor scene as Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole. As a German with 68 years I learn thanks to Ren since then an incredible amount of facts about hip hop, rap, alternative pop and everything that is influenced and expressed around it. Listening to you and diving into the deeper aspects and connections around Ren's musical and literary multiverse, to which you so profoundly dedicate your reviews, is an absolute pleasure for me and I really enjoy your contributions which you know how to convey with great sympathy and wisdom. Thank you very much.

Awesome reaction. You’re one of the only reactors to get the whole point of this song. Which most people have missed too. First time I heard I wasn’t sure but when I really listened to can understand the metaphor and what he’s actually saying. Thank you, enjoyed that one.

I'm glad to see someone else that bursts out laughing at the, "Nah-nah-nah-nah, mate. That's not him." I love that bit. It's like he breaks and calls himself out on the song - a song that is very aggressive in a way we don't generally hear from Ren. He can come at you, but generally is still good hearted when doing so (unless you are the establishment of course). But this was just aggressive, and I love it. Everybody has to vent from time to time....

The beat when isolated sounds very much like the EMPD "So what you saying" taken from B.T. Express's ("If It Don't Turn You on You Oughta Leave It Alone") break, also the sting like Bee lines with prolonged pronunciation & rising pitch is homage to KRS 1

Yes, there are definitely specific hip-hop references in there but not everything is. I think you were reaching on a few of them. Sometimes it's just a common turn of phrase that's been used by untold numbers of artists. The fact that a hip-hop artist once used a phrase, doesn't give them a trademark on it. Inspiration can come from all kinds of directions, musical and non-musical alike. Especially for an artist like Ren. :)

"Let's switch to role-play. I'll be the court case, and you be O.J." Role-play is often used in a sexual setting. The court case had every indication that O.J. was guilty, but it let him off anyway. I do believe Ren is saying that he is "getting us off" with this song.
