i feel that it's also to infantilize jack, after being done with the act of killing, he is going to play like a kid would do with its food while it would be more Hannibal's thing to play with his food he doesn't do it because he's an adult who's scolding jack right now btw, he's not battling him, he's teaching him, the word naughty in the next line is to reinforce that idea that Jack is a child that needs lecturing and Hannibal is presenting himself at that disappointed figure bc while Jack is "mean" and it's no big deal he's also sloppy, he's a kid who doesn't do his kills properly, without class, just on basic instinct from the start to the end, just like a ditracted kid would do with a work

There was semen found on the shawl of one of Jack the rippers victims, it’s something they’ve tried to use to Dna trace him now, but I also don’t think the line play with her body was implying that he did anything sexual to them, it was more about how he would mutilate and brutalize them. Dan Bull aka Jack The Ripper also portrayed Winston Churchill in ERB's Winston Churchill vs Theodore Roosevelt. Also I think the sloppy line is in reference to just how many eye witnesses his murders were reported to have. Like every one of his kills had like some random passer-by see it happen. Maybe that's what he meant by sloppy? Don't think he'd mean the murders himself since if he never left enough evidence behind to be found then he's the opposite of sloppy during the actual kill.

I believe "play with her body" refers to the fact that Jacks was essentially taking out muscles and organs and moving them around and messing with them at the crime scenes, possibly to figure out how what they moved like outside of the human body, like a child dissecting a frog and poking around the organs because they're curious. Essentially accusing Jack of being childish in his killings.
@samsparks72393 жыл бұрын
I think when Hannibal says "And play with her body" he's not implying anything sexual. In his context, playing would simply be killing. Cutting them up, but leaving them there to bleed out? Thats the part that annoys Hannibal, he considers it sloppy because he would have at least used the meat. I don't know, that's just where my mind took it.

Jack's "I never got caught" line falls flat for me too. He was up against Keystone Cops more or less, Hannibal was up against CSI's on par with Grissom, Horatio, and Mac...if we're keeping it fictional.
@jace87063 жыл бұрын
Jack had to deal with real police, albeit unequiped like you said. Hannibal had to deal with cops who were scripted to never catch him, so they could have ESP for all that matters and they would still fail. Thats the issue with fiction.
@searchingfororion3 жыл бұрын
@@jace8706 You're pretty close about the ESP statement Will Graham while working alongside Hannibal Lecter (first catching Hobbs, then the cat and mouse on Dr. Lecter's own victims, and later - to his dismay and desperation Francis Dollarhyde/The Red Dragon) it's mentioned that he has a unique ability to see and feel from the perspective of others even if what that may "disturb or sicken" him. This is mentioned in the book and the perception seriously disturbs him, but it's also what saves his life when he gets too close to the truth about Lecter. This is emphasised strongly in the first attempt at adapting a Harris novel (Red Dragon) in the 70's or 80's in a film called "Manhunter". Of course, after the acclimated Jody Foster/Anthony Hopkins "Silence" and then the not nearly as well received "Hannibal" a good handful of years later we had the Ed Norton Will Graham in "Red Dragon" where we see the realization and resulting conflict take place. However, with *Sir* Anthony Hopkins reprising the role he needs dialogue and screen time, so a lot of it is taken from Will's realizations. In addition, with Edward Norton as the actual lead, he's not going to have his character completely on the verge of a nervous breakdown and having fits. The shortly lived T.V show did hold true to this aspect, however. ---- In short, the only person that caught Hannibal while not psychic *did* have an extra perception that could not be taught or trained.

The major murder by Jack (I forget her name off the top of my head) was behind closed doors, and he mutilated her for hours. And if I recall, genital mutilation was absolutely involved. I think (not sure) that the letter was confirmed by scotland yard to be from jack the ripper, since it had the half eaten kidney of a murdered woman with it. I don't think she was missing, I believe her corpse was found with one kidney missing. Also I don't believe the letter mentioned anything about jack the ripper (the name) it was only signed with "from hell". It was the media that gave him the nickname (which is what media loves to do to this day). Also the line "play with her body" can be interpreted in many different ways, so doesn't have to be sexual. Could also reference to jack the ripper literally ripping apart the bodies of his victims and leaving a bloody, gory mess (Jack's way of playing).

Much as a Gourmet loves to Cook and prepare food for others a Gourmand loves eating the food and having new experiences. That is what Lecter was going for here. Also Bon Vivant of violence means he takes it like a form of art to be enjoyed and done to high standards. Not in back alleys in the pre sanitation era I'd Victorian England. The air was foul with waste from the sewers opening into the Thames and the coal smoke was horriffic. No modern systems for capturing the pollutants or reburning the unused fuel. One of my favourite rap battles! There was definitely a serial killer in 1888, but no-one knows his name. There were many new companies printing tabloid newspapers that were common amongst the poor people, so the newspapers were all fighting each other to try and write the best story and sell the most papers, hence some of the details about Jack the Ripper was created to sell newspapers. There were many letters allegedly from the killer, but only one is a serious possibility. The first letter to mention Jacks name is now commonly accepted to be a fake written by a journalist. The From Hell letter came with a kidney, and the letter said the other kidney had been eaten. The kidney was human and had a certain medical condition which the victim also had the same medical condition. Over 100 people were named to be the killer, but there are only about 5 suspects who are the most serious possibiities.

I like the knowledge and break down of the terms and meanings you give in these rap battles. I honestly didn't know what the 7/7 bombers part meant until now. Now I do :) If you'd like to see some other series of videos to get into and react to, a couple of my favorites are "Oddly Familiar In Video Games" and "Death Battle!". The first one consists primarily of music in video games that sound oddly familiar. First, he'll play a snippet of music from the video game (with footage of the game in question), then a snippet of the real-life song or songs that sound very similar to it. I think it would be fun to see if you could correctly guess the song or songs that sound familiar before the reveal. On very rare occasions, the host gets it wrong at first, but one or two episodes later, he shows the correct song to make up for it. There are over 60 episodes as of this post (though also as of this post, the first songs of Episodes 1 and 2 are having a copyright issue, so hopefully he'll clear it up soon as he was able to clear it up before). The second is where they (usually) take two fictional characters and see who would win in a fight as if they were real. They go through a brief history of the character, describe their abilities, feats, strengths, weaknesses, etc. in a scientific analysis and then show a video of what their fight would look like. The very first episode is Boba Fett from Star Wars vs. Samus Aran from the Metroid video game series, which aired like 10-11 years ago as of this post. Some of my favorites include Mario vs Sonic, Goku vs Superman, Solid Snake vs Sam Fischer, Iron Man vs Lex Luthor, and Lara Croft vs Nathan Drake. There are over 150 episodes as of this post.

To be fair, during Jack the Ripper's reign of terror there was another, a serial killer that had been active for years before Jack's crimes and not even 5 miles away from Whitechapel. He/she went by The Torso Killer as they would leave mutilated torsos along the river bank and in doorways, body parts were found but never the heads. As Jack gained fame the Torso Killer's activity moved into Jack's territory, and by 1888 Jack disappeared, while the Torso Killer remained active for a few years after. Anyway, either it was the same person, or we had a little serial killer rivalry on our hands here in London. (Also fun fact, it is speculated the Torso Killer threw a severed hand in Mary Shelley's garden as a macabre joke response to the Frankenstein book.)

Jack would frequently remove inards and drape them over the shoulders of the victims, most likely for whoever found the body to be more disturbed by. Teeth marks were found on the uterus of a couple of victims implying he may have TRIED cannibalism but either didn't like it as much as he thought he would or realized that particular organ is very tough, pretty much impossible to bite through. So I'd say he "played" with his victims bodies quite a bit.

I like your erudite way of explaining this, however, there was an actual killer in Victorian England that use to kill the women of the night. The police called him Jack the ripper. Now as to Hanibal Lector it was just a fictional character in a novel. This novel was based on an American serial killer that was a cannibal.

To my knowledge there was no evidence it was one person doing the killing. Could have been a string of copycats.

The From Hell letter was most likely a fake meant to sensationalize the killings, the letter you mentioned that came with with a part of a kidney was most likely real and sent to a vigilance group that had formed to watch over the neighborhood as a way to taunt them.

Penny Dreadful's were cheap Victorian serial literature produced in England in the nineteenth century. They were published in weekly parts of between 8 and 16 pages and they cost one penny. The subject matter of the stories were generally horror based hence the name Penny Dreadful. Jack The Ripper most definitely did exist, he is real serial killer who prowled London in the 1880s. He was never caught and his identity has never been revealed. You are correct that he did not come up with the name Jack the Ripper but the serial killer himself, was very real. I am loving your videos! You Sir are breath of fresh air. Keep them coming.

There is no conformation that Jack the Ripper actually ate any of the organs he took. The from Hell letter is believed to be the only letter that is believed to be really from the actual Ripper, so it's possible he was a cannibal. However, since he was never caught the best we can guess is that he collected the organs for trophies. And the Jack the Ripper letter wasn't actually sent to the police but was sent to The Star newspaper, who later brought the letter to the police. However, it is suspected that the letter was fake and possibly written by the papers editor and a journalist called Fredrick Best.

The "Letter from Hell" was the letter written to the family of one of the cannibal Albert Fish's victims.

"you pray on a prostitute" he kills them "and play with her body" and then he proceeded to cut them up and stuff, like he said leaving a bloody mess, it wasn't necessary referring to anything sexual

I believe the "I don't mind that you're naughty, Jack, I hate that you're sloppy" line is in reference to Red Dragon/Man Hunter. When Lector is cross-examining the killer he calls his work "sloppy" because he's new or not fully in control of his killings yet. Calls him a "pilgrim" in their correspondence and acts like a bit of a mentor admiring, but also disappointed in the new generation. But, it's been quite a few year since I've seen either of those adaptations, so I could be very wrong.

By the way, Penny Dreadfuls were small pamphlets sold during the victorian era that contained stories. The gorier they were the better.

Jack the Ripper is a name journalist created, but a true killer, never got caught.
@Glitchyybean2 жыл бұрын
10:36 No, it was more of a reference to how Jack the Ripper would cut them open and literally play and rearrange their guts before leaving their bodies to be found at the crack of dawn, he often left gorey and unkept messes behind after his killing which is also why Hannibal calls him sloppy in the rap battle (Hannibal was very clean and refined with his kills lol). Not play as in sexual, play as in literally play with the organs 😂 But there has been speculation that he might have at one point done sexual deeds with the ladies, because there was actually DNA (semen) found on one of the victims.
