21:23 Quite the opposite. This elder’s speech just proves that there is some freedom of speech in China.

As a Chinese person, I think I can assume the reason that you said this is because your assumption on the lack of freedom of speech might be a little too strict or maybe just inaccurate. It's not like we can't criticize anything or that we live in fear of saying anything 24/7. But when shit happens and the official doesn't want people to know the truth, they'll do a lot of shit, technically and legally to stop the truth which they will call "rumors" to spread.

Right, and I'm curious if he's actually used the app in China or is basing his claim on what he's heard from others & media. If so it would be quite ironic for him to say their responses are "engrained" when the same would be true for him. Maybe you could argue that because the education system in the US is so garbage, the "brainrot" content in China seems more 'educational' to us. Having lived in China for a bit of time I know that the content is still braindead, but the difference is that parenting in China and parenting in the US is different, and politicians in the US are using China as a scapegoat in order to make people feel better for their ineffective parenting.

They are less brainwashed than westerners. Reasons are simple. #1 America/the West has the best, most funded, sophisticated, ubiquitous, seemless propaganda on the planet, no contest, easily. #2 Chinese media has no reason to lie about any situation other than when it comes to China. If it wanted to make its rivals look worse(the West) all it has to do is tell the truth. Telling the truth to Chinese topics is also not a bad thing, even Chinese in China suffer from the brain damage American media does there. #3 America HAS TO LIE, her hands are dirty in almost all major conflicts in the world, and to beat China in this hegemonic, ideological, and racial war it has to lie like crazy, we are the primary instigators and antagonizers

Sigh...America/Westerners are still admired far too much in China. They're always so loving and generous if the other side shows an inch of goodwill, real or not, especially if they're white. Even to those that wish to push China back into destitute poverty. It is what it is. Their media doesn't demonize, that's a big factor why they're not angry and antagonizing others. If their elites wanted them to hate X demographic, they just throw money at it and it happens. This goes for everywhere, especially Western countries who have their hands dirty in every situation and HAVE TO LIE. And America has the GOAT propaganda, why not use it

Collectivism is not just Chinese, though. Japan is also an extremely collectivist country despite being much smaller in both area and population. Many Asian countries are. I think the reason why Asians seem like humble people in general is because of this lack of emphasis on individual glory. Duty to our groups - be it family, company or society is valued more than personal triumphs. When some athlete wins a gold medal, it’s always celebrated as the country’s victory rather than their own feat. In fact, it’s viewed as fulfillment of your responsibility to your country. That’s why they’re so image-based. If your personal triumph is the country’s, that means personal failings - like a DUI or drug possession - is also a failure to your country. Hence, public apologies are common even for these small offenses. I don’t know if it’s like that in China, but it’s that way in Japan. Just illustrating the depth of this collective mindset. 😅

TikTok is not covered under the freedom of speech expressly. That right covers our ability to discuss the government in a negative and critical way, even, as it was pointed out, insulting political figures and leaders, especially through the form of media and press. IF there is an argument against banning TikTok, it would be in saying that it would restrict the flow of protected political speech, by removing a popular media outlet. However, I don't think that holds water. First, TikTok was offered the chance to sell, above market rate for sure. Second, there's simply too many other freely accessible outlets for free speech and media.

Yah a European Black queen. Which again is almost them doing a rewrite of history as another show came out that made a black gay king in a wheelchair of England in thr 1600s.... I mean it's like a movie coming out that would have George Washington as a Chinese man or India man....

I'm an African and I did the same thing, so I just turned off my brain and watched the damn show. It's fiction but with historical characteristics. I still have not watched Little Mermaid. What he meant was, a black queen in Europe, at a time when black people in Europe were lower than everyone else, it doesn't make sense. So, I understand what he meant.

He was scoffing at the obvious over-correction. If they wanted to empower certain sectors, they should do an authentic display of the actual heroes of that culture instead of inserting them in everything without considering how that can chip away at the integrity of an already existing culture. It’s so blatant it becomes ridiculous. A caricature. It’s not flattering at all to be represented that way.

That and I don't want cheap Chinese products in general. I am a musician, and Peavy (amp company) used to make their amps in USA - early 90s. They are some of the best Peavy's you can buy today. They started making them over in China and they are absolute trash, no serviceable parts, low quality parts, and the consistency from amp to amp is vast. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing Chinese made instruments Harley Benton, Epiphone, Ibanez, and Yamaha come to mind. For the price, they blow USA, Japan, made instruments out of the water. The reason is the labor is so cheap, you can employ literal children to make parts. Thats a while different convo ---

It’s funny the Chinese are criticizing the freedom in America. It’s also funny so many people can’t comprehend what it means to be “free in America” Did you think the country was going to be free 100%? That’s impossible for any nation on earth. What it does mean, is the ability to hold certain things and criticize without consequences from above. Can you do that in China? No. In fact, there’s a great majority of nations that won’t allow you to. As for tax? You’re not going to not be taxed. That’s life. You pick it up now but said nothing about taxes years ago. Maybe people should understand that the country of America is actually one of the better places to be than the other bad ones who provide you with little to nothing to live.

This is the tragedy of Americans. People in China browse English social media, so we in China know what Americans are talking about, while people who use English don't use China's social media at all to see how China people discuss politics. So when you discuss the life and speech of China people, they are all processed by the mainstream media in your-vague and ridiculous, far from the real China society.

Critical thinking please. Asian Boss isnt a chinese-run channel, nor do they operate solely in China. They are based in S. Korea. They operate in Taiwan, China, Japan, S. Korea, Singapore and probably others as well. They employ individuals in respective countries to conduct street interviews and publish those interviews after some editing. The only reason I can think of regarding why you’d assume theyre propaganda is because they made a video on China which did not conform to you preconceived biases. Unless youre happy living in an echo chamber, I’d suggest learning to have an open mind when dealing with opposing views - maybe you’ll gain a new perspective, maybe you’ll gain a more solid reasoning and conviction on your point.

From thousands of years ago till now, the west didn't even know how to cook and feed their kids properly yet, when the east was feasting on some of the finest spicy ass that the planet could ever produce. 😂 There's too many examples to go on and on. But let's start there today, and not bogged down the internet. Start learning something today, don't let history repeat by arrogance and miss another opportunity to grow further.
