If you tune your car for more power, you need to make sure that everything else can hold that power. So you shouldn't have been replacing your clutch with another oem clutch, you should have been replacing it with a clutch that can handle the power that you haven't tuned for.

🥳AWESOME VIDEO! 😃Thank You for sharing your honest experience and the knowledge you've gained from doing it. I have a 2003 I'm working on.🤔Been wondering if this really would be worth it. Gonna hold off putting a turbo, putting a pin in the electric supercharger, and now just gonna take a hard pause moving forward with the chip. 🤨Everything has that, it'll be good for like 3months before shit starts fok'n up and getting expensive kinda feeling💣🤑. I'll just trade up from a paperclip to a racecar then. Thanks again! 😁👍 P.S. After watching this and thinking on it, especially in regards to my 03, it would, and does, make more sense maxing out those other essential components that would have to compensate for the upgrades of power FIRST! In theory, I think that might make the car drive a little better on stock power without wearing on the rest of the OEM stuff. I don't know... Still learning.

@@heliusuk As yourself this buddy - 1bhp per litre is about what you'd expect from most decent engines. How many 2.0 petrol turbos produce >200bhp?. Your car produces 1.25bhp per litre from a 3 cylinder engine so it's already under quite a bit of stress. It's well known that my engine in my Audi A4 (a 1.4 tfsi) produces 148bhp but to ensure the turbo doesn't cause damage the exhaust manifold and the bottom of the engine are 1 piece, they are not bolted together like on most cars. That's so the pressure from the turbo doesn't blow that gasket) if VW group feel the need to do that with a 1bhp per litre engine then how much more stress if your 1.0 ecotec engine under?. Bear in mind Ford won't care if these engines last 7 or 8 years before getting major damage as they are well out of warranty by that time. i know you've already done it so if i were you i'd revert it back and sell the car in case you've damaged any parts by running 20% more power.

@@mrlopes1234 I mean, I can not say a disagree, but you are driving diesels and you are talking about guys who did it on petrol engines. So I agree, no you should not think your diesel is going to be sporty no matter what tune you do on it and yes, it will put more strain on it because that is not what diesels are made to be. Diesel cars are great for long journeys, those powerful ones are great even for overtaking during those journeys, but if you want to race from street lights and/or on tracks just get a sporty petrol. It revs higher, it sounds better, it can be mid/bigger block or turbo and it's made to be sporty

Depends what car you got & how well you do your homework on the hardware that’s in the car; for example; a 2015 BMW 320D Efficient Dynamics (163hp) has the exact same hardware as a 325D (220hp) gearbox, turbo, torque converter all the same! So you can safely stage 1 to 210hp; plus a stage 2 Xhp gearbox flash for the auto box actually improves the life of the gearbox; provided you don’t thrash the ass off it! But that principle applies wether a car is remapped or not

Yeah that’s my point but most people don’t know to check things like this first. You have to know your and how the manufacturer has made the final product. Yes, a lot of cars have a de-tuned engine with the same parts as a higher spec but you have to k ow and do your research.

Just don't do it. Buy a faster car. Remapping will stress your engine components a lot. Experienced it myself, the intake valves were gone. It was way faster, 316d mapped to 320d. From 116hp to 190hp. And yes, after 9 months it was just drinking oil. Huge smoke plumes. I had it remapped to factory again. No plumes, oil consumption was ok. Won't do it again. It's just not advisable. Buy a faster car or live with it.

I had a Mk2 TT 2.0 TDI. Same engine as yours. 170bhp standard. Remapped to 208bhp. Drove it for 2 years taking it from 70k miles to 105k miles then sold it. No issues at all. No problems with the flywheel. There are maps that are safe and maps that are not, I have seen some terrible maps on cars. Also. Yes if you get a remap then drive it like you stole it all of the time, of course its going to wear out components faster due to the extra power. Just have to be careful. Wait for the time and the place to boot it. I'm remapping my Mk3 TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro on Tuesday at Viezu Technologies. Not anxious at all seeing as though I have mapped 2 cars there before over the last 6 years and had zero issues. Choose a reputable tuning company that will dyno and create a custom map for you, not just throw one on that's for your model of car. That's the key.

I think you may have a point there.. VW do 140bhp and 170bhp and sell 170bhp for extra 5k but probably just done factory remap.. So upping power to 170 is probably safe.. Problem comes when you take their 170bhp to 210bhp.. You are then running the same kit as 140bhp model at 210bhp which is asking for trouble.. Just a thought?? Same with volvo and bmw. Buy low model in range and remap it within the normal model ranges is probably safe.. Going above what manufacturer designed that engine and gearbox to run at is asking for problems..

Young man talking with a mature head. Its worth noting the origins of a stage 1 map...and for those that don't know here goes : Manufacturers supply cars across the world. So 2 identical cars could end up with one in a polluted hot dusty city and the other in a clean air environment with good fuel ....but the makers need to warranty them both. So they build a safety margin in the output and performance of the engine. A stage 1 just removes that safety margin and you may see an lmrovement in fuel consumption but consider all the fast driving you will do with the extra power, that fuel won't be in your tank for long. Also, when you chip or map a car you are taking other components to thier limits, things such as brakes or clutches and Turbos...so in time other components will have stress failures anyway. Ask anyone who's properly tuned a real performance car from top to bottom, it costs at least double what it should have cost and it never ends. Its like a drug. And its money you will never get back. A potential buyer may be put off because he won't want a car thats been tuned, as its obvious the car would have been driven hard by the owner....

Appreciate this video and your honesty I've got a GTC 2.0 cdti and been toying with the idea of getting a new car for something more powerful but it's an expense I could obviously do without as in the real world for commuting 165bhp is enough and 270nm feels fine. I'd just like more excitement but as you've said, the strain it puts on other components such as the clutch concerns me and your honest assessment of your experience has swayed me. I'll make do and upgrade when the time is really right. Atm I've had it for 5 years and it's never skipped a beat. I'll own it outright in two months so keeping it until is truly packs up would he the sensible thing to do

@THEmomentumJUNK1E agreed that it'd be fine, but that isn't true about the ZF8. In the 2 series the 8HP45 is fitted (8HP50 for the LCI model), rated to 450nm (500nm for the LCI) max, admittedly it'll do more than that no problem but the true 800nm capabilities are reserved for the 8HP70/8HP75 which itself is reserved for the more powerful models. All of that said, I run 900nm+ through an 8HP70 and it's never missed a beat.

You should have upgraded your clutch and flywheel to a stage 1 and saved yourself a lot of time and money. That's why they call the parts 'Stage 1'. Some cars can handle a stage 1 tune on stock parts but most these days can't. People always make that mistake thinking 'oh I'll get a stage one and my car will be better', sadly most of the time, this is incorrect.

Great vid. The golden rule is no more than 30% increase if you want to retain reliability. Manufacturers tend to build in a 50% margin, so the closer to that you get to that figure, the more likelihood of something going wrong. More than 30% also means upgrading the engine internals, up-rating the brakes and transmission etc. Audi manual gearboxes are notoriously weak, that's why I'm glad I've got a DSG. I had a stage-1 remap and the car drove like it should've come from the factory. I upgraded to stage -2 with an exhaust down-pipe (around 20%+) increase and now the car flies. Lookup "Darkside testing tuning map" who've done a rolling road comparison of tuning boxes v remap on diesels.
@sookoll23
@sookoll23 4 жыл бұрын
Audi auto transmissions (Tiptronic) are also notoriously weak. And don't even get me started on the Multitronic. Audis just aren't that great for tuning unless you've already got an S or RS model IMO. Now MB diesels with the 5 speed automatic on the other hand.... Go nuts. And then if you want to go further than 30%, have the transmission built for more torque. Those same transmissions (with stronger internals) have been used in V12 twin turbos, so if you have them beefed up, they'll have no trouble with a tuned inline 6 diesel.

I wouldn't say they were amateurs mate. It was done at AMD in Essex. I pretty sure they know what they are doing there. The only problem was that the car was pushing out 280lbs foot of torque before remap and 360ish lbs after remap. The flywheel was only rated for 300lbs max. I agree that the tuner should know the limits but in reality the tuner would tell me to upgrade the flywheel before remapping or not to bother if i'm not looking to upgrade it. I don't think they'll turn customers away otherwise they'd take a massive hit in their income lol

Things to note When mapping car support the remap correctly U can push it as much as u want if your car can deal with more torque and power that’s fine but if your on the limit uprate your clutch That’s the only way depending on the car u might want to uprate other things also such as boost pipes You can also ask the tuner to set the torque less or more linear so it’s less stress in lower components and longevity’s but if u update the low end things ur good to go it’s just more money

I think remaps are pretty interesting when u have a "limited" engine. I mean, sometimes brands offer the same engine with 3 levels of power. If u get a lower version, going from 120 to 180 Hp, when max stock is 170 Hp is fairly safe and difference is enough. For 20/30 Hp don't think is that worthy as well

I’ve remapped 3 cars and haven’t had a problem...all diesels (BMW X5 3.0d, Audi A4 Cab 2.5 tdi V6, Land Rover Discovery 3.0 SDV6 HSE). Don’t bother remapping a petrol though as that isn’t worth the increase in bhp/torque. The mechanicals in a diesel are already beefy enough to deal with increased torque. The main thing is the research on the remap made by the company producing it...I’ve always used Superchips and always will. ‘Back street’ remaps and remaps purchased at the garage may be cheaper but will only cause problems, such as the mentioned flywheel issue, because the research hasn’t been carried out. I don’t work for Superchips, I’m just a satisfied customer.

Very informative opinion. And also correlates to what, despite them not being real, racing video games are basically telling you while you are modifying your cars. You HAVE to upgrade EVERY part on your car for each part compliments and supports the other! Games like Need for Speed and Gran Turismo go in depth letting you know that you can only upgrade one part of your car to "Street" "Underground" or "Pro" for so long while still racing the other parts still on stock and NOT see any huge improvement compared to where if you UPGRADE everything so that each part can handle what the other parts are putting out. Gran Turismo does this the best by telling you how you'll only see gains by using a closely tuned or compatible part with another. So yeah, before doing any ECU remapping, upgrade the core parts to withstand that new output demand. SO GLAD I watched this video before investing in just an ECU for my daily driver to give it a small boost of 60 to 70 HP to it's already lame 78 HP. Because that would have damaged the stock parts inside of it like SUPER bad and voided the warranty that I still have on it should anything bust and it's due to the aftermarket ECU installed. Oh well...

I have a Alfa Romeo GT 1.9JTD which I remapped from 170bhp to around 200bhp. Before doing anything to it I did a bit of research on what the GT can take and what usually needs upgrading. Had the flywheel changed from dual mass to single mass with an uprated clutch that can take 300bhp / 500nm. Had the EGR and swirl flaps deleted along with a downpipe, and removed one silencer. I also installed a Q2 diff. I also did research on how far the turbo and injectors can be pushed and stayed well within the safety margin for them. With all that said the 1.9JTD can take a hell of a lot more before breaking. Also the remap I did with ECM Titanium, where the extra boost and fuel only applies between 3000 RPM and 4500 RPM above 80% load. There are no sudden spikes in the map and the extra boost rolls in gradually. This allows for stock fuel consumption when driving normally and even a slight bit spirited, but returns that bit extra at the top end. All of the mods were done for longevity and to help the engine run with less strain even though it's boosting more. Just a note: do your research well before you remap your car. It could have ended badly for me, but the car has been running like this for 2 years without fault. The best car is a stock one.

Sachs is not a cheap or trashy part. It’s a company that is usually used by most car companies. The problem was that the part was only rated to 300lbs max torque and the remap took the torque to 360lbs. Knowing what I know now, yes, I should have got a higher rated flywheel/ clutch but that’s the main point of my video. The majority of people don’t know things like this so I’m just trying to give some info to be aware of if a person does decide to get a remap. Most people don’t know what parts to check and don’t know know the ratings. In general, I think remapping is not worth it unless you are looking to go all the way and seriously upgrading your car. Eg: remap, exhaust, clutch, breaks, turbo, cooling system etc

Everything in your vehicle works as a unit. With that in mind you really have to pay attention to what and how much you upgrade on it. If you add more power you need to be sure of what else is being stressed because of the extra boost and either upgrade those items as well or drive only to the limit that it can handle. Took me 4 years to finish my 88gt Complete engine dismantle and upgrade to stage 3 track everything except heads top to bottom even injection was staged 3 and man did it ever preform. Every time I got out I was shaking all over from the rush as if I had just escape death lol I did everything by the book for my engine build but forgotten about the clutch..duh .. it didn’t last long.. I ordered a stage 3 race kit $600usd. It was amazing and so much fun ... 3 weeks later I had to change the transmission because it completely shattered Few weeks later another transmission.. then another until I realized my engine was killing them and it’s been parked for years now I should have been smarter about it and took my time

I don't think it's as simple as "don't map your car because it puts extra stress on components and they'll wear faster". It depends on the car. Manufactures release the same car with the same components but with the ECU held back. They do this to comply with emission quotas. A good example is a VAG car. VAG make cars with 140 BHP and 170 BHP. Every single component is identical. If you map the 140 BHP car you're not going to reduce the life expectancy of the parts because they're already designed to take 170 BHP. However, if you map the 170 BHP version of the car then that's when you can run in to issues. A basic example, but i think you all get the point.
@THEmomentumJUNK1E
@THEmomentumJUNK1E 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely correct. What's more, on VAG cars even the high output versions are designed with about 25 to 30% headroom. mapping the 170 BHP version up to 210 BHP will not reduce the lifetime of the engine at all according to experts.

We have less strict emission standards than countries like US and Canada. Therefore the slightly higher outputs. Also, I have measured the torque output of my 2.0TDI 177 BHP and it peaks at about 410N.m. for 2.5 seconds, so they already produce more than "stock" numbers from the factory.

A remap for the most part just isnt worth it at all, period. The only exception id say is importing a japanese car and remapping for UK fuel etc, you might be able to safely squeeze a bit of juice, and have a smoother ride (twin turbo cars with a VoD issue between the turbos etc) out of it but not much. Glad you are one of the honest ones that tackles the clutch, flywheel & other general wear a 'simple remap' adds on.
