Been waiting patiently for this one. I've been growing rootstock for 4 or 5 years and started (summer) grafting two year ago, 91.2 success rate. Lol. I have enough rootstock to try winter grafting now. Thanks guys for another great video!

I appreciate the content as always guys 🙏🏻 this one in particular as I'm going to start grafting some of my maples this spring, is this the best time? I'm based in the UK and I wanted to know your advice on the post care once grafted in this country and climate? Such as the best place to put it and maintain once grafted to make sure the graft strikes! I took your advice on finding some ghost maples at Junkers yard and managed to purchase a Mikazuki, purple ghost and Amber Ghost. Also managed to get a Como, Sawa Chidori, Peaches and cream, amagi shigure, ariadne and a Sawa from another place. So I have a lot of wonderful specimens that I can't wait to re produce and multiply! Thankyou so much 🙏🏻

Thank you Matt and Tim, amazing and very informative video, as always. Is this technique the only one that works for Japanese maples? Or could it be possible to use other techniques like tongue, cleft, bark or splice grafting? And what about budding (patch budding, chip budding, and T-Budding)? . I'm curious because in all the videos I've seen so far on grafting Japanese maples people use side-veneer grafting, which made me wonder if that's the only technique that works for these trees or it just has the highest rate of success, especially when some trees I own seem to have been grafted in a different way (or maybe I'm wrong, since the graft becomes less prominent with time to the point it might be hard to see where the tree was grafted if it's a very mature specimen) . And if several techniques are possible, how do you know when to use one over others? Thank you again for teaching us so much about these wonderful trees.

Fantastic video. Thank you! Random question: Is it possible to graft a Japanese Maple to a non-japanese maple? For example, I have an extremely vigorous maple tree in my yard. Could I use something like that for root stock?

Hey guys i have a grafting question, i have a japanese black pine and i want to do an approach graft with one of its own branches into the trunk . Ive seen 2 ways on yt one where they remove the cambium on the sides of the graft and lay it into the trunk and one they just lay the branch into the trunk without removing cambium and nail it in. I was told without removing cambium the branch will still take im guessing the tree will roll over the graft and take to itself but how do i know when to cut the branch off then.? How would it fuse without removing the cambium? Im confused. Hope u guys could help me out with this
@MrMapleShow
