Honestly, Central Branch first and electrify Montauk up to Patchogue. Some had that idea for a while.

No. Just no. I want to continue to see the C3 bilevels since they might be the last bilevels the LIRR ever obtains.

@@MrMaster767 Again, the C3s are the only bilevels in NY state. If the entire LIRR is electrified, they will be scrapped prematurely because the MTA is not going to spend $20 million+ to get new electric locomotives for them

Nice shots, do the dm30ac engines convert from electric to diesel power after the third rail ends once they depart East Wilson? Also what power is stronger, electric or diesel?

Aaron Bayat Diesel. And they can stay in Electric as long as the Engineer wants to. And if 3rd Rail is present.

MrMaster767 Not true. Eastbound DM's must change to diesel in Woodside, westbounds at NASSAU/PORT if I remember (before Jamaica, so that if something goes wrong there's mechanics at the ready, and it's easy to cancel the train if need be)

MrMaster767 There's really nothing different other then you hear the fans going nuts, traction motors are more audible, You hear the traction motor blowers, Air compressor... Really nothing too exciting about it. They are a hell of a lot faster in E mode vs D mode because the traction motors don't have to wait for the engine to load up and deliver power to em. It's all right there from the 3rd rail so it's instant torque.

+Matthew Lyn M9s. by 2017 they'll start replacing M3s. By 2020 they'll all be gone.
