You HAVE TO wait until the end of the movie, as it just gets better and better!!
This is Moto Lancaster services with the "Pennine Tower" which is a derelict building.
The building does have a bit of history, which means there is a possibility of finding some old lifts.
AND...mrmattandmrchay go the extra mile and film much, much more!
Here is a link to "mrphill100" 's pennine tower explore. i.e. - he did the actual tower, I did the lifts :)

When I was a little boy in the 80s... my family and I visited these motorway services quite a lot, but one time in particular we visited late at night as we were heading back to Cumbria from Blackpool having been there for the day and I wandered off to play with the lifts as I had a fascination with them at the time. Unbeknownst to me they had shut the services on the other side as was the practice back then when one side was less busy and I ended up in said lift, just before they locked it off. The lift stopped suddenly, I was plunged into darkness and was left banging on the doors for what felt like an eternity. Staff and customers helped my parents look for me, but apparently it was some time before someone heard me inside the lift... still don't like lifts to this day.

Those lamp indicators are very sophisticated. I imagine that there is some extra logic to light up the "other lift" indicators, plus the "up" and "down" words in there.

I always wondered what U and D was for in these old Otis lifts. I remember the old lifts at Debenhams's (Hull) had it as well as NS, whatever that was.
@idl3k_elev
@idl3k_elev 2 жыл бұрын
They were used for controlling the lift manually when the lift is enabled into inspection control. The U and D buttons are obviously up and down. The NS button is for bypassing hall calls, hence it means "Non Stop".
@pineappleroad
@pineappleroad Жыл бұрын
@@idl3k_elev the U and D buttons in the car would have been part of attendant mode, to allow the attendant to change the direction of the car (I don’t entirely understand why this is a feature, but all sources of information i have available to me agree on that those buttons are for attendant mode) Lifts/Elevators in the UK, from this time period, would only have inspection controls on the car top Newer Lifts/Elevators may have up to 3 sets of inspection controls, but the shaft doors must be closed and locked in order for the inspection controls to operate

3:07 that "lift to restaurants" sign is probably from 'Top Rank' (owned by the Rank Organisation) (the first company to own this location when it opened in 1965) since the tower was a restaurant. it could have been from "Pavilion" (who took over from 'Top Rank' in 1992 & those round signs in the car park & stripy poled lamp posts with banners on them are from Granada (who took over in 1995) (the predecessors to Moto)). and at 6:30 I heard a World Dryer Airforce hand dryer. Moto seem to own the older MSA locations, in which the majority (if not all) still have the good old classic lifts.

5:57 What would happen if you pressed the ascend button? Would the doors have opened?
@mrmattandmrchay
@mrmattandmrchay 6 жыл бұрын
Can't believe I didn't try it, but I know the answer. Now, EXPRESS lifts - when you press UP, the lift arrives and it expects to go UP - if you press a lower floor, if there is a higher call it will always respect the direction it intends to travel. For OTIS, when you press UP, the lift will stop if it's going up, but if you are the last call, then the lift's UP AND DOWN arrows come on and there is no direction. Now it's the first button that you press that determines the direction. It's just how the relay logic system was designed. So the answer to your question, one of the following: 1) The up button is disconnected and wont do anything, or 2) Press up button, the lift will come up, but then after it arrives it will up or down (but as the upper floors are locked off with a key, it won't go up anyway!) so you'll only be able to go down. Hope that makes sense.

+Nevexo (computercam) Hi, perhaps it was your dad that we met up with? :) It would have been great to see both lifts in working condition. My first visit, neither were working. You can hear in the background this old lady having trouble on the stairs coming down (with husband behind her) so wonder why they didn't start up the other lift if one was out of order. We had a tour of the tower, see my next video coming soon or mrphill100 channel. Did you ever get to go into the tower?

+Nevexo (computercam) --According the the listing report ( list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1404607 ) "the tower restaurant was closed in 1989, partly as a result of the cost of meeting current fire escape regulations." looking at the narrow, winding escape stair shown in mrphill100's video this is most definitely a large reason behind the closure. A single escape route is usually only valid for 60 customers (the restaurant could seat twice that), the escape stair was also not that well isolated from the rest of the building (if there was a fire at the base of the tower there would be no escape from the top. As for asbestos, that is to be expected from a building of that age. The listing report states that "The wall faces are covered in corrugated asbestos sheeting" but there may be more used within the tower. Provided the asbestos is not disturbed there is minimal risk to customers and staff, however if it is in poor condition then an, expensive, removal or containment is required. Due to the limited escape access if there was a demand to reopen the top floor (moving some of the facilities up there) it would be necessary to add another fire escape, possibly destroying the aesthetics of the building. The 1960s lifts would also go at this point. It may be possible to construct two escape stairs within the core of the tower if the lifts were moved and reduced in size (getting rid of the service lift and dumb waiters) with two new fire separated stairs constructed. The cheap ground level buildings could then be removed as their use was moved up the tower. The tower is probably my only childhood memory of motorway services! more info on it, and photos from when the tower was in use, at:www.freewebs.com/fortonservices/
@Nevexo287
@Nevexo287 8 жыл бұрын
+Mark H indeed! the tower was closed for fire escape reasons (dad told me lol) as everyone should know you DONT use a lift in an emergency, the only way down was the staircase. Asbestos is all around the building (in a safe amount) but the tower has too much.

What did you reset at 3:42?
@mrmattandmrchay
@mrmattandmrchay 3 жыл бұрын
That's the lift alarm 'memory flag'. So when you press the lift alarm bell, this flag stays in position so you can see which lift the alarm bell was activated from. Afterwards, the slider resets the 'flag'. Very basic 'lift alarm indicator panel' but once activated it doesn't need power for the flag to remain in position, and it's mostly mechanical.
