What a freakin' pleasure to wind up with these on the Fish Files desk.
A delicacy? Sure. From Maine. Yeah. Smoked. Uh-huh.
Words like Alderwood waft into the mix.
My eyes glaze over at not only the mesmerizing words on the label, but the dang ol' price!
On test:
Gulf of Maine Conservas Smoked Eel

A lot of folk don't know that the American Eel was almost fished to extinction in the late 1800s. On the east coast there were multiple Eel canneries and it was a major export item to Europe. American Eel is still fished, but its not a major business now. Most of the catch is exported to Japan.

Smoked canned eel filets in olive oil. I can dig it but it sounds dangerous. That little tin is $40 bucks for a reason. Raising xenomorph's in a black ops government lab using top men is very expensive. Now that you've consumed and absorbed its DNA, gestation has begun and the waiting begins. I'm looking forward to the next video of the alien chest burst caught on camera. You'll be rolling in KZbin cash from all of the millions of views and new subscribers. All my best to you!

I grew up in a town on a river by the ocean, and the eels would come up the river to spawn. When they did, they were so thick the surface of the river roiled with them. A side note, I used to package that Philadelphia Whipped cream cheese!

I’ll never be able to experience this type of eel at $40, but I was fortunate enough to eat smoked eel with Northern California Native Americans years ago . It was really good. They caught them, cleaned them, hung them on racks over a fire. As kids, we occasionally caught lamprey eels in a slough near home, but that was before I knew you could eat them. We just threw them back into the water. Good review Matt.

at one time. I lived near Monticello, NY near the Delaware River. I fished in some of those waters. I ONCE caught a young eel. What a mess. I have never before or since seen so much MUCUS. It wrapped itself up in my monofilament. after a while, I got it loos and it s=was about 15 inches long...way to small to consider cooking. I got it back into the water and gave up for the day. To my knowledge, no one has bred ells in pons or farms. I have heard of people buying glass eels and raising them in ponds. Glass eels, elvers are ungodly expensive as they are a luxury/gourmet dish in Japan
