_Not a fan of Todd. But it was strange to me when gamers and youtubers completely lost their minds at Todd Howard over Starfield rather then Bethesda. Todd Howard doesn't make any of Bethesdas games anymore. He's only a Director of sales and a spokes person for Bethesda. He doesn't have any say or direct control how any Bethesdas games are made. MATTY TODD INTERVIEW?! Never thought I’d hear Todd say salutations on a Matty video. Glad to be a part of the Matty community since the pre Fallout 4 days as it keeps growing
@5226-p1e7 ай бұрын
for a second there i thought this was AI generated, because i never thought matty's videos ever reached Todd, but aparently they have met in real life and he really pays attention to matty's channel. i just hope they also watch the comments, because sometimes matty can be a bit softball with the questions and comments, and not everything matty says we all agree with 100%, sometimes matty spews stuff that the audience doesn't agree with and i don't want Todd or bethesda as a whole to think his reviews fully reflect the fans or the audience, because sometimes matty is kind of soft on bethesda, i understand he's a fan i get that, but it's also fanboyisim barring and that doesn't reflect everyone who watches his videos. but we all want the best from these games, we don't want them to fail. but we also don't want them to try things that would piss us off, and bethesda as a whole will often do stuff that people hate and double down on it. so i really hope they pay attention to the comments as the most critical people often say the best things that would work for their games.

the thing is as a game developer myself i have more respect for people that give critisism that is usable rather than just spout "it sucks" and i think Todd has the same. I mean how many studio heads besides Swen from Larian we rarely see other heads talk like these 2 do. I think its a good think Microsoft brought them into the fold. Because from what i can tell i think Bethesda was really in a financial pickle and Star field was 70% of its time in development under Zenimax still before MS bought them so yeah honestly i think The Elder Scrolls 6 will do just fine. My only complaint is that I can’t have an NPC pilot, where I just plot a course and the Pilot flys there. I seem to recall my beloved TRAVELLER was part of STARFIELD’s vibe, and yeah, it seems to me I can see where like how Skills work; how you can’t Bribe someone without a Bribery Skill. So, if it was part of the whole kit, well I want my week in Jumpspace. :) Glad you gave us back the cool space survival options, and I dig that you can actually play the game with only base Standard gear, admittedly with modding (crafting not dlc mods). If elder scrolls 6 is released in November of 2026, it will be a 15 year time gap from Skyrim. That would be the same time gap which Daggerfall, Morrowind, Obilivion and Skyrim where released (1996 Daggerfall, Marrowind 2002, Obivion 2006, Skyrim 2011). Been loving your games for a long time, and I'm looking forward to TES6. I mean.. I have for 13 years, but I'll let you cook until the dish is done. I've tried getting into ESO several times, even partook in the network tests pre-release back in the day, but MMOs just aren't for me. Even got into card games through TESL (say hi to CVH for me), which thankfully has its servers still running despite unfortunately being no longer supported - but the Elder Scrolls magic found in the mainline games is something I really miss, and I think that rings true for a lot of people who can't get that itch scratched with the MMO or mobile games. All this to say; we do miss it. And I'll continue to be patient, there's a lot of great games to play meanwhile - but I'm looking forward to the day you can share the next chapter with us.

Just in case Todd actually reads this: When I was 10 years old, I wasn’t very well liked in school. I had just moved and I was nerdy and quiet and was getting bullied, my dad was in and out of the hospital, and my mom was really emotional. However, I had a neighbor who was in high school who kind of took me under his wing and showed me Fallout 3. There were so many days that year where I’d go over to see him right after school so I could play Fallout 3. I was so enamored with the lore and that I could do pretty much anything I could imagine. I ended up saving up enough money from various birthday and Christmas cards to buy my own PS3 and a copy of Fallout 3. For the first time, I played Fallout 3 by myself on my own character, and had the opportunity to truly immerse myself in the game. I played everyday after school until I had to go to bed. When I got to the point in the story where James dies, it was the same time in real life that my real life father died. Fallout 3 helped 11-year-old me grieve. It formed me in many ways. I’ve been a Bethesda fan ever since. From the bottom of my heart, thank you-you and everyone at Bethesda did a good turn in helping this awkward 11-year-old kid that was going through tough times. I cannot thank you enough. Your games have stuck with me and inspired so much beauty and awe in my heart.

This must have been a dream come true for you Matty, I bet you would have never thought this would happen back in the Fallout 4 speculation days, and you did a great job with the selection of questions. Todd also answered these questions very well. I particularly enjoyed how he answered the question about criticism. I love Fallout more than anything (if we aren't counting the people in my life lol), it's great to hear him acknowledge that when people criticize their work, it is from a place of love for the franchise, and because they want it to be better. It can be harsh criticism, but knowing Todd is aware that it isn't just blind meaningless hate and instead rooted in peoples'love for Fallout makes me happy.

I get very concerned over the amount of over-the-top insults that are levied against them. We can have our preferences and critiques, but the ridiculous amount of misinformation or outright disrespect had me sad for him and his team. As he said and the same goes to you, musicians, actors, directors, content creators, etc., you put years into your craft. Many of us need to remember that, fall back and realize we're speaking with or about real humans with families. Just very glad you were able to check in on the morale, mental and emotional wellbeing. Fantastic video, Matty! A big shout out to Todd for coming on here. His passion for these franchises is clearly evident. You can tell how much he embraces his role as a caretaker for these massive IPs. My biggest suggestion would be having the folks at Bethesda really lean into game preservation and modernizing their games, and welcoming newer players to the classics. Games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and New Vegas are in desperate need for a remaster and remake. As part of being a steward for these franchises, I'd love to see more resources invested in keeping these games relevant. Fallout 76 and ESO are great, but the reality is a lot of people are just always going to gravitate towards the traditional Bethesda SP experience. Also, shout out for the success of the Fallout TV show! Love the collaboration with Jonathan Nolan! Bravo.

It's not curing your depression, it's escapism that will always be there if you're not doing something about it. Curing your depression would involve targeting root causes, exercising, sleeping well, eating well, having a healthy social life, therapy, not using social media, etc. Avoiding problems by playing videogames is not a solution, it's a unhealthy coping mechanisms like using drugs.
