_Not a fan of Todd. But it was strange to me when gamers and youtubers completely lost their minds at Todd Howard over Starfield rather then Bethesda. Todd Howard doesn't make any of Bethesdas games anymore. He's only a Director of sales and a spokes person for Bethesda. He doesn't have any say or direct control how any Bethesdas games are made. The only thing he has some direction of is the Fallout TV because the writers and directors wanted his input._

MATTY TODD INTERVIEW?! Never thought I’d hear Todd say salutations on a Matty video. Glad to be a part of the Matty community since the pre Fallout 4 days as it keeps growing
@5226-p1e
@5226-p1e 7 ай бұрын
for a second there i thought this was AI generated, because i never thought matty's videos ever reached Todd, but aparently they have met in real life and he really pays attention to matty's channel. i just hope they also watch the comments, because sometimes matty can be a bit softball with the questions and comments, and not everything matty says we all agree with 100%, sometimes matty spews stuff that the audience doesn't agree with and i don't want Todd or bethesda as a whole to think his reviews fully reflect the fans or the audience, because sometimes matty is kind of soft on bethesda, i understand he's a fan i get that, but it's also fanboyisim barring and that doesn't reflect everyone who watches his videos. but we all want the best from these games, we don't want them to fail. but we also don't want them to try things that would piss us off, and bethesda as a whole will often do stuff that people hate and double down on it. so i really hope they pay attention to the comments as the most critical people often say the best things that would work for their games.

This comment really takes away from the epic interview. Todd most likely chose Matty because he is most definitely one of the most objective video game critics left on KZbin these days. The other popular KZbinrs either come across as simps or haters, depending on how big the simp or hate trains is for the game they are reviewing at the time.

the thing is as a game developer myself i have more respect for people that give critisism that is usable rather than just spout "it sucks" and i think Todd has the same. I mean the guy doesnt release a mid game because he hates making games right? he is doing his best and sometimes you hit or you mis it happens and it sucks but he wants to improve and it really shows. I mean how many studio heads besides Swen from Larian we rarely see other heads talk like these 2 do. I think its a good think Microsoft brought them into the fold. Because from what i can tell i think Bethesda was really in a financial pickle and Star field was 70% of its time in development under Zenimax still before MS bought them so yeah honestly i think The Elder Scrolls 6 will do just fine. They dont have to worry about budgets anymore and a overlord like Zenimax pressuring them

Yeah, Todd, if you are reading this, thank you so much, this is the game I have been waiting for since you said you wanted to do a space game. I love it, it’s exactly…okay, mostly what I wanted. My only complaint is that I can’t have an NPC pilot, where I just plot a course and the Pilot flys there. I seem to recall my beloved TRAVELLER was part of STARFIELD’s vibe, and yeah, it seems to me I can see where like how Skills work; how you can’t Bribe someone without a Bribery Skill. So, if it was part of the whole kit, well I want my week in Jumpspace. :) Glad you gave us back the cool space survival options, and I dig that you can actually play the game with only base Standard gear, admittedly with modding (crafting not dlc mods). So, yeah, feel good about your latest game. I am enjoying my TL-A space adventures.

If he wouldn't get memed he wouldn't be famous for what he is actually doing. He could have been a random creative director or developer sitting somewhere in a corner of a room doing his stuf silently but he decided to step in front of the audience instead also as a spokesman. If you do this you have to live and deal with the consequences, it's a natural thing. But as many people still enjoy the games Bethesda produces he certainly does a good job - if he wouldn't create value for the company as a whole he wouldn't be in business anymore since ages or BGS would have had to close the doors.

If elder scrolls 6 is released in November of 2026, it will be a 15 year time gap from Skyrim. That would be the same time gap which Daggerfall, Morrowind, Obilivion and Skyrim where released (1996 Daggerfall, Marrowind 2002, Obivion 2006, Skyrim 2011). I understand Bethesdas desire for redirecting resoures to try new things, but DAMN I sure miss the elder scrolls! Elder scrolls is the GOAT of high fantasy RPGs imo. @@OggieDoggie I’ve been a subscriber to Marty since around 2015. Todd I believe sent him a letter which showed that he clearly has seen Marty’s videos, he also apparently is quite knowledgeable when it comes to KZbinrs as he when interviewed by the likes of angry Joe and others he clearly knows a decent amount of information about them. I may not like Todd’s design philosophy as much as I did in the past but I believe that he genuinely wants to make gamers happy as he himself was a gamer back in the 90s and in interviews of recent he seems to open to criticism of his past works. Granted I didn’t like the direction of starfield nor do I like the more mainstream lining of recent Bethesda games I believe he does wish to make games for players. Todd has from past interviews with devs, employees and others is well liked even if they don’t share his views on game design.

Obviously people won't be able to play a new game if you don't release one so if they want to play Elder Scrolls, they have to play an OLD Elder Scrolls. I've played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim a lot in the last 13 years but once you've played them for 5000 hours each, you really start to feel fulfilled and want a new Elder Scrolls game with more story, new lore and new locations. Mods are fine for that, but nothing beats an ACTUAL official entry to the main game.

This is my favorite Todd Howard interview that I've seen online. It's cool to have a longform interview done by someone who is A) a long-time Bethesda fan who B) is developing his own game, giving him some perspective, and C) willing to ask more or less any question and push back against half-answers. He's one of my favorite public-facing creatives in the games industry, but so many of his appearances are spent fielding questions that he's answered a thousand times before. This was refreshing. I hope he does more like this, I want to hear way more about his philosophy re: franchise management and identity in particular.

PHENOMENAL INTERVIEW. Not just softball questions; really good, thoughtful guidance for the discussion on one side. And on the other, not just a bunch of side stepping and nothing answers. Really makes you appreciate the level of experience and respect on both sides for the creators involved and the communities who show up for the content. Also interviews like this are a great reminder to something I always stress: it’s not just people who play games, but people who make games. It easy to get lost in the sauce of firing complaints at faceless corporations, but behind the dev studio logos on the games we all love are people. Awesome stuff, thank you both

Hello Todd. Really appreciate you taking the time to sit down with Matty and I hope this won't be your last appearance on the channel. Been loving your games for a long time, and I'm looking forward to TES6. I mean.. I have for 13 years, but I'll let you cook until the dish is done. I've tried getting into ESO several times, even partook in the network tests pre-release back in the day, but MMOs just aren't for me. Even got into card games through TESL (say hi to CVH for me), which thankfully has its servers still running despite unfortunately being no longer supported - but the Elder Scrolls magic found in the mainline games is something I really miss, and I think that rings true for a lot of people who can't get that itch scratched with the MMO or mobile games. All this to say; we do miss it. And I'll continue to be patient, there's a lot of great games to play meanwhile - but I'm looking forward to the day you can share the next chapter with us.

Just in case Todd actually reads this: When I was 10 years old, I wasn’t very well liked in school. I had just moved and I was nerdy and quiet and was getting bullied, my dad was in and out of the hospital, and my mom was really emotional. However, I had a neighbor who was in high school who kind of took me under his wing and showed me Fallout 3. There were so many days that year where I’d go over to see him right after school so I could play Fallout 3. I was so enamored with the lore and that I could do pretty much anything I could imagine. I ended up saving up enough money from various birthday and Christmas cards to buy my own PS3 and a copy of Fallout 3. For the first time, I played Fallout 3 by myself on my own character, and had the opportunity to truly immerse myself in the game. I played everyday after school until I had to go to bed. When I got to the point in the story where James dies, it was the same time in real life that my real life father died. Fallout 3 helped 11-year-old me grieve. It formed me in many ways. I’ve been a Bethesda fan ever since. From the bottom of my heart, thank you-you and everyone at Bethesda did a good turn in helping this awkward 11-year-old kid that was going through tough times. I cannot thank you enough. Your games have stuck with me and inspired so much beauty and awe in my heart.

Todd also answered these questions very well. I particularly enjoyed how he answered the question about criticism. I love Fallout more than anything (if we aren't counting the people in my life lol), it's great to hear him acknowledge that when people criticize their work, it is from a place of love for the franchise, and because they want it to be better. Fantastic video, Matty! A big shout out to Todd for coming on here. His passion for these franchises is clearly evident. You can tell how much he embraces his role as a caretaker for these massive IPs. My biggest suggestion would be having the folks at Bethesda really lean into game preservation and modernizing their games, and welcoming newer players to the classics. Games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and New Vegas are in desperate need for a remaster and remake. As part of being a steward for these franchises, I'd love to see more resources invested in keeping these games relevant. Fallout 76 and ESO are great, but the reality is a lot of people are just always going to gravitate towards the traditional Bethesda SP experience. Also, shout out for the success of the Fallout TV show! Love the collaboration with Jonathan Nolan! Bravo.

@@San_VitoDo you know how rabid the Elder Scrolls fanbase can be? They probably announced ES6 after announcing Starfield just so that fanbase wont start clawing each other over knowing BGS’s next game is going to be Starfield and not an Elder Scrolls sequel

@@abnormalitiesinreality6649 He has said exactly that before. He didn't want to release that trailer. It was just there to soothe the savage beasts.

As an old sales person i learned fast that the more emotions someone has, good or bad, the more invested they are on your product, the easier it is to sell to them. Bethesda Game Studios bring alot of emotions on people, it's great to hear that they have the long haul mentality, since thats what their games has become for most player (me with 3k hours on fallout 4) Keep up the good work, but damn its hard to wait for next release : )

16 times the LIES. Keep lying, Todd. Maybe one day someone will believe you. Also, just an FYI. The Creation Engine is old. I just wanted to let you know that. 🤓

This interview is genuine, relaxed and informative. And you guys seem to just nerd out about Bathestada and their games. Really nice of the boss himself to take time and effort to talk to us all. Thank you both for this gem
