At least in British English, I may potentially say 'I met a cat'. This has a specific nuance in that I may have a special affinity with the cat, I absolutely wasn't expecting to meet the cat, or I interact with the cat for a longer period than expected. But yes, 99% of time, I would 'see a cat'. Additionally, when I went to the adoption centre, I met my cat, because the meeting was prearranged. I didn't randomly come across the cat.

Marina is my compatriot, I envy her English with white envy, no wonder she makes a lot of mistakes, by the way she is also quite a charismatic woman. In Russian, I also often use non-standard phrases, for example. Вместо того чтобы сказать " как дела? " я могу сказать " как ваше ничего? " и т.д. в таком духе. There's nothing wrong with pronouncing the 'T" in the phrase "Why Wouldn't I be? .Yes, You would sound more natural not pronouncing it , however any time you divorce your pronunciation from the spelling of a word, so much the worse for your language. In the Spanish language spelling dictates pronunciation and articulation. That is why educated Spanish speakers seldom need subtitles when watching movies from other Spanish speaking countries. However If you live in The United States You would be better served by following Kevin and Liza's advice. I'm saying this because on one occasion one of my cousins was dating a Scottish young man at one family reunion in Florida. When this young man spoke ,none of us could understand a word he was saying. This is also the reason why Sean Connery had to take elocution lessons before he could become James Bond.
