Hi Mr Paul. Jason here. I am sat in my kitchen watching your you tube videos, cos my Labrador has stolen and eaten a frozen shepherd’s pie that was in a plastic takeaway container. She has eaten the lot,including the container.She is now in emergency surgery. I’m waiting to hear if she’s gonna be ok. She’s my baby and I’m in bits. However your videos are keeping my mind off things
@MrPaulsPantry Жыл бұрын
I'm very sorry to hear that, I know exactly how you feel. I have rescue dogs and they were all starving to death when I found them and they stole and ate absolutely everything in sight. Fortunately the have now settled down to eat normally. I wish your baby well Jason.

I am from Manchester, the city that is the home of the meat & potato pie and I used to wolf them down from the chippie when I was young. As you say, the machine-made pies are now almost entirely potato with hardly any meat, so I started making my own. I will try your version soon.

I am from Manchester too, used to come home from school and have a meat and potato pie from local bakery. I have been making good pies for the last 42 years here in Sacramento, Ca and family love them. Thanks the Bee City, Manchester.

I also bought a temperature gage for my oven and found out it was 50 degrees off. Now that I have started using both I can't believe what an improvement there is in my cooking and especially the baking. Thank you for all the helpful information you have provided. 🥰

I love how your videos explain "techniques" which I did not always know. Using the back of the knife to cut the pastry edge. Part cook the potatoes in the first stage. Cool meat mixture completely. Great tips. I was disappointed I could not savour the flavour like you did at the end but will correct that when I make it myself. I was hoping to see a video of the making of your short crust pastry; the link goes to a printed recipe only. Great video though, thank you.

Hi Mr Paul. I love a good pie. Too many times in the past I've bought ones that were more pastry than filling or found that the main ingredient (chicken, beef etc.) was almost non-existent compared to veg or spud. A recent rib roast yielded plenty of seconds so I mixed up some veg and gravy and made individual shortcrust pies and puff pastry slices 😃

Hi Philip. Thank you for your very interesting comment. I personally always use lard only in my pastry, however, I have encourage people tp try these old tried and tested recipe that I used in my bakery both in the UK and also here in Spain. Although I'm originally from Leeds, before I came to liver here in Granada and open my bakery 25 years ago, my late wife and I lived in Gt, Houghton, Nr. Barnsley, I'm approaching 80 and still use many of the old baking tins I started my first bakery with 60+ years ago. Lovely to hear from you Philip. Look afta thee sen.

Hi Mr Paul. I just discovered you! I am enjoying your videos very much. I'm an American but have been trying my hand at hand pies. I am working on this recipe right now but it seems your meat as it is stewing is more , how do I say it, liquid? Mine seems thick at this point before adding potatoes. Where did I go wrong?? Lol. Going to continue and we shall see what it turns out like tomorrow 😲😲😲😁
@MrPaulsPantry Жыл бұрын
Hi Betsy, it sounds like you have had the heat a little too high and the liquid has evaporated. Best if you keep an eye on it during the cooking and if necessary and a little more water. All meat is different and some take longer to cook than others. Do please let me know how it tastes..
@betsyacosta6773 Жыл бұрын
@@MrPaulsPantry I redid it with a meat that had a bit more fat to it, turned down the heat and it was Amazing!! I can't believe I made it haha no one in my family can either. Your videos are wonderful and if you follow your recipe food will turn out good 😁 Thank you for the advice.
