Loved it. As a motorcycle desert racer, The BAJA was, and still is for me The Super Bowl of off road racing. Never got to compete, but still look forward to someday driving down the course. Thanks for showin this historic film.

Great video! Thanks for sharing this. The best thing in it? Ak Miller's 1967 Ranchero with Cragars! I don't know him but it just shows you how much the racing down there has changed the roads. Thanks again!

Great video for the NORRA Mexican 1000, which is now a vintage flavored race, (has classes for vintage trophy winning vehicles and new vehicles). This years race starts in 2 days, from Mexicali.

Wish there was a version of this movie for the 1972 running of the Mexican 1000. My father was class winner for Baja Bugs. It would be nice to see some video of him in his racing days before I was born.

What a great thing. It's amazing how stock some of them look, compared to today's desert beasts. Of all the types of auto racing, that's the one I would've most liked to do.

I just went down from Riverside to La Paz and back up again and I can say that while improvements have been made there are still many parts that are still “day one”. Not that it was part of the race back then, but in particular going over highway 5 from Guerrero Negro to San Felipe is still really sketchy.

It must've been absolutely brutal for the motorcycles. The old suspensions, tires, seats, etc weren't really optimum for racing in the desert. Iron men (and women) in those days! Now they have entire huge teams for support, big sponsorship, GPS, massively bright lighting, soft suspensions (except class 11). Must've been crazy fun in those days.
