Keith is the distillation of a certain trait in every man. I feel the Keith strong in me and it's a great benefit to see it summed up in a character like this. I can give it a name, and in doing so hopefully keep it in check when I don't want to share the guidebook with my wife.

It’s the pedantic urge for stasis
@stevem815 Жыл бұрын
@@user-hu3iy9gz5j maybe for some people, for me i find it's more that i get a bit obsessive about what I'm doing and start to see other people who don't share the obsession as being a bit lacking and i can get frustrated and fall into disregarding their feelings or thinking that they're incompetent. Obviously the film is satirizing and exaggerating Keith's personality type, but there is a problem there which is very hard to solve, which is the conflict between people who are quite meticulous, highly sensitive etc. who want to order and understand everything and the rest of the world who generally aren't that interested. It's hard to describe the problem without sounding judgemental, but I think the Keith's of the world often suffer from having their sensitivity turned up to 11, which makes them capable of producing amazing things, but also makes a lot of things in the 'normal' world hard to deal with and they end up very irritable and isolated, or worse.

@stevem815 Жыл бұрын
@@user-hu3iy9gz5j yes, but i think the crucial point is that they want the space to appreciate or create genuinely beautiful and fascinating things. It's like trying to learn a Bach concerto while someone else in your house blasts rap music, except at a low level, all day, every day. It's ok if you have the means to get away from it all and go into those creative/intellectual pursuits, but for people stuck in the rat race it can be pretty torturous. I think a lot of them basically end up self medicating to create a bit of a buffer, which obviously just makes everything way worse long term.
