@@bioLarzen The explicit reason I thought Mr. Puzzle should not cover the Inside3 puzzles was that I thought the resulting video would be boring (and even the puzzle creator admitted that the puzzle made for poor youtube content). Obviously I could just not watch such a video. However, the bigger reason I want Mr. Puzzle to not cover the Inside3 puzzle is that I assume that that Mr. Puzzle will create some other video (which hopefully I'd like more) instead. Even taking it for granted that Mr. Puzzle will solve such Puzzles whether he videos them or not, youtube solves require more effort than recreational solves.

Interesting design choice to not use springs for the [spoiler] element: seems like the weird resistance from those pads might feel like unnecessary forcing movement, and the self-correcting resistance from springs would feel more like a natural puzzle component?

I love these puzzles and think they're very creative. I'd love to be able to give one of these puzzles to my son for Christmas. Unfortunately they're so expensive that it is not even close to an option. At the time of this comment the cheapest of the four puzzles is selling for $160 USD. With the water tap being the most expensive at $340 USD. From a consumer feedback perspective, these puzzles would have to drop in price by upwards of 300% before I would even consider these at the max of my budget for a puzzle.

I think, one of the major points of this puzzle are the nuts at the end of the bolts. If you just screw the bolts in and out, you think the ball can not pass the bolt, but it could. It is the nuts, that prevent the ball from passing. Once that is clear, it makes it clear, how the ball can pass at the top of the bolt (otherwise there would be no way to pass the bolt and your mind gets stuck...)

I know in the past you've said people go on about ball bearing vs bearing ball. Here's a way to thing about it, the phrase is describing form and function, in that order. It is bearing that is in the form of a ball. A ball bearing. This ordering can be seen in the rest of tool naming in English. Philips head screwdriver. Ball-peen hammer. Chain saw. Circular Saw. Tape measure. You even provide an example later in the video. Allen wrench. Each of these has the form before the function. When you say bearing ball it sounds like you're reading from a shipping manifest. Bearing, Ball.
@cheekibreeki9043 жыл бұрын
You're assuming that "bearing" is a noun. But why? What prevents it from being an adjective? Because if it is, then it *is* a bearing ball. That is, a ball that is bearing a load in a mechanism. A load-bearing ball. A bearing ball. The same logic works on all your examples, too. Especially with "circular saw", where the first word is an obvious adjective. As wacky as this logic may seem, it's orders of magnitude better than having a whole mechanism and a single part of it that both go by the same name, IMO.

@@Mr.Puzzle , I thought about it more [I just woke up after all lol ] 🤣☕ Forging is part of the machining process (as is polishing). The Forging area was in the back of the Machine Shop in school after all (as were the polishing wheels). [[I think the polishing/buffing wheels were near the lathes - not sure -- that coulda' been Wood Shop -- I don't recall where they were in Machine Shop lol ]] "Machined Steel Ball" denotes(means/says) all of these things aiming towards that high tolerance that Ball is. "Machined Steel Ball" shows that it's not just an ordinary Steel Ball layin' there. It(Machined) shows that that Ball is all of those things (the forging, the polishing and whatever else is involved ) making that a high toleranced smooth round ball to our present technology. I think ya can get away with "Machined" (meaning each and every ball isn't stuck on a machine and machined from start to finish). And why is the word "Machined":startin' to look funny?! Without knowing the size of the bearing, I thought for certain that the trick was aligning the 2nd bolt's thumb 'wings' a specific direction. I thought that they drilled a small hole through the bolt that would allow the ball bearing to actually physically pass through the stem of the bolt. Clearly their intended solution is far more elegant. And now that I see the size of the bearing, I am pretty sure the bearing is too large (or the bolt diameter is too small) for it to pass through such a hole.

I can't help but think that the puzzle maker missed one more gate to overcome. Had he put a notch or a hole in the copper 90-degree fitting that would allow the ball to slide through only if it was in the right rotation the puzzle would have had just one more degree of difficulty. I had a sort of idea like that, except that's a more interesting idea than what I thought of. Musical brass instruments with valves follow that principle.
