I can confirm his "devilishly clever" attribute - a master craftsman and devious mind. I have seen the production line for this puzzle but I don't have one of my own. Was truly an honour Brian and Sue. I've been a customer of theirs for over 20 years and reconnected with them just recently (3 weeks ago?). Still have my collection which is mostly his. I just found your channel a week ago and I've been binge watching your puzzle videos. They're so entertaining! I LOVE the intros. It really shows how much time, effort, care, and thought you put into your videos and for the entertainment of the puzzles. I love writing out backstories. My ex-husband was playing DC Universe Online and wanted me to create a backstory for his character. I did and he was so excited about it that he posted it on a few of the forums and received a lot of positive response from it. Giving a character, or an object, a backstory really brings it to life :) Love the videos, love your enthusiasm, and love the entertainment! Thank you for bringing awesome content!

I'm curious if the magnet on the bottom of the cylinder can be used either to pull those little spiky pins out from the top of the puzzle. If he gave you the tools to disassemble the top part of the well, I would suggest utilizing them for either crafting or using the individual pieces as a tool. They are all shaped slightly different which leads me to believe you should reinsert them into where they came from. Obviously in a different orientation. Which would activate a pressure switch or a push down lever. It's beneath the maze i would guess. Food for thought. I hope you come back soon as it's been a few months :)

Just watched this, so frustrating when you can’t figure it out! My thought is to take the two brass sides that were originally holding up the silver bar, flip them upside down and stick them back down into the square holes on the sides. Seems like the other end is smaller and could slide down in there. I’m guessing the top part that originally had the string in it will come into play too, that seems like such a unique shape for it not to be needed for anything. Also, the string was very short, which is weird. Does the string fit in the little holes on the sides? Can you use the string to dangle in a hole, or tie it around one of the other pieces somehow? (It’s hard to see how long it is). Hope these ideas help, can’t wait to see the solve!

Put a pin or something in one of the two holes of the brass cylinder, then invert it and insert it upside down. The wooden bottom plate has a notch in it - if you can get the pin in the cylinder hole inside that, can you unscrew it, releasing the magnet at the bottom?

use one or both of the vertical brass posts that carried the cross piece to poke inside the square holes, I think they may act as levers against inner release catches, I do think the bottom does separate from the body.

It looks like 2 parts of the well pillars that were outside of the well (the ones that are shaped like halves of hourglass) could fit really neatly into the holes that were holding the pillars. I would try to spin, hide the metal rods inside pillar holes and insert halves of hourglass into both pillar holes to keep metal rods both hidden in place. Maybe then you can do some other interaction with a puzzle which you can't do right now since the rods after the spin + any puzzle move pop back out again, and with this idea they won't.
