Hey! Just wanted to say I actually have made a puzzle like this before following the same design so I know the mechanism. It consists of six interlocking panels with weights. The panels move freely on the inside of each side, so when you tilt them the right direction gravity drags them down and they unlock the next panel. When all panels are unlocked upto the one hidden behind 5 it unlocks the top of the box.

I saw a similar kaleidoscope on my honeymoon. It was priced at $20,000. I asked what made it so expensive, and the shop owner handed it to me and said, "Take a look". Found it was full of cut diamonds, rubies, emeralds, in that dark field format. It was awesome. It was a piece of jewelry with great sparkle. Looked quite plain on the outside with a glossy black enamel finish.

The numbering of the dices as you spotted were wrong but that certainly was the giveaway to solve this. Yes 1 is opposite to 6, 2 to 5, 3 to 4 and you’ll figure the totals are always 7..that’s how a genuine dice should be but for this puzzle with a stash compartment..oh my😅

First thing I noticed. That 3/6 & 1/4 was driving me nuts 😩
@yotelex4 жыл бұрын
Then it wouldn't be possible to run through the sequence of 1 to 6. If 3 was opposite of 4, then how do you turn the cube? The mechanism works because you are only turning a face at a time, going from 3 to 4 (if they were on opposite sides) would involve two turns and therefore there's no clue how you should make the turn. Plus, the clue for the puzzle was the fact the numbers didn't follow the traditional numbering on the die faces (where they traditionally add up to 7).
@johansten79764 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind, there *are* dice that are made for counting rather rolling, where the numbers are sequential around the die. Admittedly it's more common for dice with more sides, such as 10 or 20, but the doubling die in Backgammon follows the same idea.

If you think of the 6 as a motorway (highway).. then if the 3 is peeling off to the left (the correct way), then make a V with that 2 and the 3, then have the 1 sit in the V , then just make opposite sides add up to seven, then Bob's your uncle .. if you wish to test your die (one dice), then stir some salt into a vessel of water ( perhaps your Bubba cup), then spin your dice in the water (unless it's made of aluminum, obviously : but if it stops more than 100 times from 600 tries on one number, then it is not a fair dice and should not be used for 'craps' (unless you were aware that it was biased , obviously). ..
