Dargonhuman it was not :) there’s a spring pushing against the one bolt that can make it annoying to put the bolt back once removed.

Useless fact of the day: I grew up 175kms from Yosemite where Ansel Adams took most of his pics-the famous ones anyways. It’s a amazing place. Fun puzzle, I really like this type of puzzle

It must be very gratifying for a designer to see Mr Puzzle think his way through to a solution rather than watching someone behaving like a toddler having a temper tantrum and just banging things on the table till something breaks. Some people treat Life the same way, you know... ;-)

“Ball bearing” is a compound noun. It is a single word. Plural ball bearings. In the puzzle context you could also call them bbs (bee bees) even though they are not necessarily bb-sized nor intended to be shot.
@wbfaulk4 жыл бұрын
The question is whether "ball bearing" can only be used to refer to the whole bearing mechanism, or if it can also refer to the individual metal spheres. The dictionary says it can be used for both things: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ball%20bearing
@pbp67414 жыл бұрын
wbfaulk Generally, specified as loose ball bearings or as steel balls, nylon balls, etc. Or again, when context is clear, BBs.
@ezion674 жыл бұрын
@@pbp6741 You get one guess what BBs is shorthand for. LOL Technically you're kind of right, but almost everyone miscalls bearing-balls as ball-bearings.
@jimhood12024 жыл бұрын
@@ezion67 I agree. It should be bearing balls but conventions says the opposite. Then we have ball race for assembled bearing etc, etc. The finer points can be discussed by engineers and mechanics but the general public is happy with short hand
@pbp67414 жыл бұрын
ezion67 Figure I already answered that one when I said, “... not necessarily bb-sized nor intended to be SHOT.”

Anyone who calls a single ball (steel, plastic or glass) a ball bearing doesn't know what they are talking about. A ball bearing is an assembly that uses several "bearing balls" captured between an inner race and an outer race. Not all metal balls are suitable for use in bearings so it is probably best to just call them balls and eliminate the bearing ball/ball bearing debate.
