I love the man's stories. I'm 63 and - I've listened to most of his stories more than once. Some several times. Garrison's stories touch a nerve in the human heart. Thank You for all you have done. Live Long - Live Long and Prosper.

Garrison Keillor is an amazing ordinary person who has been making ordinary people smile and laugh and sing with glee for 40 years. My life is better because of his positive stories and his rich voice and his love for people just like me. Bless you, Garrison. 30 years of entertainment from you every week has made my world a better place.

Thanks Gary, for your gift of humor and insight! I was a faithful listener of your morning show with Jim Ed and getting into your Prairie Home show in Minneapolis in the early years for about $3 with a student fee statement. Meeting you at Malmerg's General in Marine was an unexpected highlight. Thanks for all the great chuckles and memories!

Music like this is not found on today's music lists. PHC was one-of-a-kind.

With all of its glories and all of its faults, the past was a bittersweet waltz.

At 5:05 That "nickle harp" has a very wistful, ancient sound, like it's echoing through centuries of human struggle for self-expression. It's so beautiful it makes me want to cry.

I was listening while doing chores in another room and I didn't hear him announce it. At first I wondered if I was hearing bag pipes; a little later, sounds like a Hurdy-Gurdy. Yes, very soulful sound.

Garrison always had the best of music also on his show. None of them could be faulted . Garrison is a great singer also.

6:39 does anyone know if the nickel harp is related to the hurdy-gurdy.

They are similar. The hurdy gurdy has keys, but instead of a bow, the sound is made with a rosin coated wheel turned with a crank. It also has drone strings, which make it sound like a bagpipe. The nyckelharpa has no drones, but it has unbowed sympathetic strings underneath, like the hardanger fiddle, that sound when certain notes are played on the main strings above them. Modern nyckelharpas have chromatic scales, so one can play Bach, if so desired. The long(er) string length contributes to the haunting beauty of its music. There are lots and lots of players of both instruments to be found on KZbin. I like both, but my heart belongs to the nyckelharpa.
