I never worked on a car other than changing the light bulbs. Dealership wanted $570 to replace sparkplugs. Bought the magnet plug socket and extentions, 6 sparkplugs iridium. Two small pouches antilock and silicone. $110 dollars later and this man's video. Took my time and I finished everything in like an hour and something. So here's to the dealership 🖕 and thanks to this gentleman. BTW I pulled out those back Fuse boxes and helped give me some room

Great video. For anyone watching who’s thinking, “I can’t do this job. There is no room to work or get anything out,” it’s actually not as tight as it looks. I was surprised, as I thought getting the coil packs out would be a lot more difficult. With the exception of the rear one closest to the driver side, the rest were easy. I used a 6” wobble extension for the whole job, which might have made life a little easier, but I’m not sure it was necessary to use on all of them. To find the rear ones, I just leaned on the engine and felt around for the 10-mm nut. The whole thing took maybe 45 min at most.

This video was instrumental in assisting me in changing the plugs on my 2012 Odyssey. The front 3 were easy. The back 3 were more difficult but not still doable. I started with the " hardest" one in the back. It was just a matter of moving the rubber tube down to slide out the parts. One thing I did not have that would have made the rear plugs easier to remove was a long handled ratchet. I only had the normal size. Gues I'll have to buy a long one. It took me about 3 hours as I just took my time. I did one plug at a time as it was my first time. My Odyssey now runs so smooth. I was having starting issues. Not anymore. Thank you !

I just did my wife's '15 van today. Probably took under 2 hrs, but I kept watching the video, taking my time, and trying to fish out the 10mm socket that fell when I was putting the front coil bolt nut back on. The front ones came out fine after 99K. Was trying to get it done so if there was any leaks, I was still under my 100K extended warranty. :D That said, the back ones were more of a pain. The middle rear coil was blocked by a hose and pipe. I removed those electrical connectors that you see on the video off, so I had more space for my hand/wrists to fit in there. I also had bought the 6" wobble and a flex head ratchet at a local store. The wobble one fit great for the back. The ratchet, not so great as it was a bit long and wasn't as high a tooth setting, so it kept hitting the top of the compartment for the middle and driver side one. IT worked better for the passenger side one. I ended up using a smaller ratchet that wasn't flex head. I found hand tightening with the wobble, THEN putting the ratchet on was best. That middle rear coil, trying to put it back in, actually ripped the top of the rubber (on the end but towards the top of the coil) a bit. I pulled it out a few times to make sure there was no issue, and just reinstalled it. So overall, other than the high cost of the NGK plugs nowadays, it was pretty fine. Thanks

Thanks for the great video man! Helped me get it done. Used a deep 5/8 spark plug socket with rubber fitting inside to hold plug secure while replacing them. I used a half inch socket set; 2x swivel joints with a 3" extension in between with the plug socket on the end. Easily snaked into the holes. Tough plugs were: front right- hold hood latch up to get out; back center- tight fit- flex up to right; back right- flex hose away. Number one thing for me was don't drop the nuts or tools; move very slowly and deliberately so you don't bump something and drop what you're holding. Thanks for all the help man!

Dropped my wrench down the back on my last plug. Found an alternative to finish the job. Then found a big dip to jump the van off of. I was then happy to hear the wrench skipping along the pavement 👍

Thank for this. Ive had my 2016 Odyssey for a little less than 2 years and about 3 weeks ago she went bananas, all dash lights flashing and running rough. I took her to a shop and paid $497.00 for 1 bad sparkplug and coil. 😐 Then, 2 weeks later same situation. @@johandurham8512 local shop. only place I could get it in and fixed asap. Which didn't really fix it but for a about a week anyway. In the end we ended up getting a vcm turner which I didn't know anything about before coming across info on the honda odyssey forums. It's been worth every penny. I would definately recommend.

I just replaced the plugs on my 2013 Honda Odyssey. Found this video to be very helpful in refreshing my memory from the 1999 Odyssey. A couple of things though.... The front side is easy. The only problem I had was getting the coil wire connector off the coil. The looked so easy on the video but really hard in the real world. My trick that made it easy was to use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently squeeze the connector in the spot that releases the connector and then pull gently. It came right off then. Evidently Mr Ranger knows exactly where to squeeze. The back side are much harder then the front due to all the congestion, you can't see what you are doing, and those sharp coolant hose clamps. I could not get the coil wire connector off until I took the coil nut off and pulled the coil assembly out so I could see the connector and get the needle nose pliers on it. Then it came offeasily. The whole project took just over 2 hours and I think if I did it again I could cut an hour off. I saved about $325 doing this myself. All it cost was the plugs (had all the tools required) and a little skin. Thanks MrRangerZr1 !

Just be careful using pliers on the connectors, sometimes you can break the connector.

@@MrRangerZr1 I was very gentle for that reason! Evidently my big fingers combined with the small? Target that releases the connector to slide off gave me problems. Using the needle nose gently did the trick as it came off easily then. Interestingly after 103,000 miles the old plugs compared to the new ones still looked fine. I have noticed no change in performance or MPG after driving several hundred miles. I had read some internet comments on other blogs about how the cylinder disabling was causing major problems and folks were disabling it with aftermarket devices that fooled the ECM into thinking the engine had not quite reached operating temperature. The plugs all looked the same to me. I'm old enough to remember changing plugs every few thousand miles. Nice to get over 100,000 easily on a set even though they are hard to change! Outstanding tutorial. After watching, I fearlessly replaced the cause of my misfire- the plug for cylinder #2- its the middle one in the rear. I used a "lesser" Autolite iridium for this as a temporary fix. I have a full set of Denso Iridium arriving soon, but will not install them until the S-VCM controller arrives. I am 100% certain that the VCM system is flawed and must be disabled to prevent this misfire nonsense from happening. The van gets ridiculously good fuel mileage so if MPG takes a slight hit for the sake of dependability, so be it. I used a 6" wobble extension and a 5/8" spark plug socket with the rubber insert. Thank you.

When I had my 2004 Odyssey, I did the plugs no problem. For my 2017, instead of a 6" wobble, I used (2) 3" socket extensions. Not sure if your Odyssey was an LX or a different year, but it seemed like I had a much tighter area to work with, lots of hoses, AC lines to deal with. Almost gave up before I did the rear, but it wasn't as bad as I thought, was intimidating doing everything by feel.

When removing the rear spark plugs, remove the 10 mm bolt first from the coil. That way you can pull out the coil a little bit to give you more slack in order for you to push down on the tab to release the connector. Much better.

Awesome.. super helpful. I had a spark plugs socket with rubber insert. If you have one, take the insert out and use magnet. Mine came off on the new spark plug and didn't notice. I then put coil on, well tried. It wouldn't seat flush. That's when I realized what happened. What a nightmare trying to get that rubber insert out

If the #2 & #3 are fouled you may have an oil leak from the piston rings. Its a known Honda problem. Check for the class action lawsuit settlement. Do your research and get a VCM Muzzler to prevent further serious maintenance problems.

Great video but one thing. Never put antiseize in the threads. It will cause you to over torque the spark plugs and since the heads are aluminum they can easily be damaged.

Great video, thanks so much! I was able to get all the plugs out and just wrapping up. How much is 16 lb ft of torque by feel? When you're installing the plug on the front side, it doesn't even look like you used the socket wrench, that can't be right, is it? In the rear it looks like you did give it a pretty good tighten with the socket wrench. Any insight to feel greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I would suggest getting a torque wrench and torque another bolt on the side to get a feel for it. It's not much honestly, however I tighten in the video, that's it.

You can do it with a swivel but I don't recommend them because they are weak.
