I once killed an NPC because I thought he was trying to break into someone’s house. Turns out he had lost his key and was trying to pry it open. I decided to hide the body and run away. It had never been found until we went back to the town and found the body. The party reported the body while I just stood there whistling with my hands behind my back. I never got caught, so that’s a win to me.

A party mate of mine in an old campaign would spout idiocy at all times and would never shut up. My character(a dragonborn rogue) got sick of this and tried to wrap up his mouth with my tail. Rolled a nat 1 and proceeded to have a muscle spasm in my tail, which shot out and slapped the old lady whom we had just finished a quest for in the face so hard that it broke her neck. Good times.

It does to be honest, because the DM shouldn't say "there's no one there", especially if the player had did everything that could allow them to discover if anyone was inside. If the door was unlocked, then why not go inside and do a search to make sure it was empty. It wouldn't be possible for women and children to hide in there without being noticed if searched by intelligent life.

From my AD&D Campaign where I was a Half-Elf Rogue; BBEG invites us to his Banquet/Masquerade Gala Event. The party was given instructions to pick up masks and suits to wear to the event and specifically told "No magic Items or Weapons allowed". The only reason we considered going to the event was for the mcguffin. I wasn't having any of that because it was all obviously a trap, so I staked out one of his butlers for 2 weeks and took butler training at the local butler school (convenient, amiright?) so I could impersonate him during the masquerade. Even hired a Half-Elf that looked enough like me to hang out with the team while I did my mission so the BBEG wouldn't think I was missing, for good measure. With all my preparations made and the night of the event, I seduced the butler into the broom closet, knocked him out and stole his attire. That night all my stealth/deception rolls were off the charts, never rolled below an 18, I acquired the item while my team+Half-Elf hireling stayed within eye sight of the BBEG. Before I could make my escape guards surrounded me. I saw the Butler I knocked out standing with them. I was taken to court and charged with stalking/theft/impersonating a butler/ and a hate crime for "beating up" a member of the LGBT community

I only started playing DND but the worst thing my party has done is nearly kill a child since our Dragonborn accidentally killed a bandit we were going to interview by slapping him so hard his neck snapped. The Dragonborn got mad and ripped the arms and head off and then he threw the body into an abandoned mansion from 60ft away the head landed and exploded in front of a child and the arms fell on the child’s head and nearly kills him knocking him unconscious until I saved him with one of my health potions and we managed to convince the kid he got hit by a random rock on the head. TLDR we accidentally murdered a man and nearly murdered a child. Ah I love dnd

I'm 1 of 3 players in Storm Kings Thunder campaign. We're in the first session and we have to cross a bridge with a massive hole in it so everyone had their own way of getting over the gap. Echo Knight yeeted the Halfling Rogue over the hole and then swapped places with his Echo. I'm the party's Half-Ork Cleric with heavy Armor. My plan was to use a horse from one of the stables, and use the horse to jump the gap but botched the roll so last ditch effort basically Cleric notices that he won't make it so he Yoshi sacrifice jumps off the horse to make the jump and proceeds to watch the horse plummet to its death.

When my Inquisitor 1st got introduced in our pathfinder game, she was on a church n state ordered mission to find the source of a zombie plague n possibly a cure. So when the party is flying in their airship n see a similarly size airship chasing a tiny airship, they decide to act like heroes n ask questions later. They ram our ship n jump down on the deck where they immediately start cutting people down for having the nerve to draw swords to defend themselves, n 1 player bifurcated the captain (who the DM informed me after the death that he had been my lover for some time during my travels. He loved to add shit retroactively like that. Douche move but I rolled with the punches n worked that trauma into great character development). Then the party stole everything from our ship. With my crazy high speech skills I got the party to take me with them but not understanding how I could get over wut they did (I had a mission to finish n now I was gonna make them help me) they locked me up in a room for the 1st month or so before my sincerity started getting taken seriously. So to sum up; while trying to save the lil guy in an airship fight they knew nothing about, they impeded an official investigation n murdered multiple people, then went full pirate by stealing the loot n kidnapping a church officer.

In a game I was running, the party decided they needed a distraction to break into an office to look for evidence. One of the players decided starting a fire in a storehouse a couple of blocks away would be a good idea. They never bothered to check the contents before starting the fire... it turned out a crime syndicate were storing several tons of gunpowder in that storehouse...

Lesson from the Oxbornventure: be careful when dealing with Dark magic relics. So in one show, they find a village in dis-repair. The villagers approach them on retreaving a legendary relic from the village's famous builder's tomb which would help fix the village. The relic turned out to be an oversized hammer (good for melee) that's enchanted with Necromancy. Said Hammer when wielded will summon the 50 skeleton crew who served the builder, who are required to follow the requests of whomever possess the hammer. The catch which took the adventurers time to catch was that due to the nature of their creation, they're "cursed" to follow vague instructions with unforseen consequences. When repairing the town hall, the skeletons used the stones from the Orphanage to do it. At that point, they sort of caught on and after getting stones from a quarry they set to rebuild the Orphanage (at first giving the correct and careful instructions, but the DM prompt them again on the orders to get one vague reconfirmed). The results is that the Orphanage got rebuilt, with the morter being the orphans themselves. The crew was horrified, especially when they asked the Skeletons to remove the orphans from the brickwork (which the skeletons did because black magic is a hack). After this event, the Bard took up a bit of Necromancy out of the horrors of allowing this skeleton crew to kill so many children as a way to make amends (like believing he could bring them back or something). Since then, they have usdd the crew to help pilot the Rogue Pirate's ship, and had recently added a flaming skull to the crew after a weird incident of saving the dragonborn paladin from certain death when trying to survive a night in a haunted mansion which the crew learned during the mission was owned and haunted by the Pirate's ancestor

I am the DM for this campaign, it is currently ongoing, but the story is part of a side story. The Character in question was in a situation where the local mages guild was getting robbed by some changelings which had a large amount of spell scrolls. The character had a screwed up wish spell that did the opposite of whatever he wished for. After breaking a hole into the building to ambush a few of the thieves, he was forced to use the wish scroll to prevent the thieves from escaping and accidentally killed the entire race...oops.

I'm the cause of getting my entire party thrown in jail. We had just taken a quest from a job board to go to another town and stop a group of bandits from the protection racket they with inflicting on the village. It was me, an dragonborn sorcerer who was chaotic good, my friends, who were playing as aGoliath barbarian, a high elf mage, and a human monk. As we entered the town, we went to see the sheriff. We notice every body was running away from us, which was odd. In the middle of town we were surrounded my the sheriff and his men. The sheriff comes up to us holding a wanted poster. It was for the head of the bandits, which suspiciously looked like my friend's character, the barbarian. We were asked if he was the self-proclaimed Bandit King. Everybody was starting to deny it, but seeing an opportunity to screw with my friend, i look him dead in the eye, smile, and say loudly "All hail the Bandit King!" My DM just looks at me, like wtf, shakes his head, and describes the scene as our characters are tackled, and thrown into jail. My character had to have a muzzle put on him. The actual Bandit King wasn't even a goliath, but a dwarf in a custom!

5e: Party was in the midst of a war for control of Waterdeep with two different criminal factions. Our tavern became a hot spot for late night attacks while we were sleeping. I'm a relatively new player and am not great at theater of the mind (it's really easy for me to forget what's happening beyond the edges of our combat map). My already hot headed draconic sorcerer, who's just had to rescue his mother from being kidnapped, again, wakes up to yet another ambush at our tavern. During the fight (me forgetting what's outside our tabletop map) my sorcerer throws a lightning bolt to hit 3 or 4 enemies in one shot. Feeling pretty good about it too, until the DM reminded me we were in a crowded city. Lightning bolt hit a house, burned it down, and killed two children and their dad. Mom survived. Fortunately with the chaos in the city, and our party installing our rouge, a former noble, as the leader of one of the vacant noble houses, and leader of the city watch, he's just getting a life sentence of service, and not death.

I was the DM of this story, this was the player's first campaign, there was, a tiefling rogue, a warforged warlock, and a dragonborn fighter. Note that the lowest down on the alignment scale qas the warforged (lawful neutral). At the start of the session, i give the players a description of the town they are in, and the rogue says: "i want to uproot the crops in the nearby farm!" I'm thinking (oh no, this is going to end badly). The rogue tries to uproot a crop, and fails. The warforged then successfully uproots a crop, and the owner of the farm, a 60 or so woman notices that the players are stealing her crops, so she walks outside and attempts to hit the warforged with her shovel, she misses, and the players retaliate, taking 3 rounds to nock her unconscious, the rogue being a rogue, enters the woman's house and steals 13 silver pieces from her house. The players then go to the inn and spend the silver pieces to get rooms for the night. The next morning the players walk outside and see the same old lady talking to some town guards, she then notices the players and yells at the guards: "THAT'S THEM, THEY'RE THE ONES WHO STOLE MY MONEY!", the two guards quickly turned towards the players and precided to attempt to apprehend them, and promptly failed, more gaurds were called and the players were imprisoned. The players later escaped and reclaimed their stuff, and exited the holding cells. The players were then noticed again by rhe battalion of guards and are told to stand down, the players, however do no such thing, and try to escape, and suprisingly, they did, two of the players were promptly killed by unrelated reasons. This all happened in ONE session.

Our party consists of me a dragon born cleric, a dragon born barbarian , a tefling roge, and a wood elf ranger. and surprisingly we passed most of our saving throws against Krampus. But we still had two hunters stuck in traps then I remembered that I had a potion of flight I think you know what happens next. The plan was to teleport 5 gnomes to the tavern with a special magic item the tavern owner gave us. Was supposed to be a harmless prank, but turns out the gnomes didn’t like that. They attacked us, they summoned a golem, I summoned a Chuul with another magic item I had, our fighter made the 5 story building collapse and knock over another 5 story building. Many felonies were committed and we somehow got away without anyone noticing

One of my players thought a shop keeper had cursed her and pushed him down a flight of stairs. She had been cursed by another customer in the shop and the shop keeper was just an innocent commoner. He was killed by the fall down the stairs. Also, they accidentally caused a colony of myconids to begin a racial cleansing that resulted in the complete extermination of almost all vegepygmies on the continent.

I unintentionally committed mass murder and sank an entire maximum security prison into a desert while possessed by my patron! I am the second person in my party to commit mass murder whilst possessed! Mine probably isn’t as well known that it was me (or someone in my body) though because uh... well, dead men tell no tales.

Uptite merchant that hated magic was trying to sell a loaded die to our fighter for 100 gold. He wouldn't let us look at it so I used Command and told him to "Give" so I could inspect the die. Once the spell wore off he started yelling for the guards claiming I was stealing from him. Well I figured if he was gonna try to frame me I might as well actually steal the die. Que a one hour long irl chase through Baldur's Gate. I finally escaped by running into a abandoned house, locking the door, and hiding in a closet.

Once attacked and killed a guy I was certain was peeping on a priestess in her inn room. It turned out to be a bard harper who was sent to spy on an evil priestess of Umberlee, who had plans to raise the water levels enough to wash away the coastal town. Well, she was just grateful enough, seeing the harper with his head bashed in by his own lute to give me a 20 minute head start on getting to higher ground. 😆 So, interfering with an official investigation, murder of a harper, destruction of property in excess of 50000 gp, and fleeing the scene of a crime. 😆 Bonus crime: The death of over 300,000 orcs and over 2000 drows, after WotC decided they were people too!

Playing a Pokémon campaign when I find team rocket in the woods while hunting. They’re loading a truck with the help of their machoke. I said I snipe one with my bow, sharpshooter. Nat twenty and kills him instantly. Other dude doesn’t notice, shoot him for another nat twenty insta kill. At this point the machoke notices and is SUPER sad about the death of his trainer. So the DM made me roleplay the whole scenario complete with the Pokémon trying to attack me and me having to fire a warning shot that didn’t actually deter it. So yeah, I was not ok for a week Irl.

We went to a hidden underground dragon cult temple. There we met a guy in a magic prison cell, who said he hid in here and became stuck when the golem like constructs guarding the temple went crazy and killed everything. We insight checked him, he seemed to be telling the truth. So we eventually reluctantly freed him. Turns out he was an Ancient Red Dragon in humanoid form, which we just set free. And not just any Ancient Red Dragon, but the dragon of legend who is said to have razed the southern lands of the continent, turning about a fith of the whole continent to a desert of ash, and planned to do the same to the entire continent. And we gave him the chance to do excactly that. Yup. We're doing great.

My god, the crimes our party has committed.... I hardly know where to begin. I'll just list it all, there's been so much unintentional and intentional deaths that I can only really give proper context to a few. We killed a wizard conjuring a powerful storm, causing the ritual to grow out of control and wipe out the entire town we were in. We used a secret tunnel from a brothel to get into a bank's lower floors, then when we released an eidolon in a massive statue and had to flee, we led it back through the brothel. Having outrun it, it couldn't find us and instead starting killing everyone in there. Our bank heist also resulted in the bank manager being executed and his brain devoured by mindflayers. Our association with a local thieves guild also got them caught and executed. In our escape, workers at an airship dock had to be killed when they tried to stop us from getting away. My old character tried to steal a scroll to mind control 100,000 drow in a city permanently, but the party tried to stop him. I was forced to put two bags of holding inside each other to escape, but this caused a very powerful magic item that had an eldritch horror trapped within to be freed. For the party to stop it, an arcane reactor was blown up, destroying the entire city and killing the 100,000 innocents recently freed from the scroll. Our cleric learned their god wasn't actually the god of storms, but an evil eldritch being. When he rejected the god and gave up his powers to dedicate himself to the true storm god, a large elven city was destroyed by a tsunami in retribution. At least three public officials have been executed by their government for failing to stop us but surviving our encounter. The biggest one, undoubtedly, was when we needed to infiltrate an embassy. The two nations were at war, and the foreign country's holiday celebrating their soldiers was coming up. What was likely to be a crowd of drunks yelling at the embassy's wall wasn't enough to get us inside, so my smooth-talking changeling decided to push things. I spent a week going around town, organizing a massive protest, stirring up radicals and inviting some political factions using different shapes and my acting talents. By the night of the holiday, the embassy was surrounded for blocks and blocks by much of the city's population, all jeering and shouting at them. The embassy desperately wanted to keep the peace, they tried talking the crowd down, they tried offering food and wine to calm them, they even had the domestic country's own guards around the perimeter. But I climbed on top of a wagon and began rallying and inciting the crowd. Still it would never be enough, and their soldiers wouldn't be provoked into starting anything... except I had a plan. As a warlock with a familiar, the actor feat, and absurdly good charisma skills (expertise and minimum rolls of 10 from eloquence bard), and an eldritch invocation to speak through my own familiar, I could essentially project my voice anywhere and sound like anyone. I spent most of the protest listening carefully to the orders shouted by the guard captain so that I could mimic him. As I reached the climax of my speech, I imitated his voice and give the soldiers on the wall the order to fire upon me. The attack sparked a full-out riot, the gates were broken down, the embassy flooded by angry citizens. Hundreds were killed by the guards and all of their magic, weapons, and beasts, but sheer numbers overwhelmed them. The enraged citizens killed everyone they found inside, including innocent workers I hadn't meant to harm. The world never knew who fired first, and accounts disagree about exactly how the riot was kicked off. By the end, only three people in the embassy were left unaccounted for, two of them would be executed later, the ground was littered with corpses, and the riot organizer who had been shot first (along with all my other personas) vanished without a trace. I was single-handedly responsible for one of the greatest tragedies in our setting's era. And that's before learning that the destruction of the embassy prompted a surprise attack to be launched early by the foreign nation immediately after, killing the city's defenders, destroying much of it with dragons, airships, and fireballs, and leaving the capital of this country under enemy rule. The loss of the capitol forced their armies to make a desperate attack of their own which failed, dooming this country to be absorbed into a larger slave empire. Oh, that city was also my character's home. The whole series of events mortified him and shattered his faith in the god he followed.

Incase no DM has noticed and I have no idea what patent danger this could expose you to, take a look at the Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara: there is a city ruled by the Dragon Emperor. That being so, the Entire city and its inhabitants are considered part of The Emperor's Horde. Has killing dragons become too easy? Check The Chronicles of Elantra (Michelle Sagara) amd Temeraire (Naomi Novik) for some complications for characters, creatures, NPCs and characters species or classes. Personally, I'd love to hear what people do with them.

I how to player play a character known as coin rattle the kenku and the best way to describe how they played the most way how to make a character human. I cannot do it justice explaining but I'll just explain the good stuff. Give me the point of the campaign without the party need to do some reconnaissance the basically prep for a giant battle would that they would have had to re encounter a red shadow dragon. After a lots of persuading the NPC's were eventually able to convince him he would be safe to do Recon, so and he's doing recon using a camera to basically scope the area he sees a small shadowy figure. He follows it and it is another Kenny. After exposition the kenku revealed that he is a part of a organization which is basically supposed to appease their war god by being selfless and by helping people and hopefully the trying to return to their former glory. My Player bring something up in game. What they are doing is inherently selfish. Just because of the pure fact that they know of a way to possibly lift their curse make the curse impossible to remove because their work would end up leading to a selfish desire. He drops this on his new acquaintances and then proceeded to leave. In Universe after that, that kenku had a mental breakdown and ended up spreading the whole word the cause is lost for we are eternally cursed, everyone in that Village goes into a mass panic and Causes Chaos causing destruction to happen around from the panic. Quick reminder the whole point of that Village was to dedicate itself to lifting the curse. Just no one had common sense oh, and when I say that I'm referring to I didn't have common sense. So everyone in that Village died because of a giant fire breaking out in the panic. Later that session the player retired the character because you didn't feel like the character wouldn't reasonably go through all that risks in the upcoming battle, so after a heartfelt scene buy to of my players that was the end of coin rattles adventures with the party, do I do run back ground events of my campaign and he is currently using special shadow Portals 2 basically jumped between planes and do some crime. I am so proud of my players they help make my story and my dm skills so much better. I love my players=)

Let's start from the moment that lead to the crime: a joke. I off handedly once said that my character would eat some of the mystery meat the party was offered in a werewolfes den. From there on out, it kinda became a running joke that my character was a cannibal/ate humanoids. Time passed and she died at somepoint and resurrection effects said she developed sevear alcoholism. After weeks of drinking, getting banned from all local taverns and waking up in many questionable places and situations, she finds herself covered in blood, wearing the local regents crown and vomits up few fingers. Oh what a great night of drinking. She also was executed for the cannibalistic rampage and rest of the party was also sent away from there. TL;DR - accidental alcoholism leads to execution, reason: cannibalism

It was my first campaign only 2nd or 3rd session we were saving a kidnaped family from some bandits I was a super strong half orc paladin and we had freed the two kids and we found the mom in a separate room. I decided I just wanted to break her out and be on our way so I said I’ll just pull apart the collar around her neck and immediately realized how it could go wrong but had committed and had begun rolling and NAT 1. I snapped the poor lady’s neck in front of her two kids they immediately ran screaming all the way back to town telling their father who was the mayor. thankfully we proceeded to save the town from the remaining bandits so they let me live but they hated me and none of us were allowed anywhere near the town ever again. And needless to say my group never let me live that down.

not DnD. We were trying to get into a firm to learn more about it, cant remember why though. The firm was specialised in many techs but the base of their civilisation tech was plasma-based. I had an idea to enter the firm, invent a new tech to impress them so they would let us in. With my buddies we proceeded to invent the "Lacere" (word play on the word laser in french which mean tear). When the protoype tests were conclusive we get an audience with the firm's R&D....As a good scientist i tested my new weapon on all kinds of materials to show its potential. Everything went smoothly until we tested it on Plasma itself...Have you read the Dune Saga? do you know what happens if a laser meets a plasma field?...if so you can imagine what happened. Since the campaign was going on for a while we were kind of demi-gods in the realm we were before arriving on this continent and we got out almost unscathed but the rest....of the continent not so much.
