He shows he's in charge by directing them to start the presentation. Then shows he's in charge by immediately interrupting the presentation to show he 'knows what's going on' by praising the savior and revealing he already has an internal analysis. Then stops the presentation again to unproductively quibble over semantics to show he 'knows what's going on.' Then stops the presentation to show he's in charge by getting someone removed from the meeting. Then stops the meeting to float his own really stupid suggestion that shows he doesn't know what's going on. Meanwhile all he's done is reveal this meeting is pointless, taking far longer than it should, while making an enemy of the most capable people in the room because he didn't bother to learn who he was humiliating and putting the cherry on the top, he shows he's not worth explaining this to. They should really be talking with 'the gals in analysis.' It's a brilliant scene because you learn exactly what kind of asshole he is, and that he's in way over his head.

You're confusing how business was done 50 years ago compared to now. The boomer generation rarely, if ever, gave management positions to people who didn't rise through the ranks and were promoted from within...learning each step of the business as they went. My wife's father started at a railroad company as a mail sorter and worked his way up to Director of Operations. The kid who took over his position when he retired was fresh out of business school and didn't know a damn thing about the business. They kept my father in law on for another 4 years as a consultant. My father started at a telephone company adding phones in people's houses and worked his way to upper management overseeing corporate installations all over the world. Some kid took over his job when he retired. My generation, Gen X, almost unanimously worked for their current positions...starting at the bottom. The new generations are the ones who think they can run a company they know nothing about.
@johnmackenzie3871
@johnmackenzie3871 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHigherVoltage Just who exactly do you think these "kids" taking over the top positions are? The difference between the current reality for millennials/zoomers and boomers, is that boomers had the opportunity to work their way up to the top of management at any company just like your father-in-law did, while this is literally impossible for 99% of young people today. Why? Because those "kids" who are replacing the boomers are family members of management execs and got the position out of nepotism. Basically, boomers are giving away their management positions to their family members and friends over more qualified younger workers who've been working at the company for years. Your lack of self-awareness (speaking about your generation and that of boomers) is really what angers gen Zers and millennials the most, not the lack of opportunity.
@TheHigherVoltage
@TheHigherVoltage Жыл бұрын
@@johnmackenzie3871 "Just who exactly do you think these "kids" taking over the top positions are? " My father in law's job was taken over by some kid fresh out of university. My dad's replacement was the same. It's always been 99% of a generation that doesn't get top jobs. Just how many top jobs do you think their are? And nepotism has always been a thing. Why do you think that's something new? A younger generation's lack of knowledge - while being convinced they know better than experience - is usually what angers older generations...and the majority of the generations entering the workforce now are not only 'know it alls' that think they should be running the show....they have, by and large, a lazy, pathetic work ethic. Not all, but definitely a much higher percentage of "useless shoes" than my generation....and most have no clue about reality. They think they should have the "influencers" lifestyle fresh out of college. I'm going to be the old man here...I graduated high school during the 1980s recession. Moved 1500 miles from home for the first chance I could get at starting a career. Lived in a craphole rooming house for almost 2 years, living off of peanut butter sandwiches, pasta, and every other cheap food I could get. Rode the bus or walked everywhere. I worked 40 hours a week at a day job, had a part time job at a bar during the evenings, and did side jobs on the weekends. 60+ hour work weeks. By the time I finished my apprenticeship, I was enrolled in night school, working towards an electrical engineering degree...and still worked a part time job on the weekends. My late teens, twenties and thirties was almost always at work or doing something to better myself and get further ahead. Kids today? The vast majority live paycheck to paycheck, do almost everything they can to not work more than 40 hours a week - and do the bare minimum while they're there, buy tons of useless crap they don't need, take ubers everywhere, eat takeout like it's the only source of food...and spend more time on their phones either fantasizing about a better life, complaining about their life, or hiding from life in a video game.

I love how fate dictates the tiniest differences in the story line. This scene sets in motion one of the most earth shattering plotlines. Elliot was still undecided on whether or not to frame Colby, but when he saw the way Angela was treated, he decided to switch up the files. If Colby had treated Angela with respect, there's a chance Elliot would have never ruined him... and another meta detail - Tyrell saw exactly what he did. Tyrell keeps going on about he and Elliot come together through sheer fate as though he has some sort of sixth sense. The way he treats Elliot on their first encounter is not the way someone greets someone for the first time (even for someone as eccentric as Tyrell), also the way he knows exactly what Elliot did in that moment... there's no way he could have known that through pure intuition. I think there's a heap of interactions between Elliot and other people which Sam doesn't show to us... it's as if Mr. Robot had briefed Tyrell on the entire plan before on the entire prject off camera before they met in the cubicles. Tyrell spoke to Elliot there as if he already knew him. Sam Esmail hides so many mysteries and clues in his story. It's so densly packed with riddles, the same way hackers communicate through cyphers and meta data. Sam was hacking the entire audience through misdirection and subversive story telling. Every time I re-watch the series I pick up on something completely new... It's a pure work of art.

I appreciate that you like the show, but I saw the twist coming from episode one. The story isn't as layered and mysterious as you think it is. It's given away almost immediately. That kind of sloppy story structure kept me from continuing past the first season. It's a show that tries to be clever, but isn't. I enjoyed the details and technical aspect of hacking, but this is really just a poor man's Fight Club.
@catatafish22
@catatafish22 Жыл бұрын
@@TheOnceandFutureJake I disagree. Fight club is a poor man’s Mr Robot. Mr. Robot expanded on the concept of revolution via destruction of banks… like what do you think happens after they’re blown up, would they not keep digital records? Fight club doesn’t take any of that into consideration. Also, what happens after the entire economic system collapses? It creates a complete vacuum. Again, fight club never even considered any of that… Then what happens to a person who becomes consumed with resent for society and plots revolution? What happens when a revolution fails or if it does more harm than good? Fight club never dealt with any of those obvious questions… all necessary questions if you’re talking about revolution, re-distribution of wealth etc… fight club just ended after the bombing and Tyler supposedly lived happily ever after. That’s boring and completely unbelievable. Also not to mention, he somehow gets rid of his alter ego by shooting himself in the head!? Like wtf even is that... it's just lazy story telling. Fight club started off well, then just veered off into obscurity. Plus fight club is completely in-cohesive. What symbolic connection does fighting (in some weird spiritual kind of way), and building a revolution via underground cult like strategy? It barely makes sense. Maybe the book expanded on it, but they sure didn’t in the movie. Mr Robot’s actually more densely layered than this example. That’s just a tiny sliver of the whole series… if you’d actually seen it you’d know lol

After that I submitted the work and it was rejected out of hand and asked to recheck it. I spent 3 weeks on a KZbin vacation, and submitted the same exact report after. Without the context of the show, because I haven't seen it yet, to break down this scene: there are 3 main actors: Uber boss who understands little but weilds power, Angela, who has the general understanding of relevant issues, including those outside of the tech stuff and Elliott, who is tech expert only. Angela is most capable to deliver comprehensive report but is interupted by at first, impatient boss who, by catching minor unconsequential slip of the word, is convinced of his superiority over Angela and seems determined to undermine her and then by Elliott who gets impatient when Angela tries to explain something from his area of expertise. Impatient uber boss then proceeds to dismiss Angela seemingly for no other reason than to project power and skips entire report to ask/demands to know the only thing he realy cares for, perhaps even knowing it's impossible to answer so suddenly. Elliott just happened to look into it already. In my opinion, what the boss ultimately asks suggests that he takes it personally and has little interest to addres issue systematically to prevent future problems. I don't like that boss. He doesn't listen to people. He doesn't understand a thing, but he notices he could shake Angela while completely ignores Elliott's remark that she acted correctly. I feel sorry for Angela and everybody working under that boss. It's scary, discouraging and frustrating to think this happens in real life too.

Just rewatched this episode. After he stopped the hack on the Evil Corp servers, he redirected the dat file so only he could have access to the rootkit. When he got back to his apartment, he copied the .dat file to a CD which had fsociety's IP on it. He was going to turn them in. The next day is when he goes back to the arcade and talks with Darlene and she asks for access to the rootkit to put Colby's IP in the dat file. He then talks with Mr Robot that doing that would erase all financial debt. He goes home that night and looks into Angela's debt payments. Realizing again that money runs the world, he makes a 2nd CD and edits the dat file, adding Colby's IP. There were 2 options; Add Colby's IP to the dat file to bring down E-Corp or turn in F-society. After Angela's removal from the room, that's why he switched packets. So yes, looks like he would have incriminated himself and his sister, had that not happened.

It's not a woman thing, it's an accuracy thing. I'm a Gen Xer and I have very little patience for anyone who isn't accurate in their information and details. Meanwhile, the latest generations don't care about factual accuracy, or even reality that much. If you 'feel' you're a woman - you can call yourself one. If you're late for an appointment or work - oh well, it's someone else's fault. I almost won - so I deserve a trophy. There's no such thing as truth anymore, it's all 'my truth' and 'your truth'. Don't like a fact? That's ok, it's just fake news.

Throughout the series I've noticed a lot of parallel/similar/identical language being used between characters throughout, which could mean a couple different things or perhaps nothing at all. In episode S01E09 Angela shows up at her lawyers office and is hoping to work there. Her attorney Antara Nayar rejects her and she uses very similar wording to what Terry Colby says when he rejects her in this scene. She tells Angela, "you can't work here" blah blah blah and says, but this is not it, not at this level for what we're trying to do." Colby says, "she's not gonna work out for us, not on this level". I'm probably making too much of it, but this isn't the only instance. In this case it could simply be a reference to Back To the Future with Marty Mcfly receiving repeated rejections. After watching the series numerous times, I'm pretty sure there are parallel realities occurring and at the very least among the other characters there seems to be too different Angelas. . It's clever the way it's shot because many of the timelines appear to be in a linear fashion, but I'm pretty sure the timeline bounces back and forth between two parallel realities. It's super long to break everything down, so I'll leave it at that. Just wondering what others have concluded in reference to this? Angela essentially gets hired on by Price and Terry Colby's people. and then she brings Elliott in, which is essentially what she did during the first timeline, which occurs off camera before the show starts. Then there's parallels between Elliot and Tyrell's hiring and firing dates. I'm just cracking the surface, but I also find it extremely odd that Dom constantly uses the phrase "you gotta be f**king kidding me! and Darlene also loves to use this phrase and btw both used this phrase before either one had an influence on the other (I don't see it as a coincidence either). There's a lot more going on in this show in my opinion that hasn't really been uncovered as of yet.
