Every Asian and Indian guy actor in Hollywood needs to start off paying their dues by embarrassing themselves. Kal Penn (Kumar) talked about all the stereotypical roles he had to audition for early on in his career. Ken Jeong in Hangover also comes to mind. They will get better roles in the future. The other way out of the stereotypical roles is to produce and write your own movies/TV shows, like Fresh Off the Boat, Crazy Rich Asians, and Searching, which were all created by Asian writers.

@blue copper but you're making the assumption that Hollywood is inherently racist. There would be better Asian representation after a film like Crazy Rich Asians because it made a lot of money. Hollywood is a business and since films with Asian leads or actors make more money, there will be more Asian actors in films in positive roles. Besides these things take time.

I guess you don't know what a stereotype is? The problem is 99% of Asian characters in Hollywood get portrayed like him. It's like in the 1960s and earlier when African American actors could only get stereotypical acting roles as subservient uncle toms. This type of character may be fine in moderation, but the stereotype gets old when it gets repeated so many times over and over again.

It's like an extra episode for season 5. Great compilation, thanks!

I am Asian myself and i honestly don't understand the fuss. Jian-Yang's personality is amazing. He is fearless, not taking Erlich's (or anyone) bullshit, and he has free spirit and does whatever he wants (no matter how crazy or fucked up it is), the difference in cultures, the way he looks, how he speaks English sure are stereotypical but they are just parts of the character (plus they are funny). Where can you find such a badass character, he is perfect for the show!! (kinda like Raj in Big Bang Theory, the accents and all culture stereotypes. Still genius and I like both characters)

you lost me at the culture differences lol. yeah Jian-Yang is a hilarious character and it's especially funny as a Chinese, but his inconsistently awful English and strange mannerisms, for a character from HK, not some rural bumf*ck nowhere, is not a great portrayal of Chinese immigrants for the actually low-key racist viewers.

It's "best of," not every moment of Jian-Yang. He had more to do in the show, and it's all hilarious: great writing, great acting.
