One off the most complex mother/daughter relationships in any book series/show I have ever read/seen. The chemistry between Ruth and Dafne is just incredible and I can’t wait for more scenes between them in the future. I think the love Marisa has for Lyra is real but obsessive. I wouldn't say that Asriel loves Lyra less than Coulter, it's just expressed in a different way. Asriel saved Lyra from Marissa's husband he got her to safety. He does his best to distance her from himself and the war he's starting. Marissa thinks she can shield Lyra better keeping Lyra with her and grooming to be loyal to her and not Asriel. She think her own power within the Magistrium will power her daughter. Neither are good parents, both being ruthless in their ambitions, which they put before their child's happiness. They both hurt Lyra terribly. I always felt Asriel was more realistic about about who he was as a man and a parent than Marissa was. He pushes her away and that part of himself away because he recognizes he can't have an affectionate relationship with Lyra and realize his lofty goals.

@@Lifeisshort214 I think Asriel does actions for Lyra and Marisa gives emotional and physical care. But then Marisa also showed she could care for her daughter through actions by scouring the whole of England. I think Marisa and Asriel love Lyra equally and she cares more than him. She got two out of two and he got one out of two. You can't deny that Asriel doesn't care for Lyra in speech, whatever you think of his actions. He reminds me a bit of Stefan from Maleficent, not a good father when he's with her, but will do anything to keep her safe.
