She didn't marry down, he is a voice actor so likely made great money when he wasn't unemployed. But problem is he didn't mature over time. He stayed a kid at heart when she needed a MAN. She got over serious while he didn't get serious at all
@JMac7395

Note, Miranda stated that when dating Stuart he was too serious, too uptight & he didn't want a family. At that time Miranda wanted a family & a spouse that wasn't too serious. Hence why Miranda married Daniel, who is the complete opposite of Stuart. Daniel wanted a family & he was a laid back goof ball. I think once Miranda got her family, the desire for Daniel slowly faded. Resulting with an unhappy marriage.

Robin Williams is my favorite actor and he absolutely nails this role, partially cause he’s been through a divorce. Both him and the actress who played the mom had been divorced and wanted the movie to end how it did, not with the parents getting back together but both being in good terms cause that’s more realistic

I was dumped when my ex was pregnant, as soon as my son was born I went to court for access, the courts pushed for a verbal agreement as she agreed to the parenting plan I drew up. As we walked out of court she said she wasn't going to follow it, so as soon as I got home I filed again. They gave me every other weekend with my son. He's just turned 7, I get on fine with his mum, he's a well rounded young lad, I'm so proud of him and we're in a routine where I take him to school every day, and see him some weekday evenings too. He does say he gets sad because he doesn't see me much but there's not much I can do about that no matter how heart breaking it is to hear. Hope you get to reconnect with your kids.

As I've learned, you survive if you need too, at the time I'd become a dad out the blue, his mum wasn't a bad mum and I'm in the UK so full custody was out of the question. A few years later we got back together (didn't let on to son), didn't last. I'm not bitter, wish things were different but he knows we both love him and that's all that matters and I'm on good terms with his mum. My only gripe is he hasn't got my last name but he is free to change it at 16 if he wants too.

You are spot ON when you picked up on the fact that Robin Williams' character Daniel Hillard is breaking a lot of laws when it comes to custody of the children. MatPat from Film Theory did a video on this. Yes, it's in San Francisco, you're right about that! So, MatPat had to use the laws from that area to figure out how much trouble Daniel would be in. Lots of other stuff he does, which includes assault, and nearly killing Pierce Brosnan's character at the restaurant with that hot cayenne pepper, damaging property by taking off the head ornament of the nice car that Pierce owned, other stuff with that birthday party had to be illegal (especially with that pony!), pretending to be a babysitter (there's other implications in the law about doing that--ahem!) but the biggest counts were the ones where every time he saw his kids inside those three months where he was supposed to be getting a better job and a house that was fit for the kids. In the city and county of San Francisco, California, every single instance of this was considered a SEPERATE INFRACTION! So, not only would he have to pay out the wazoo for all the fines he's racking up, but he's going to be spending upwards of FIFTY YEARS IN PRISON! If he survives all that time in prison, he won't be able to see his kids until they apply for AARP.

K-12 schools (Kindergarten through 12th grade) aren't uncommon in some parts of the US. Most of the schools in the city I live aren't but there's at least one here I know of. Also, fair point about the custody stuff, it sucks sometimes. Hopefully the movie was still enjoyable despite how close to home that stuff hit.

Huh. I wonder where these places are that have these singular K-12 schools. In my part of the US that range is broken up into three separate schools: elementary school / grade school (K-5), middle school / junior high (6-8), and high school (freshman / sophomore / junior / senior). My grade school and junior high buildings were two separate buildings right next to each other but my high school was about a block away from them and it was its own campus of half a dozen or so buildings. Always kinda got the impression that that was the norm, more or less. (Maybe distances between them might vary in other places depending on availability of space when they were built?)
@RedRoseSeptember22
@RedRoseSeptember22 Жыл бұрын
In several states I've seen that they combine the junior and senior high schools in one building, or sometimes it's elementary on one side and junior high on the other, then senior high will be seperate. Interesting how it varies by state. I went to a stand alone junior high at the time so that was interesting lol.

I totally understand where the mom is coming from. There can’t be all fun and games all the time in raising kids and maintaining a household. There has to be some amount of responsibility and accountability. And the vast majority of that burden was left up to the mom, leaving her feeling like the perpetual bad guy within her own family. They didn’t balance each other out well.

The movie still highly rated even today. Though there are a few recent reviews complaining that the movie was offensive. One person said all the characters in the movie were terrible people. Most of the older reviews that didn't like it, just didn't like the fact that it was unrealistic. Which I get but then again the movie is supposed to be funny, not realism. Fun fact a lot of people call this a family film. I wouldn't, I would just call it a depressing movie if you're married and hate the court system when it comes to divorce. To note I don't hate the movie, it's just not one I watch again by choice.

17:00. You're right, and it's a shame. Recent Studies have actually shown, that children with both parents obviously have a better chance of not going to prison. The anomaly in the study, is that parents with only a single father, stay out of prison more than those with a single mother. Using this logic, you must ask yourself:" why are the courts giving the children to the mothers? Especially if they have a better chance of going to prison? "
@adventuresinlaurenland
@adventuresinlaurenland Жыл бұрын
Single mothers have a greater risk of mortality, poor physical and mental health, higher rates of psychological distress, and lower socioeconomic status than single fathers. Single fathers are also treated better by society on many levels because they are seen as going above and beyond while single mothers are expected to take care of everything because they are the mothers.
@Y_.R
@Y_.R Жыл бұрын
The research you’ve seen is entirely correlational (i.e., for obvious reasons, no one has experimentally taken babies at birth and randomly assigned them to be raised by an single mother or single father to see what would happen). So we have no idea why it exists. Example: As ice cream sales increase, so to rape rates. So should we ban ice cream? The answer is that rape rates increase in the warmer months, as do ice cream sales. That example may seem ridiculous because no one would believe one causes the other. So here’s another example: the number of people accessing unemployment benefits is correlated with unemployment rates. Obviously, people access unemployment benefits when they lose their jobs. So, increases in unemployment rates will mean increases in the number of people getting unemployment benefits. However, for years many people have argued that this correlation proves that giving people unemployment benefits causes more people to “decide not to work.” In fact, it’s still a common argument made today. No matter what your politics may be on whether we should give people unemployment benefits, the data absolutely does not prove that unemployment benefits cause unemployment. And, as an aside, you can get unemployment benefits if you’re out of a job through no fault of your own (e.g., getting laid off because the company is downsizing). But, generally, you can’t get unemployment benefits if you quit your job and you can’t get them if you’re fired because of misconduct. So if you “decide not to work” and want to scam the system, my advice is to get a business degree, learn to read the stock market, and try to predict which businesses are likely to get into financial trouble in the next couple of years and get a job there.

New to the chanel, loved the reaction. But I have to admit, the criticism was a little overbearing. When watching a comedy, of course, everything's not go be logical. The goal is to make people laugh, so sometimes things don't always make sense. But it's humor, so it comes with the territory. Sometimes it's good just to laugh and keep it moving as opposed to being stuck and letting negativity set in. Anyway great reaction. Hope to see more.... positivity.

To your question about why the father wasn’t awarded alimony. That is usually only given to the parent that was the “stay at home” parent. Their role/way to provide in the marriage was to be at home. Sacrificing additional education and time in the work force to maintain a wage that may have been available if not for spending that time child rearing. So the alimony can help to keep the same standard or lifestyle that the children are use to. (Not a lawyer but that’s a very rough summary from how I understand it). So bc both of the parents in this movie had been working primarily through the marriage he isn’t entitled to the alimony. Even if one of the parents cant hold down a job that doesn’t permit them to get alimony.

Yess, as one of those kids it sucks. My father and I have a strained relationship and it's a hundred percent to do with the poison my mother would speak about him to us, infront of him and behind his back. My sister, who was 10 when they divorced, refuses to see him but my brother and I are a little more open to it because I was sixteen and he was thirteen when they divorced. I just don't trust either of my parents because it was a messy divorce and they both used the kids against the other. However my father never said a word against her even though my mother was awful to him (cheating for their entire marriage and such) and she said terrible things about him my entire life. Even if I wanted a relationship with him, it's extremely difficult after what she did.

The mom was busy working and managing all of the responsibilities. That's not a reason to lower her as a mother. But I completely agree he should have been able to be the afternoon sitter long before Mrs. Doubtfire. But then, we wouldn't have a movie. This was a great movie in the early 90s, and it is both great and sad it's still painfully relevant today. Also, in the US, alimony isn't a thing unless the marriage lasted something like 15+ years. My aunt had a long time marriage end and that's how it was explained to her. I'm sorry for your situation - sometimes watching stuff like this is cathartic. For me, it's Riding in Cars with Boys (with Drew Barrymore).

There are few schools that offer Pre-K to 12th grade. My sister who's in 9th goes to one such school with my cousin who's in Pre-K.

These days he definitely would have been considered the SAHD and he would have gotten at least half custody. Especially in California.

I was in a private school with preK to 12. So, all those ages could be in the same school. Different buildings, but same school.

You got a great radio/announcer voice. Loved the video! Completely unrelated. I would recommend to react to "Willy's Wonderland" Staring Nicholas Cage. Somehow he manages to be the protagonist that never says a word during the whole movie and it works so well.

Went to catholic school for 9 years and all my siblings went to same school on same location. It was kindergarten through 8th grade. When youngest of us my sister was in K, I was in 2nd grade, my brother 4th grade, my sister 6th grade, my eldest sister 8th grade. We all walked to school together. It was more funny and strange when I found out how this wasn't the norm. And it was avg school size 540ish students in total so wasn't a small town thing.

Your commentary on this movie is hilarious lol. This movie is also a classic. He wasn't a true man child. He had to play with his kids and did voice acting. To be honest, we don't know what he did before or how their marriage was in life. In the moment however, he crossed alot of lines and even though his kids knew he was Doubtfire, you are right, he did cross lines but it also showed his loyalty to his kids that he was willing to go to jail for this due to an unjust system and a women having anger towards him because the kids have more fun with him than her. Like when she said that he always dwarves her decision that make her look like she is out of touch. I think that would drive anyone mad. Then he does this wild ass shit just to be there. What if his kids did the opposite and was like Wtf dad and still call the police. He also almost killed someone and impersonated an old lady with a fake name so you can also at that to the list. In the end, she did feel bad for the new ruling. I don't think anyone who would go back to the courts and fix it so he can come back would feel completely angry at him nor think he was a bad person. She was shocked but she even in the courts had that look like this doesn't feel good or right. I mean what he did was awful but is this the right decision to make with the kids? Who love the hell out of him? In real life however, he would have shocked the kids or the kids would have found out and called the actual police and then mom. The wife would have pressed more charges since this was an invasion of her privacy and by the courts he shouldn't be there. He would have caught multiple charges and would have gone to jail. Maybe with probation. They would have gave him therapy and she would have it all. Same theme but he would have been in a bad place. The kids would have been feeling shitty but they would laugh about it later in life when they meet him again. The wife might still feel jaded but probably come around. Somewhat friends due to the circumstances

My mother tried to have me tested mentally for a girl to live with my father. At 12, she started cutting the phone off working from the phone company so I couldn’t contact even my grandmother on that side unless she was present. So in this case checking things out might of been good. But that would still look bad. No phone till I waited for her to call out and hit redial. And not an argument I understand but some ppl shouldn’t get the kid

She made far more then decent money and took what my dad had out of the bank so he had no chance.enough that I couldn’t get grants for college but demanded child support but yet could not speak to my father. Legal system isn’t good sadly. Sry the movie affected ya badly tho I understand.

Ok as a child of divorced parents with a mother who really played people, including us, to not talk to our father despite her being an alcoholic and such… Let me fill you in on some history. Once upon a time if a woman left an abusive husband he automatically got everything. Including the children. That wasn’t that long ago. I will always stand up for good fathers but I also know a mother who’s abusive husband prevents and controls her actions still through her child. It’s gone the whole other way than how it used to be but take it as a lesson. Let’s not let any person be separated from their children needlessly again. If a good, loving parent is denied their children everyone loses. Trust me. I know too well. Same goes for children being stuck with the wrong person too and there being no way to legally help them. It’s so horrible. Also I’m so sorry for what you’ve gone through. I’m sure my Dad would totally tell you he understands completely. If it’s any consolation I now don’t talk to my mother and see my Dad when I can.

Funny movie with a horrific message. Always stalk your ex-wife and use your kids as tools to do it. She'll finally realize that she's been wrong about what she thought she wanted and really needs you and she'll come back to you.

Oh this is absolutely one of those movies that could never be made today, too many spineless egos would whine about being offended, despite it showcasing some frustratingly unbalanced truths of society that have been perpetuated for the better part of a century. But my two cents on which parent is right in the film? Yeah I'd say neither was in the right for exactly what you said at the start of the film, however by the end of the movie I'd have to say he was. When she finally pointed out how bad their family relationship was, he was willing to change but she wasn't, then throughout the story we see him put his money where his mouth is; but all she did was handwave some paperwork, after publicly humiliating him again. But hey, at least it made you laugh!
