By far the BEST version of POTO EVER!!! Tarja and Marko just killed it! WELL ALRIGHT!!!!!! When I first seen this video, I didn’t even realize it was Marko, until they showed his face! It blew my freaking mind!!! And Tarja just brought it home!!! Too bad this was her last show with Nightwish. End of an era…sad, but I’m glad they have Floor now, and they have the best group on the planet IMHO. Tarja’s POTO is still my favorite! Sleeping sun as well. She’s absolutely amazing. That's THE only Siren, Tarja Turunen❤ This was Fall, Helsinki, Finland 2005, "End of an Era" Tour concert. Beautiful venue. I was 18 then, I'm now 37. This was the last time we heard the Siren, the Viking, the Pirate, the Vampire & the Zombie all perform together. I'll never forget it... Thanks for sporting this reaction video!!! The last note is actually E6. Some think it`s a D6 because of the darker tone she`s singing in, but it`s an E6, just like in the original play. She is a classically trained lyrical soprano. You can hear her brighter tone in Mein Herr Marquis from her Beauty & the Beat tour with Mike Terrana. She also sung with much brighter tone if you listen to Kuolema tekee taiteilijan from the same end of an era concert. Tarja is the reason there is band called Nightwish. What made them special to me was the combination between her voice and the symphonic metal. Her voice made them stand out from the rest, and she is one of the founders of the band. But totally respect Floor, she is an amazing vocalist.

I gotta say, the Phantom of the Opera is my favourite musical from when I was a small child. Marco's voice as the Phantom fits the character WAY more than the beautiful clean singing in the regular show. The phantom is gritty, and deformed, and his entire life has been shaped by trauma. Those metal vocals fit so much better, because it is still musically masterful, but fits the characters troubled upbringings.

First, Thank you, Mrs. Heretic. Your reaction to this made me hit that subscribe button. I've commented a lot on David's videos, but yours is the one that got me. Well done! Second, Tarja is hitting an Eb6 at the end. On the sheet is is listed as an E6, but in this video, Nightwish tuned their instruments down 1/2 step, but it doesn't take away anything that was happening here. David can play it for you: Dave, 1st string, 23rd fret. Third, oh, Marko. After seeing Mrs. Heretic's other Nightwish reactions, I knew she had never heard Marko sing, and was just waiting for that reaction, and holy cheeseballs was it worth it! It should be worth her knowing that this wasn't a one off, as Nightwish covered this for their 2002 album Century Child, and that this is Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite version of the song. In the musical, Erik (the Phantom) is more very brooding in his singing, as a tortured soul. Tuomas and Marko knew that the Phantom is responsible for someone dying in the theater, so they wanted him to be more sinister, and played it up that way. That's why ALW loves this version. David, Take her through The Islander, I Want My Tears Back, and Romanticide. And thank whatever deity you believe in that Marko is married, otherwise you may have just lost Mrs. Heretic! :D

One more thing. If she would like to see more of Tarja, have a look at more clips from this very show, which was called End of an Era. I don't know if both of you know, but Ghost Love Score is a song originally performed by Tarja, which was on the last album she recorded with the band. She's played that live, so having a 1:1 comparison (wrong choice of word) would be something interesting for her to see. Also, it is known that for some of Nightwish's older work, Floor takes those songs and while keeping true to the original (whether sung by Tarja or Anette), she makes them her own. With that in mind, I'd also think if you have the time, react to Nemo, also from End of an Era. that may get you ready for the show without compromising too much of the setlist.

Tarja's voice is synonymous with Nightwish to me. I do know another very cool version of this song that I think you and the missus will dig. It's by LIV MOON, with AKANE LIV singing (real name Akane Okamoto). I recently got to watch the whole End of an Era concert and it is amazing. Floor is amazing and versatile and the newer Nightwish songs are awesome, but I still really love the "original" symphonic metal Nightwish with Tarja, her voice contrasts and complements the metal band so well. Loved her face when Marko came in 🤣 About the Tarja/Floor discussion: in my opinion, they are two world class singers with their own style and I wouldn't compare them. As an old school Nightwish fan, Tarja will always have a special place in my heart and her voice combined with the band made Nightwish who they are. When Floor took over, she evoled the sound of Nightwish, because she is more versatail and can sing literally in every style. If Mrs. Heretic is courious about Tarja, I suggest you to check out the songs "The Siren" (very underrated!) or "Walking in the air" from the same show (End of an era/2005). Greetings from Germany

Love your guys' reactions. Such a great couple. Marko steals the show in this performance for me. While Floor's version with Henk Poort is not with Nightwish they do use a version of this arrangement. Floor's ability to convey emotion really shines through and her storytelling, acting, and interaction with Henk are just off the chart. Mrs. Heretic needs to see that version from Beste Zangers as well. It will blow her away as well.

I absolutely love the way Marko sings the Phantom's part in this song. And Tarja kills this song as well. Definitely one of my favorite live songs of theirs, and I did get to hear them do this live with Tarja when I saw them back in 2004. Also yes, good for not getting into the debate. I've been a Nightwish fan since 2002. I love both Tarja and Floor, and they bring different things to the table. Comparing them and saying one is better than the other is stupid because they both are extremely talented and amazing. Considering Mrs. Heretic likes musicals, I think she'd be very interested in hearing Floor doing a cover of Dangerous Game from Jekyll & Hyde with a fellow Dutch singer, Henk Poort (who also sang Phantom of the Opera with her in the show David mentioned). Dangerous Game is one of my favorite songs from musicals and Floor and Henk just KILL it.

Tarja was an extraordinary talent, and I miss her presence. Saying that everyone says 'she was fired' like it was harsh. Tarja was over Nightwish. Tarja's attitude and her values became more and more different from Toumas and Marko. In the last few months she cut herself off from the rest of the group. I think there is a specific quote from her that made her position clear: 'I don't need this band for my career anymore.' So yes she's missed but with an attitude like that things could go only one way. On the bright side, Floor is the ne plus ultra of a great fit for the band.

Also ‘Rest Calm’ for an amazing Marko & Anette performance. ‘Beauty & the Beast’ live from From Wishes to Eternity has Tarja with a guest male vocalist (this was pre-Marko) named Tony Krakko. Much like how she and Marko really assume their roles as Christine and the Phantom, she and Tony really take on the roles of Belle and the Beast on stage. It’s really interesting and fun to see.

Do the song they sang together live, Over the Hills and Far Away (Nightwish used to do a cover of this) One classic with Tarja is The Pharaoh Sails to Orion (there's a live version of 2000 or 2001 that's great), besides that famous Gethsemane and Sacrament of Wilderness video of 1999 (it was a TV show in Finland, I guess)

Don’t know if you are a fan of Polyphia, but if you have not heard of the song or the band, you should really check out their newest song Playing God. It’s fusion with jazz elements along with a little flamenco(not actually a flamenco guitar, but Ibenez with nylon strings)flavor for this song. The talent is very much top tier. It’s a vibe for sure, it’s so crisp and clean. I might be wrong, but I think this would be right up your alley. If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on a strike.

If I'm not wrong, Tarja was fired after this concert at the end of the tour. The concert, which was also released on DVD, was the last for Tarja (after 9 years). The atmosphere in the band was not good anymore.
